This thread will contain Animal sacrifice and blood anointing. Any and all who do not wish to participate should not feel obligated to do so. This thread is open to all, so feel free to drop in, and get blessed, or simply watch whats going on.

The Bonfire was well underway, and not far from a second fire had started. A pyre of wood had been stacked some 8 feet high, and a large blue flame sat at its crown. Around the pyre, large stones had been crudely rolled into place creating a ring and walkway up to the flames. Finally at the base of the pyre sat a frame with rope and under it a large wooden trough.

Aylin sat within the large stone circle, beside her Honua sat as well. Both girls seemed skittish to the events that were about to get underway. In Aylin's arms sat Lilly, half asleep but still occasionally looking around. Aylin was unsure of what to expect, while Honua knew full well what was going on here tonight. Not far off Narraine was perched. She stayed close to the pyre, keeping the flames burning as brightly as she could. All three were silent as they awaited Corsalyn and the others.

Corsalyn had made the decision that a sacrifice was needed tonight. The things Honua had told her about the state of their realm concerned her, and she felt that asking Ishtar for her blessing was important. With that in mind, Narraine had gotten all the necessary paperwork handled so that the sacrifice could be considered legal in the eyes of the law. An animal, in this case, a goat, was purchased and registered for the intended purposes.

Before long Cor appeared from the forest, leading the animal along beside her. It did not look distressed or harmed in any way. She led it along the walkway until they reached the frame. There she and the animal stood as if waiting for something. All of the sisters were silent now, watching either the goat or the fire. It created a tension, but strangely one that seemed to carry with it, excitement.

After a few silent moments, Cor spoke.

"I have heard of the troubles back home. Our world falls into turmoil, and the dangers we fought against once again rise up to destroy what was built. We can't go back there. We cant bring balance to the light, we cant protect our sisters. It's times like these that we must turn to our faith. Faith in our sister's abilities, faith in our people, and faith in our goddess. That is why we are here. To offer up a sacrifice to Ishtar and receive her blessing. To ask that she keep our sisters as we once did."

She smiled reassuringly to her sisters and turning to look at anyone else who had gathered to see what was going on.

"Ishtar, I don't know if you can hear us. But tonight, we offer this sacrifice to you. So that you will look upon us with favor and look after our people...."

Without another word, Corsalyn produced a small knife from within her skirt, and swiftly Slit the goat's throat. Narraine slithered over to help her and the pair tied the animal up in the frame, allowing it to bleed into the trough underneath it. The animal died quickly with little suffering.

Corsalyn smiled and nodded to all of her sisters, and gestured for them to line up. As they did she dipped her finger into the blood and painted several thick lines on her face and body. To each sister she put a single finger on their foreheads, tracing a line of blood down their face, stopping at their chin. "May she watch over you, and carry you from torment." She repeated to each sister as she anointed them in the same fashion.

It was at this point that she addressed the rest of the spectators. "If anyone else would want the blessing of Ishtar, step forward and don't be afraid."

Iesha lingered close to Narraine, watching as she fanned the great blue blaze. In some ways Iesha was nervous, being a part of ritual that she was never partook in before yet part of her looked forward to it. The who thing reminded her of when her own family celebrated Eid al-Adha together as family. Granted they were not particularly religious but it was an important local custom that her family recognized. While they didn't construct large bonfires, the sacrifice of the goat was that the two rituals shared in common so in some ways... it was like she celebrating Eid with her new... family of sorts.

As the Arore sisters lined, each taking in their anointment, Iesha watched with great interest. She studied how Miss Corsalyn traced a steak of blood from forehead to chin on each of her sisters. As she watched Narraine, she thought back to her ealier conversation about the nature of the ritual. While she wanted to be a part of it, she wasn't sure about having blood on her face and told Miss Narraine that she will make up her mind after Narraine goes first. Now that Narraine went through it... now came the time to decide.

While she intially thought to forgo the anointment, seeing Narraine and the rest of sisters take part inspired her join in and when Corsaylin asked the small gathering of onlookers she slithered up. Iesha felt a little uncomfortable with the eyes being on her but... she just tried to force it in the back of her head. Instead she just stared ahead at Corsaylin, putting on a brave face for her aunt. Iesha knows that she didn't have but... these lamias are the closest she has to a family now and she wanted to be more of part of their world.

As she looks up to the towering figure of Corsaylin staring down, she puts on meek smile. Taking in breath, she speaks to the older lamia.

"U-u-uummm... m-may I have... h-have the b-blessings of I-ishtar Misssss Corsalyn?" asked Iesha, holding her hands tightly together as stares up to Corsalyn, waiting for her to give her the offered blessing.

Iesha had been the first one to approach. It took Corsalyn a moment to respond as she had not been expecting the young Lamia to be so forward, yet here she was. It was certainly something to be proud of, especially since as Corsalyn knew, this was her first sacrifice to Ishtar.

"Of course little one. May she watch over you and keep you from torment" As Corsalyn spoke she did as she did with the other sisters, placing a blood-tipped finger on Iesha's forehead and traced a single line down the center of her face to her chin. "And may she watch over you as long as you live." Corsalyn added with a bigger smile.

Narraine had turned in time to watch Iesha approach Corsalyn, and it had made her very proud. She knew about the young Lamia's apprehensions and watching her go out on her own like this was very good. She couldn't help but give Aylin a nudge and whisper "That's my girl."

When COrsalyn was done Narraine slipped up and hugged Iesha tightly. "Thank you for participating. It means a lot to me."

As the Arore sisters performed their rituals and received their blessings, Chloe felt a strange mix of nostalgia and envy. She was raised as a good Christian boy, who paid attention in Sunday school and behaved himself during the church services, who knew that Jesus loved him and God cared about him too, and that praying was connecting him to something bigger that it was good to be a part of. A part of her missed that feeling, and she saw something like it in the Arores.

But she wasn't here to reflect on her journey to godlessness. She was here for Corsalyn and her sisters. She wanted to participate - but the whole getting-blood-smeared-on-her-face thing was a little off putting. And this was some kind of blessing, which felt wrong to Chloe, because she had never done anything for Ishtar herself, so was it really her place to go around taking Ishtar's blessings?

Chloe was probably overthinking it. Corsalyn would just be happy to see her participate, she was sure. So Chloe stepped forward after Iesha received the blessing. She flashed Corsalyn a nervous smile.

She resolved to find a good time to ask when she could wash the damn blood off her face. Until then, few would be able to tell it bothered her.

Iesha closed her eyes tightly, her body stiffens as Corsalyn extended her finger drew a single red line down the center of her face. Once she felt Corsalyn's finger flicking off from her chin, she slowly opened and she relaxes. For what seemed to be a mundane ritual, Iesha could almost swear that she felt something... some warm and light. Like some heavy burden released... thought she was probably just imagining it. Nevertheless, she does feel as if though she was blessed.

She beams a wide smile to Corsalyn before giving her a small bow and slithers off to reunited with Narraine. Iesha continues to wear a proud smile to her adoptive mother as she approaches. As Narraine embraced her with a hug, Iesha accepted and hugged her tightly in turn.

"I-I know... I-it m-means a lot to m-me too... y-you mean a a lot t-to me." cooed Iesha as she rests her head on Narraine's belly. After several moments being lost in loving embracing, Iesha looked up to Narraine and asks "U-umm... d-do you t-think I g-go sssee my f-friends b-b-before the b-bonfire is over?"
