Carmin had never actually read one but it turned out that he might’ve known what Sumi was talking about after all. “Oh, you mean the short thick comic books that seem to start backwards? I think I might’ve seen a few of those in the community centre book shelf.”

Carmin wasn’t exactly sure what it took to become a mangaka, but Sumi was only fifteen and already pretty skilled and passionate with art so he saw the guy’s dream as pretty realistic.

"Yeah, just like those! My bro recently took the one-shot manga I made to a convention, about 20 prints of a short 12 pages one, sold out within the hour. A few of his fans asked even if it was done by him!", Sumi explained with sheer joy.

As Sumi spoke, Carmin actually felt happy for him rather than just jealous. When he'd first met Sumi, he wasn't honestly to fond of the guy. But somewhere along their conversation that must've changed somehow.

Carmin actually even cracked a very slight smile at Sumi when he got excited. "Good for you. From the sounds of it, you just might reach that goal of yours."

"Yup, that's what I've been aspiring for years. But how about you, Carmin? What did you set your eyes on?", given Sumi's friendly attitude towards the plant boy, chances are he would believe and hope for the best of his friend's dreams as well, even if they were to be absurd or not.

"Uh." Carmin hadn't put much thought into his future and wasn't sure how to respond to that. He'd been away for so long and certainly didn't think he was gonna be anything more than a witch's servant in all his life during that time. After being freed, he'd been focusing on changing himself back to normal rather than considering his future on the island. People usually chose their careers based on things they were interested in or things they were good at, and lately he didn't have a whole lot of things that fell into either of those categories. He thought it over for a minute, but he ultimately just gave up.

"I don't know, I haven't really looked into it much." His answer was admittedly lame but it was the truth.

Carmin didn't have any goal yet? Sumi was a little concerned, but refused to show. Instead he responded on the possible reason for that: "Too concerned with the curse, I assume? I can understand that. But I'm sure you can find yourself a nice goal, regardless of the situation. And once you do, well, don't lose sight of it. And let me know, of course."

Carmin blushed when Sumi got the nail right on the coffin. He gave a quick nod but didn't say much else about his curse troubles.

It seemed Sumi had much more confidence in him than he had in himself with regards to him having a calling in life. Normally Carmin would've shot the hope down, saying something along the lines of him doubting it, but he decided not to this time. Instead, all he said was "Yeah, will do."

Sumi smirked at Carmin, and then looked back up at the sky. "We are like Issun-Boshi... The "Inch-High Samurai", as some may know this Japanese tale. It didn't matter how small he was, he had big ambitions. Heh, he defeated an oni to save a girl, found a magical mallet that allowed him to grow to the size of a human and married her.", he explained what went through his mind.

Issun-whoey? Carmin didn't say anything out loud before Sumi had already begun explaining. It certainly wasn't a story Carmin had heard of before.

"Sure wish a hammer like that was real. Though I doubt it'd even work on me if it was. As usual, Carmin kinda missed the point of the story. "I don't really have big ambitions either... But I think the story still works for you."

"It's not about the magic hammer. It's about how anyone, no matter how small they may be, can achieve great things if they believe in themselves. Cursed or not, you can achieve great things as long as you aim to.", Sumi clarified that a magical cure to the problem wasn't what matters, "If Issun-Boshi never found the magic hammer, I'm sure he would continue to adventure and make his name known. Little man, big fame."
