Carmin just stood up and watched as Sumi retrieved the pencil. The animal actions with the kid body looked kinda silly, but it wasn't the weirdest thing he'd seen.

When Sumi brought the pencil back to him, Carmin refused to take it. "Look, dog kid yokai thing, I don't want to play and I can't learn to draw, it just doesn't work."

Sumi's face gained a slightly pink tint as he felt embarrassed for what he just did, he took Carmin's pencil out his mouth and gave it back to him. "Don't believe you can't or that it doesn't work. Not every artist succeeded at first, I certainly didn't. Just like you, I got upset, thought that my own art was bad, but I still kept trying, started with basic shapes and simpler things.", he frowned and his tail stopped waving, "As long as you keep trying, you can still succeed. Only robots have imposed limits."

"At first?" Carmin raised his voice a little. "I used to be able to draw, not great but you could at least tell what I was drawing. Now-" He didn't want to tell people that he used to be human so he caught himself before he headed down that lane. He wiped a hand down his face and lowered his voice again.

He sighed "I've been trying to draw a tree for a week, it just doesn't turn out, I can't feel and I can't get muscle memory without any muscles to speak of." He still never took the pencil back.

He didn't catch on with the possibility of Carmin being originally a human, now stuck into a plant form. How to be familiar with that anyways? Sumi was still relearning what he had way back in his own past... But there was one of the things that Carmin said afterwards that made the ink wolf boy pensive.

"I get it, you don't feel like doing trees. So, do something else. If you don't have any muscles, why should that matter? I don't either. I'm literally a sentient blob of ink with shape and a core that keeps me alive.", he too gave a sigh, licked the pencil's tip and started sketching on the air, with short lines, the outline of the lake and the mountains from his perspective. The fact a thin tracing of ink stuck to the art was... Weird to say the least.

There was no way it was just trees. He hadn't tried drawing much else, but he was confident in his lack of artistic skills when it came to all objects that weren't trees. It was one of the very few things he had any confidence in at all anymore.

As Sumi began drawing on the air itself, Carmin sat himself down again and just watched. “It’s not that...” He was mostly just out of excuses now but still not giving in. Carmin was also more confused than ever about what Sumi actually was. He got that he was a yokai, but the whole sentient ink blob thing was new.

“Sometimes you just don’t have it in you. That’s when you gotta cut your losses and move on...”

He stopped drawing when he was almost done, hearing Carmin come up with a partially valid excuse. "Been there a few times myself. To be honest, today is one of those days for me, I was working a small commission, but didn't really feel like drawing human being, called quits for the day and went outside to play and explore the lake.", Sumi responded, tilted his head about the drawing he made on the air, and clicked his tongue before erasing it with his hands. He wasn't satisfied with something...

Carmin wanted to just leave and go home now. Or at least, that's what he thought he wanted. For some reason he was still there, sitting on the grass next to this person who he couldn't understand. In all honesty he wasn't sure what he wanted. Part of him wanted to get away from everyone and yet another part was sick and tired of being alone.

When Sumi straight up destroyed his work right after completing it, Carmin stared at him with disbelief. "What? Why'd you break it so quick?"

"You should know why...", he didn't say directly what was it, but someone with eyes keen enough would have remembered before he erased it that he didn't outline the mountain correctly, the lines dipped too much. For him to make such mistake... Was he really under the weather to do any art? "Sumi. Call me Sumi.", he gave a friendly smile to Carmin, his tail waving as he spoke.

After the abominations Carmin had been creating all week, a poorly outlined set of mountains was practically invisible. He just squinted his eyes trying to think of what that meant and failed to actually do so before Sumi introduced himself.

"Uh, okay. I'm Carmin. And just to get this straight, I'm not a kid, I'm eighteen." He lifted up his arm to show off his MSD bracelet.

"Wait, Eighteen?" Sumi had a hard time believing, then again, he too had some discrepancy in his own age, "And in truth I am fifteen. I was kinda "born" matured to a small degree, but... Never grew past 12. So I am sorta familiar with the situation. Not by a lot though.".

Looking slightly pensive for a moment, in the next he suddenly felt some muse coming to and his mouth contorted into a smile. It wasn't hard to see what he was sketching next on the air: It was a chibi version of Carmin and, hilariously it was to scale 1:3.
