Shay hadn't had a chance to spend alone time with most of her family members. Today, though, she was in the park with Archer. She'd just kind of followed him that day, trying to be as quiet as she could. She liked him. He was laid-back, snippy, and very apathetic to most things. It made it easy for Shay to work at her own pace.

While she may have been quiet around him for the majority of the time, by a little past mid-day Shay had loosened up enough to sit close to him, or question him, and joke with him. She decided early on that she appreciated Archer.

Shay wore a hat, given to her by Vito. It was a fedora, the manliest hat around (said her father). Vito had told she had to wear the hat to show Archer what a real hat looked like. She didn't want to fight with Vito, so she did as he said.

"Do you work for Klaus?" she asked, after a long lull. "Do you get protection from the family? Like bodyguards?"

What a pain this day was turning out to be. Drifting around doing errands on a day off was nice and all, but today he had his cousin's adopted daughter following him around. The Son of Belphegor made his rounds, finally settling on the park to socialize and maybe take a nap. He adjusted his hat, a rather large beanie that was protected by a unique spell that allowed only him to remove it. It was large enough that he could pull it over his eyes if need be, as well as keep his soft hair hidden.

He eyed the girl and frowned, the fedora was a rather questionable choice of fashion. Probably something that snake demon Vito gave to her. The guy dressed like he was in some gangster movie set in the 30's...lame. Of course, odd personalities and quirks like that seemed to be common on the island. Still, fedoras were an aberration worn by pizza faced nerds with neck beards at comic book stores. He'd get around to poking at it later. He had to be nice to the relatives, after all.

"He's asked. There's no way I'd stoop to serving another prince," he answered her first question with a huff. Sloth demons weren't exactly the easiest demons to work with. While his sister was raised by Klaus, he grew up under the more standard route for an indolent demon. He could care less about Klaus's gang and had enough of an ego to refuse any offers. As far as he was concerned they were equals.

"I don't really need guards, I get along just fine on my own," he sighed. He knew she was only curious and would answer her questions easily enough. She wasn't as pushy or odd in behavior like her fathers were. She oddly seemed like a typical girl for her age. He could see himself getting along fairly well with Shay.

"I didn't know sloth demons were so prideful," Shay said thoughtfully. She messed with the fedora, tipping it to shield her eyes from the setting sun. She had become more nocturnal than she'd been before, living with Klaus and Vito. "It's weird. You say you wouldn't stoop so low, but you seem to like him enough? Or, is that just 'cause you gotta?"

She figured he had to. It was easier, anyway, to be friendly with Klaus than to try and ignore him. It seemed to Shay that the more Klaus was ignored, the more he followed someone around.

Shay reclined beside him on the grass, staring skyward. Unfortunately, her hat had to sit awkwardly slanted on her face so she could comfortable lay her head back. Shay put her arms behind her head, wiggling to get comfortable. She wished she was as relaxed as he looked.

"Have you ever been targeted? Have you ever had to hurt someone?" She squinted as she watched him, it wasn't a look easily seen beneath the cover of her headwear. Shay paused, testing something.

Over the years, she had gotten good at not revealing when she knew someone had killed. She had gotten equally as good at ignoring the whispers when talking, but they still served as an annoyance.

"You don't have a job, do you? If not, how do you pay for stuff?"

He gave her initial question some thought. When it came down to it, he would much rather do his own thing than work under someone. Arguably his strangest trait was the independent self reliant nature of his. "Well," he yawned as he considered the best way to explain his stance on his cousins. "Klaus is alright, even entertaining, I'd just rather keep to myself. I'm not exactly the easiest person to get along with, he could tell you that himself."

He valued his family but, he also preferred a solitary existence, distanced from their affairs but close enough that he could peek in when he wanted to. It left his daily life a bit of a mystery for most people. But keeping things on his terms was near the top of his list of personal values.

He lay relaxed while subconsciously bracing for her next question. Another easy one, he figured he could just tell her out right given the business her family was in. "Well, yeah I've been targeted a few times. I'm not really someone you wanna piss off. I'm kinda tough," he answered, downplaying any hints that he had a fairly rigorous training schedule as well as a good deal of experience. "If anyone tries anything...I'll beat them up."

Living a solitary existence did require a good deal of strength. He found himself yawning again, though he wasn't sleepy. He wasn't really bored either, Shay's company wasn't all bad. She seemed to be one of the people attempting to grasp at understanding his life. Though in her case, he wouldn't mind spilling. "I've got a ton of cash thanks to being one of dad's favorites. But I also teach self defense classes part time at the gym near my apartment. Actually I'm considering starting up a dojo type thing...but no one needs to know that," he added hinting that he needed that little tidbit to be a secret for a little bit.

Shay didn't know much about sloth demons. She didn't know a great deal about any demons. Being here and talking to her new family was all very odd (though not unpleasant) for her. She did recall Klaus telling her to treat individuals as individuals, and she had taken that to heart.

Eroshay watched Archer's every move, trying to get a better feel for him than she had now. He was more than he seemed; she had no basis for that thought, but she knew it was true because it was nearly accurate for all people.

"Seems like it would happen a lot," Shay mused, mentally envisioning how strong Archer must have been. 'Kinda' was the word people used when they downplayed. At least, she tended to.

She yawned when he did, the action relaxing her body and fuzzying her mind. Shay closed her eyes in a long blink, feeling the final warmth of the sun and the serene energy of the park. This was the kind of place someone could take a long nap.

Shay wondered the kind of things a demon could get when they were the favorite. Cash was obviously one. Protection? Magical gifts? She supposed it depended on the father.

The girl did perk up upon hearing that Archer planned on making a dojo. She wanted desperately to ask why he wanted her to keep it a secret, but maybe it was supposed to be obvious?

"Okay," Shay began carefully. "You don't want Klaus trying to help you with it, do you?" That sounded right. That was the reason Shay would have kept something a secret. For independence. "Could I attend some of your classes? At the gym or a later date, it doesn't matter. I'd just like to be capable of taking care of myself."

She was still bitter about having a member of the gang following her. It was all for good reason, and she didn't fight it, but she wished she didn't need it. She felt like the weakest member of this entire family.
