Wait, no, this felt bad. It felt really bad. Not to the point of cry or anger, but their chest stung and their smile faltered a bit before giving out a shaky laugh. Smokey wasn't sure what felt worse, making Phoebe glitch out so badly that they were the focus of a scene, or being rejected. One was decidedly more selfish than the other, so Smokey decided to not focus on that one.

"N-No! You don't need to apologize. It's fine. I just wanted to be upfront about it. Not make it sound like I tricked you into a date or anything. And I wasn't sure how, uh... genderless people fit into that, so I thought I'd give it a try." Their confidence was wavering more and more, but they forced themself to play it off as being cool and unaffected.

"I don't want you to feel sorry about rejecting me. I'm just happy we can still keep being friends. Do you still keep hanging out today? You seem a bit... flustered."

Phoebe's breath was evening out and her form was essentially stabilized at this point. She sighed inwardly and gave an embarrassed smile to Smokey. "I'm sorry I didn't mean to glitch out like that. It was just so surprising, you know? Back home, nobody really showed any interest in me because I was a weirdo. And it's been... kind of the same here. So it just shocked me. A lot."

Flickering to a crouching position to pick up her skee ball, she stood back up and rolled it between her hands nervously. She felt really bad for having lost control of her form like that. It must've made Smokey feel awful. Made them feel like she hated the idea. It wasn't that it was just- Smokey was a monster. And monsters were awesome! Monsters were the coolest. But she didn't want to kiss one.

"I wanna keep hanging out. You're like one of my best friends. One of the only friends I've ever had actually..."

Smokey calmed a little now that they understood why Phoebe glitched out so badly. It actually made them feel really happy, which just made the rejection a bit more painful.

"I'm kind of a weirdo here too. It's why I really liked you. A lot of the time I say the wrong thing at the wrong time and place, then everyone gets angry at me. I don't remember getting like that around you. You're easy to relate to."

"It sucks you don't want to date me, but I was more worried you'd think things got too awkward and we had to stop being friends. Apparently, that's a thing that happens... here." Smokey didn't want to say it was a thing that happened to humans, but man could they be sensitive over romance. Human television taught that to them a lot."

Smokey almost continued with the idea that they could use a human form, but that just sounded desperate. And really, Smokey wasn't willing to go that far for a crush. They were an oricenta, and their human forms weren't to be used for fun like some people here.

"Nah of course not. I'd hate to lose my best friend just because I don't want to date them." Phoebe grinned a little bit, her teeth showing a bit sharper than normal.

"Come on, let's do skee-ball. Winner pays... oh wait I don't eat. Uh..." Phoebe tapped her fingers against the ball and thought about it. "Eh, forget it. We'll just play for fun!"
