Ever since the news of magic dying, Ade had been wandering Manta Carlos a lot more. Her family expected her to seclude herself in her room, which she did at first, but the tension in the house became too much. It became preferable to leave the house with a bag of knick-knacks and gadgets for her to mess around with. Her own fidget tools.

She laid down in a grassy area and sat the bag next to her. Then, she pulled out the mask that let her modify her voice. In her own little world, the people looking at the strange woman in the park building and taking apart that mask was of no concern to her. This was her comfort zone and helped her work through her anxiety.

Reno's mind had been absorbed by many issues and problems, possibilities and ideas. It had been constantly active ever since he realised he was stuck in this world, not that he overly minded. This timeline seemed pleasant enough, and Reno enjoyed learning about the differences between the Earth he comes from and this one. Manta Carlos was especially nice for him. A place with the supernatural, something that completely didn't exist in his own home, and fantastical technology. A fair amount of technology was similar to the technology he was familiar with, although the technology he knew followed a more 'steampunk' design and workings.

When Reno was absorbed in thought, he liked to roam. He couldn't just think to himself when he was sitting or standing still, and fairly common roamings meant he could get some exercise in. Reno roamed the streets, circled the same route a couple of times, before he made his way to the park. Although he preferred roaming, sitting in the outdoors may shed light to new ideas...

Once he arrived, he sighed and snapped out of his mental workshop. Before he had left today, his arms had been clean, but now there were scribbled notes on his hands and arms from the ideas he had during his walk. Reno looked around the park, enjoying the pleasant enough Autumn day. He stopped every now and then to chat with someone, just trying to make some pleasant conversation. It was only a moment, but Reno glanced over Ade. When he first saw her face, he thought he would leave her alone. She looked pretty focused.

But then he saw what she was doing. Instantly, Reno's curiosity and hunger for knowledge compelled him to walk over to Ade. Plus being a pretty sociable person who liked connecting with like minded individuals made it an easier decision for him. "Good day...!" He spoke, chipper as ever, though he would usual say 'Miss' or 'Sir' or some other title, but his hesitation to do so this time showed his uncertainty. "I was having a stroll in this park on this wonderful day when I noticed you were working on some kind of device. May I ask what specifically you are doing? Oh, but if I am a bother, please do just tell me to leave!" Reno smiled as he held his hands behind his back.

Ade was so deep in her own world that she didn't realize someone was approaching until they spoke. The masculine voice made her look up at the figure with a bland expression. Not one of annoyance, but not one of acceptance either. If there was any sign of her discomfort, it was the slight crease in her eyebrows

"Oh. Uh..." She looked down at her work, then back up at the man. "I'm just, uh, messing around... I wouldn't call you a bother. You're more of a... surprise." Her eyes darted away from the man as she tried to find something else to look at. They eventually settled back on her half-constructed mask. In her hand was also a hand drill with glowing runes all over it. With it, she shaped it into any mundane building-orientated tool she needed. Currently, it was set on a screwdriver.

"It's a voice modifying mask I made a while back. I infused it with magic to expand what it could do. I'm just... fidgeting with it. Helps clear my mind."

Reno considered leaving Ade alone upon seeing her reaction, or lack of, and response. Being a surprise didn't necessarily mean it was much better than being a bother. Guilt crept into his head. Reno was decently self aware that he energetic and overly friendly, and he truly wanted to avoid discomforting people. But his curiosity had a habit of letting that happen anyway.

As Ade looked down at the mask, Reno found himself looking at it as well. His face visibly lit up as he looked at it, even more so when he saw the drill with runes. Reno was familiar with technology, and had started to dabble more in magitech since becoming a student at Starlight Academy. Ade speaking about how she had used magic only made Reno curious.

"Oh, is this by chance magitech?!" Reno exclaimed, unable to contain his curiosity and excitement. "Oh, I apologise if I'm excitable. It is just I am very curious about technology as an inventor myself, and I am studying magitech at the school." He smiled brightly, speaking very quickly. "What can the mask do?" Reno immediately jumped into another question.

After a few moments where he seemed to mildly vibrate on the spot, he suddenly looked very shocked and... disappointed? "Oh, I have been terribly rude. I must apologise once again. I haven't even introduced myself. My name is Reno Smith, it is absolutely wonderful to make your acquaintance." Seemed he was disappointed in himself.

Reno's reveal that he was also an inventor and student of magitech made Ade's expression changed. Initially, she thought Reno was going to be some hyperactive and annoying kid, but he was a fellow tech-head as well. Her cheeks turned a light blue, and while her eyes widened initially, they seemingly closed and stayed that way.

"It is!" she said enthusiastically with a higher-pitched voice. Soon after, she realized how uncool that was and forced herself to speak with her deeper, apathetic voice. "Er, right, I'm Ade Leizu. Sometimes I'm known as Arida. It's good to meet you too."

She proudly held up what remained of her mask, a small smile on her face. "This allows me to mimic any humanoid voice and mundane sound. I can even overlap sounds so it sounds like multiple people talking or actions taking place at the same time."

Even while he scolded himself for his rudeness, Reno still directed most of his attention at Ade and the mask that she held. When she spoke with enthusiasm, the mild discomfort Reno felt that he could be causing Ade problems disappeared. Of course he would back off if she requested, but he felt much more reassured believing that she was happy to talk about the craft they both shared an interest in.

As she held up the mask, Reno observed it with great interest. His eyes scanned over it to get as much information he could just by looking at it without taking it apart himself. "It allows you to mimic sounds? I see!" Reno nods thoughtfully, going to kneel down so he was closer to eye level with Ade... also so he could get a closer look at the mask.

"There were similar creations where I'm from, but I don't think they could be used in something like a mask." He held his chin in thought for a moment. "So when you say mimic, it just mimics the sound? You're able to form your own words rather than completely having to mimic the words." Reno looked at Ade with a curious look on his face.

Ade nodded, all the while working on rebuilding the mask so she could demonstrate. "Mhm. I can say anything I want. It's great for when I'm singing. Oh, but most of my recorded performances have me without the mask. I find it useful when I lack backup singers or some instruments. Sucks that most of the time it's not useful for my work."

As she rambled, her fingers moved deftly. It would still take some time to reconnect all parts of the mask, but at the speed she was working, it was clear that she knew her creation like the back of her hand.

Reno held his chin again, looking thoughtful. "I see!" He nods. "We do have devices but they're not capable of playing new sounds, so to speak. They can only reproduce sounds they have recorded before. My father had attempted a project to make a device that could create new sounds, but he eventually dropped it." Reno smiles, looking a little sad.

He shakes head, returning to his cheerful and bright demeanour. Reno took the moment to observe Ade reassemble the mask. Then, he took out a pocket watch from one of his pockets to show Ade. "This is something I made! It seems like a regular pocket watch, but it actually allows me to travel through time." Reno beams proudly. "Although, it's not working as intended currently." He sighs.

Ade gave the man a confused stare. The way he spoke made him sound like he was from another world. It was when he brought up his time traveling watch that she quickly put the dots together. If she hadn't, she would have assumed that the man was woefully out of date on modern technology. Or that he was from another species with poor technology.

"So you are from another time? What time period?" she asked. "You're lucky you arrived here. There are plenty of people to help with that problem."

Reno scratched his chin again. He had noticed several people asked him what time he came from. An answer he found somewhat difficult to answer. The time was actually the exact same: 2019. But the vast differences in technology, culture, geography...

“Well, when I’ve told others, they have said I am more or less from a different world... However, I find it easier to say different timeline. I am from 2019, but not the same 2019 as here.” He nodded, satisfied with the explanation he gave.

Reno held the watch in his hand, his thumb rubbing the metal surface. Eventually he laughed a little. “I’m being a bit stubborn actually.” He admitted. “I’ve been on the island for a number of months now, but I have not sought out assistance with the watch’s repair.” Reno nodded, both of his hands rested on his knees. “I am the creator, and I wish to discover the problem and fix it myself.”
