Amara's legs were pacing quickly in consecutive motions as she made her way up the staircase. Tied up in a long ponytail her black hair flowed behind her contrasting against the blue of her uniform. The moon was up and illuminating the staircase alongside the hanging lights. Her mind was racing with disappointment how could she have let herself over sleep like some degenerate. Today was her first day of mentorship with Bloodline 101 teacher Professor. Thurstan.

Amara had never had a vampire teacher in all her years of Starlight Academy. It wasn't like night class were needed for her as most of her classes were during the day. Rumors could be heard of the visually appealing professor who apparently had experienced a lot in life. This wasn't very surprising to her as most Vampire lived long lives and could experience much. Supposedly her Professor was decently aged himself.Certainly older than both her parents who even in comparison to the oldest vampires could be considered children.

With a quick push she busted open the staircase door scaring some of the other night dwellers heading to class. Room 345 was her number, but the sheer amount of rooms were intimidating. Each door was a solid light blue with a gold outline around them. Each one kept in prime and perfect detail. Pacing down the numbers she counted off in her head, " 340...341...342..343....344..There!" The door was slightly opened inviting the students to come in. Looking up at the clock in the hall the time read 8:50pm. Her mentor had officially called to tart at 9:00pm but being early was Amara's thing. She pushed open the door slowly peeking first to see if anyone was inside.

Van Thurstan sat at his desk, a calm smile on his face, his long black hair with a purple hue was brushed back out of the way. He had mentored many people in his long life, but he had never taught in a school before.

He looked to a large stack of books beside him, with a flick of his hand a copy was shadow teleported to every student's desk. They were edited copies of Van Helsing's journals, he was a brilliant mam stuck in a superstitios time, so a little editing made the journals an excellent introduction to Vampire Bloodlines.

His silver gray eyes went to the door, a girl of maybe 17 stood there with it open, he gave her a smile, "good morning dear, your a bit early." He motioned to the desks, "please take any seat."

Amara eyes flared up as the man spoke to her. She wasn't the first one here which was strange but not bothering. With a small nod and thank you she walked into the classroom. The room was fairly average probably able to hold 30 students at one time. The walls were a dark blue with dark wood floors. Each step she took left a hard thud in the hollow room as noise echoed off the walls and desk back to her ears. She took a seat towards the front of the class by the window.

The window was right next to her letting the moonlight hit her desk and over the book in front of her. "Hellsings Diary" she whispered to herself. Almost every vampire knew who Van Hellsing was. He was one of if not thee most feared vampire hunters in the mythical world. Even the humans accused him of being inhuman. Amara looked at the black book and gave it a skim through. You could tell it had been tampered with as the words were to modern to have been the verbatim version.

Amara closed the book and looked up at her teacher. "How long have you been teaching here sir? I've never seen you around this campus before. Are you new?" Amara had been in this school all her life, but only recently had this mans named popped up.Apparently he taught both High school and College level classes which must have been a large load.

He smiled, "yes this will be my first excursion into education, but I've been to the island several times over the years."

He leaned back in his chair, "most don't realize the sheer variety of vampires, even many vampires don't realize it." He nodded toward a group of shelves which were brimming with books, "that is merely the begining of the thousands of scrolls and books I've transcribed, all ancient records of the bloodlines."

"It started out as a something of hobby, but I quickly became a historian of sorts." He rose from his seat, and stood in front of his desk, "I will not be able to teach you everything, even if you take my college followup class there is just too much."

He smiled and nodded, "but if you listen...I may give you a new perspective on vampirism and its long history." He took a sip of his blood laced coffee, "the nosferatu have much to share."

"What I've placed in front of you are copies of Van Helsing's journals, I know what your thinking, a book written by a vampire hunter being used to teach this class may seem strange, but I promise you...it is a very good starting point."

Amara's eyes followed the man as he walk in front of his desk explaining his work. H seemed to have a deep care for this hobby if the whole shelf was by him. Amara didn't know much of the varying bloodlines of vampires that was her motivation for this class to begin with.

She had seen vampires of varying traits and appearances in her life on the island. Each one slightly different from the last. It was quite fascinating to her in every regard. "Oh, I thought using an outsider perspective would make more sense to use. No one studies you more than an enemy. I'm sure Van Hellsing had a lot of information on our people." She crossed her legs adjusting her skirt a bit.

She truly hated this uniform and couldn't wait to remove this loose garment. "Most vampire's tend to become conceited with age so older lexicons tend to be more ego stroking than necessary." She looked at the book in front of her again. "If anyone would know us better than ourselves it would surely be the person killing us."

Amara let out a light chuckle thinking on how weird it must have been back in those days. Vampire were creatures feared in bedtime stories as being the bane of the world. However here on this island they are just people walking around with a lot more scary things surrounding them. "Well I'm sure you've been around for a long time so you must have much to share too." a small smile escaped her as she glared at her Professor.

Van smiled, this girl was sharp, just the kind of intelligence he wanted out of his students, "if you take the time to learn your enemy, then victory becomes certainty."

He grabbed his copy of the journals, "as for Abraham Van Hellsing well...he was a brilliant man. And despite what some of you may be thinking....he didn't hate vampires." He knew this would be a surprise to many of them. "He was faced with a powerful evil vampire and was forced to learn." He held out his copy, "I didn't take this....Van Hellsing gave it to me of his own free will." Many supernatural beings went through horrible things at the hands of humans, but they had to learn that there evil among the supernatural as well.

He smiled, "I am nearly 600 years old, while there are many older vampires, I have still seen much in my lifetime, fought in many wars. And I am here to convey what I've learned to all of you."

Amara tilted her head a bit in thought at what the man had said. This man was given the diary of a well known killer willingly. Something about that threw her off. Did he help kill Vlad? No one really could say how the Impaler died, maybe help from a supernatural friend made Vlad killing him easier.

Amara shook the thought in her head as assuming wasnt going to do anything for her. "If you've fought in many wars what part of the world were you from. Spanning 600 years there have been many wars." It was hard to distinguish were a vampire might be from based on looks. Almost all had that pale feature besides the other bloods who had some form of pigmentation to their skin.

Amara fidgeted in her bag quickly pulling out a pencil and notebook. She let out a sigh of relief as she could barely remember if she had packed everything she needed before heading out. The fact she woke up late was embarrassing enough. Normally she would like a great first impression but here she was scatterbrained and unsure of herself. The though alone of being so off flow was weird.

He smiled and set the book down, "well for example, I served as an agent for the Allies during WWII against Hitler's Thul occult society, which despite the majority of the world believing to be delusional joke of Hitler's, was actually a real threat."

"Which brings me to an interesting point, vampires have been behind the scenes of many world events." He hit a button on a remote causing a screen on a wall to lit up, on it was an even tree showing vampire involvement throughout history, "quite a lot isn't there......" He pointed to a single historic point at the bottom the tree, "that is where our story begins....quite literally in fact."

He pushed a second button and the screen zoomed into the history point revealing a carved tablet, it showed ring after ring of figures, some were labeled in an ancient language, "what your looking at is a tablet carved in ancient Sumar, the oldest known language." He stepped forward pointing to the arcaic script, "it took me decades to translate it, it tells a story of a group of sorcerers that came together in search of power, combining numerous kinds of magic."

He smirked, "they succeeded." He pointed to the bottom scrip, "this translates as, They Found Power Through Blood." He turned to the students, "can anyone tell me what this means?"

Oh that's interesting she thought. World War Two was a bloody war and she remembers her father joking about how easy it was to feed during that time. Amara looked up at that glowing projector as her professor explained the history of historic vampires. She knew Vampires had played major roles but the sheer amount was astounding. Were humans that stupid back then or did no ever really notice.

Vlad the Impaler was a clear one she could never get over. The dude literally killed a bunch of people in the weirdest of ways and no one questioned this. In her inner thought she had fazed out of the question her teacher had asked catching the tail end. With a small raise of her hand she answer promptly. "Well in the search for immortality most likely these guys used magic to become vampires." She had heard this tale before. Everyone wonders where they come including the mythical.

Her mother had told her this as a child. While she may not have understood back then the topic was easier now. "So do we know how many were in this group exactly Professor. Wouldn't that play a key role in the number of bloodlines that could come about because of genetic diversity and the dilution of the original blood over the years?" According to some documents she had read the blood of a vampire is weaker than the blood of it sire.

This is why some Sired vampires are strong while natural born ones have the same potency if not stronger than their parentage. Was the professor sired? She could always ask these questions later if need be for now she was more intrigued by the answer he would give than these sort of silly questions. Amara didn't think the class would care either way as this was more of a personal inquiry. Taking notes from the board she traced the tree shown and starred some of the major names. Her legs were rising and lowering in rapid succession as she filled her page.

He smiled, "exactly....the first vampires." He stepped away from the screen to face the others. "Unfortunately no, there's no way to know how many of the original vampires there were."

"As for the dilution of the vampire gene pool, thst is a problem with certain bloodlines." He took a sip of his coffee, "for example, there is a bloodline that is commonly called the pale riders, when one is turned into one all yiur teeth become fangs, and you lose all your hair." He stepped forward, "now they were much more bestial than other vampires, because of this they gave no mind of the number they sired...needless to say that bloodline isn't what it used to be."

He turned back to the tablet, "now, most of the original vampires are unamed but a few are given titles here, he tapped on one of the figures, "stormrider," taps the next, "shadow monger," and then the next, "this one is very important, he sired the wraith line," he tapped it again, "his title translates as....son of the dragon." He faced his class, "now...does that sound familiar to anyone?"
