"You couldn't grab my arm! And we both know I'd fight him and lose, but winning isn't the point. Maybe I'd just sucker punch him, then even you wouldn't see it coming."

She snorted, pat Jude's shoulder. "Uh, I think I'm going to... go do some things. But you can go ahead and head back. We can talk later if you need."

She was definitely hurt. Absolutely. He'd screwed things up again, and he grimaced, but did finally nod.

"Alright. We can, uh, talk tonight? I guess?" Maybe. Maybe they could talk that night. Assuming she wasn't too hurt. But she had to know that this was... well...

"I'll see you later anyway," Jude said, pushing himself upright. "Thanks. For listening, even though it was stupid."

Jude looked panicked, so Rory put on a bigger, sappier smile and pat him a little harder like old friends did. "It wasn't stupid. This shit is scary. Even I didn't have the balls to.. well come right out and tell my crush shit. But you'll get it. I'm sure it'll all end up fine."

Even if Rory wasn't sure that was true at all. "I'm glad you told me."
