It had taken a while for Malina to come around, but she was finally on board with the idea of spending the full moon with Tasha. She'd lost count of the moons she'd spent alone - moons that used to be a time for community had instead become a time for confused solitude. How she longed for those nights! The scents of her packmates, the closeness, the unfettered affection - she still felt these things, haunting her like the sensations of a phantom limb. Even as she she curled up alone on her own plot of land each full moon, those fond memories served to make her self-imposed exile all the more bitter.

The next full moon would be different. She would have a friend, this time.

Malina knew - there were preparations to be had, and only a few days to make them. She sent Tasha a text message.

[So, for the feast before the wolf moon - Are there any dietary considerations I need to make for you?]

For centuries before Malina was alive, this had been her people's way: they would eat a huge meal before the effects of the full moon truly set in. That way they would be too satisfied to go out and cause problems with the human population. Wolf moons, in particular, called for a special meal.

Too long. That's how long it had been since Tasha had shared a full moon with someone. And it had been even longer since she shared it with family. To say that she was nervous would be an understatement.
A louder than usual buzz came from where her phone sat on her desk, the vibration amplified by the glass top of the desk. Though harsh, it was a welcome distraction from paperwork as the alpha opened the message.
It was from Malina as regarding the upcoming wolf moon. Essentially a holiday to Tasha and her old pack, it seemed Malina and her pack celebrated it as well. But what was this feast she referred to?
[Feast? You don't hunt on the full moons?]
Tasha knew times had changed, but since her exile, she stayed away from other werewolves for the most part. She had a lot to catch up on, and this was the opportunity to really display that she wasn't some tyrant alpha. She just needed to keep an open mind and try to enjoy herself

Hunting on the full moon. She supposed that made sense, in a way. It was something wolves did - they were predators after all.

But werewolves did plenty of things wolves didn't. They had alphas, they had houses, they had investments. They bought food from grocery stores and restaurants. They didn't need to hunt for their food.

She texted back: [Not usually, but we didn't exactly need to. The feasting was to help make sure we didn't go out and cause trouble or try to kill each other. If we wanted to hunt we'd do it sober. Been like that for more than a thousand years. News to you?]

She had to wonder how that would feel though - hunting while touched by the moon.

Tasha stared at the phone. Then after what seemed like an eternity (likely only seconds) dropped the phone to her lap and let out a single amused huff. It had never crossed her mind to do that, but it made total sense. With a smile, Tasha picked the phone back up and replied.
[Definitely news. But good news. If it keeps everyone safe, that's the most important part. I have no dietary concerns.]
After sending the message, Tasha leaned back and chuckled again. She wondered when that had started, who's idea it had been, and how it was taken. It lined up with what she was wanting to do when she became Alpha before her exile. Another smile appeared before she continued on.

Malina's home was far out of the way. The nearest bus stop was at the far end of the agricultural district, and Malina would greet Tasha the moment she stepped off the bus early in that evening.

Malina looked ready for a jog, with her running shoes and her loose-fitting pants.

"Hey Tasha! I was thinking when I was getting the feast ready. Going for a run would probably help with the moon, too. Want to jog with me back to my place, or ride along on my bike?" She gestured to the floating metal contraption sitting off to the side of the bus stop.

Either way, she made sure the food would stay warm. They were in no hurry.

The bus ride had taken longer than Tasha thought it would, and she was regretting taking it. Not only would it have been faster to run, but she wouldn't have been cooped up in a seat. She was lucky enough, however, that no one had decided to take the seat next to her. So when the bus finally came to her stop, she couldn't get off fast enough.
As she nearly dashed off the bus, Tasha came face to face with Malina, and it took her a moment to take in the similarities between the two, again. They were just so similar. After only a second or so, Tasha met Malina's greeting with a smile.
"Hey Sug! Oh man a run sounds amazing right now. I swear they pack more and more people on the bus every year."
Eyes did cut over to the bike to take it in for a moment. It wasn't like most bike's she had seen, and made sure to note that for future conversations. Tasha adjusted the backpack slung over her back that held an extra change of clothes. Not being sure of how all the new traditions went, Tasha had packed a set of nicer clothes to change into in case things were more formal, but for now, sweats and sneakers were the theme.

Malina smiled. She'd thought Tasha would go for that. So she fiddled with her bracelet, pressing a few buttons on it until the bike started to move all its own, lifting off, then flying its way over the tree line towards Malina's home. Aside from a barely-perceptible hum it was dead silent.

"Alright! We're gonna want to turn right up there, then take that street all the way up to Olcan road, where we'll take a left." She smiled. "They named it after me since I cleared it out myself."

She'd start at a brisk jog, then quickly pick up the pace, keeping an eye on how well Tasha could keep up.

Seeing the bike zip off almost perfectly silent Tasha nodded approvingly. That had to be convenient for the work Malina did. Her attention was snapped back as the younger werewolf gave directions to where they were headed.
"Well that was nice of them. Lead the way."
Tasha tightened the straps of her backpack to let her run easier. As Malina started, Tasha took off after her. The pace started easy and then picked up. A smile crept onto her face as it got faster and faster. Tasha had no trouble keeping up and was excited to see what the rest of the night held.

It was a nice couple of miles before the two of them reached a sign that said "OLCAN." At the pace they ran, it hardly took any time at all. The two turned off the composite road they had been running on and onto a well-maintained dirt-and-gravel road. "I made it myself," she said. Then she guided Tasha along the last half-mile of it to her house.

Malina's house looked almost like a luxury cabin. It had a deck, and it had big glass windows to let the sun in. The two arrived just in time to see her hoverbike swoop in and park itself in Malina's garage.

Well before they could see the house, Tasha would start to smell it. There was an assortment of German comfort foods, mouth-watering and decadent, none of which could possibly have been on her usual diet. Malina slowed down and caught her breath as they approached the front door.

"Ready to take a cheat day?" she asked.

Tasha spied the sign and it almost made her heart leap into her chest seeing her name on it. Malina really was her relative and wasn't pulling some cruel trick. The turn onto the road brought another smile to her face as she felt the gravel under her feet. Even with how maintained it was, it wasn't the perfectly smooth that the hardtop was, and that unevenness called to her.
"Very nicely done. I love that you didn't go asphalt for it."
Their pace had been relieving, even if only slightly. The full moon was here, and it was making Tasha anxious and full of energy. She knew it would only get worse as the moon rose overhead. That wasn't the only thing overhead. The smell. Fried foods, cooked meats, melted cheeses, everything that was against anything she would recommend to her clients.
"That. Smells amazing. I am absolutely ready."
The werewolf couldn't help but smile at how events had turned out recently. She went from a self induced isolation to having friends, a relationship, and even family again.
"Hey Malina? Thanks. This honestly means a lot and I know it couldn't have been easy on you either."
