Appearance Description: Upon first glance, two factors immediately jump out about Tak from a physical standpoint: Contrary to what the typical image of a goblin might be, Tak isn't actually that short, standing at 4'7", and she very distinctly seems to have walked straight out of another time period altogether. She has a very lithe build with plenty of lean muscle definition, and her skin, a light olive color, is wreathed in all manner of scarring ranging from small scratches to very obvious and deep marks. Tak's eyes are wide and curious, her irises a bright citrine with glittery flecks of silver throughout, her pupils vertically slit and catlike.
Her hair is a darker moss green and is cut fairly short, with a gentle amount of waviness to it. The right side is shaved, with a small leather wrapped braid hanging from the left. Tak's teeth in general are lightly pointed, but her canines in particular are very sharp and noticeably elongated, especially the lower ones, which appear as small tusks, and her tongue is slightly pointy and black. Small but sharp black claws cap each of her toes and all but one of her fingers, as she's missing half of her left pinky. The ivory jewelry adorning her pointed ears is essentially all that she has in that regard, but a variety of simple blue tribal tattoos wrap her right ankle, thigh, and arm, as well as a similar design around her neck and over her right eye. Her preferred style of dress is very obviously antiquated, simple and mostly non decorated leathers and furs, and she prefers simple footwraps that leave her toes open, except in very snowy weather.
Personality Description: Tak's physical appearance isn't the only part of her that doesn't quite fit with the standards of modern society. She's incredibly blunt in her assessment of people and things, certain subtleties and nuances of conversation lost on her entirely. Tak is a firm believer that actions speak many degrees louder than words, due in large part to her culture's verbal communication being very limited, and she has a strong dislike of braggarts and liars. Tactless as she may be, Tak isn't actually very mean spirited, if at all. She holds new things and experiences in both a curious and cautionary light, and does enjoy learning new things, but at the end of the day she is still somewhat set in her ways. One may expect Tak to be the fiercely independent type, but the presence of a small, trusted group of people close to her is something she's come to rely on and expect, and as such she tends to get rather paranoid without regular contact with friends.
Active Abilities: Heart of the Wilds - Something unique to her among her tribe, Tak possesses the ability to create a permanent mental bond with any non-sapient animal, mundane or magical. This is achieved by prolonged physical contact with said animal and willful focus on the ability; the time it takes varies based on a few factors. The intelligence of the animal plays a major part, as well as their size, but whether or not the animal is magical is more impactful than both the first qualities combined. A mundane gerbil may only take something like five minutes, but a majestic, enchanted stag could take a very long time, upwards of five or six hours of uninterrupted contact. Once a bond is made, the animal is docile towards her, Tak can mentally issue basic to moderately complicated commands depending on its intelligence, and they can understand in basic terms how the other is feeling. However, attempting to issue commands that directly cause harm to the animal or entirely go against its nature will yield no results. The range at which the link remains effective is quite large at three miles, and it's more difficult to issue commands the farther away Tak is from the bonded animal. She can maintain a bond with up to ten animals at any given time, and is able to end a bond by repeating the same process that was used to establish it.
Passive Abilities: Goblin Physiology - As a goblin, and particularly an ancient one, Tak has a number of strictly physical advantages. Her speed, strength, durability, and dexterity are all peak human capability. Her hearing is mildly heightened, about 125% as sensitive as a human with good hearing. She's carnivorous, and gets all the nutrients she needs from meat alone. Additionally, Tak's lifespan is expected to be around two hundred years.
Minor Regeneration - Tak's teeth and claws will regrow if broken relatively quickly, within a day's time. Her general healing is also somewhat increased to roughly one and a half times as fast as a normal human's, though this has no effect on things that cannot usually be passively healed from (severed appendages, serious diseases, etc).
Thermal Vision - Tak is able to see the heat signatures of things at the same distance her normal vision functions, and can equally pick out high and low temperatures with no issue. This appears to her as a sort of outline, varying in shade depending on the temperature of what she's looking at.
Weaknesses: Metallic Aversion - For unknown reasons, all refined metal causes an allergic reaction in Tak when brought into even brief contact with her skin. She'll be afflicted with a rash or even blistering and burning, the severity of the reaction directly proportional to how complex the metal is. Complicated alloys are the worst for this, and simple iron the least harmful.
Common Magical Items: Simple Language Charm (Ancient Goblin): This is the standard language charm provided to most characters. It translates a characters mother tongue into English, and allows them to hear English as their mother tongue.
Biography: Tak was born into an unnamed goblin tribe residing in the northeastern portion of what's now known as Brazil, just over twenty two thousand years ago. Even before she or anyone around her knew what power she held, her status as a magic wielder was made obvious by the silver flecks in her eyes, and as such she was well protected and taken care of by the tribe as a whole. Tak's tribe, along with many other goblin tribes, valued those born with innate magic very highly, believing them to be destined for something greater than they could begin to comprehend. Despite the tribe's treatment of her as someone considered special and requiring protection, Tak refused to be tied down from a rather young age, venturing out from her village at nearly every given opportunity to familiarize herself with the land around her.
One such evening, just after her seventh birthday, would prove to be a fateful one, the ability she was born with finally making itself known. Tak had strayed further than she typically did, and just as she was starting to get anxious and returning back the way she had come, she encountered what would soon thereafter be her best friend...but was, in the moment, a massive saber-toothed cat (massive compared to her, at least; in reality she was quite young). Knowing she wouldn't be able to outrun her, Tak acted entirely on instinct and maneuvered her way onto the creature's back, what she ascertained to be the one place it couldn't bite or claw her. Despite her young age, Tak was still quite strong and nimble, and this dexterity allowed her to cling on tightly for what amounted to just over three hours. Eventually, to her surprise, the thrashing and wild attempts to throw her off abruptly ceased, her first bond solidifying.
Relieved that the encounter had ended with only a few minor scratches, Tak was naturally ecstatic that she'd finally discovered what her magic did, riding home to her village atop her new companion, whom she dubbed Valla. Her tribe, while initially shocked, was thrilled to see her power at work. She and Valla grew to be nearly inseparable over the next several years, and her power was employed to the great benefit of her people. However, as was tradition among the goblin tribes of the region and time, those born with special abilities spend only as much time as is necessary with their tribe. After she was considered to have benefited the tribe as much as she could, Tak was taken to an enormous cave located in a centralized spot to all the various tribes, where she was put into a magical cryostasis (of course not without Valla, Tak would have outright refused). This was a responsibility she had been prepared for essentially all her life, and something she did very proudly, knowing that either being prematurely thawed in a tribe's time of need or simply benefiting a future tribe as she had her own were equally great honors.
Time, however, had simply not been on the side of Tak, nor any of the other South American goblins of the time. Barely five years after she was frozen, a devastating outbreak of disease took a heavy toll on the tribes, one of the only eventualities the frozen ones couldn't help with. A truly shocking number of lives were lost among the tribes, and though it was far from an extinction event, all knowledge of how to reach those frozen had faded. Many millennia later, Tak was the only goblin left in the caves who still had a spark of magic left in her icy tomb, and as faint as it was, it had kept her alive beyond the others. Roughly two months after the cave had initially been discovered by a small team of mundane archaeologists, scouts arrived on the scene to investigate, rumors of previously unknown and unusually small remains raising a few red flags. Once there, they happened upon Tak, and determining that she was still alive took the proper steps to thaw her, escorting her (and Valla) safely to the island after a significant period of helping her calm down. Since arriving, she's completed a few preliminary weeks of culture classes, though she has a long, long way to go before truly settling in.
Resources: Standard school stipend and dorm housing.
Additional Information: Carries a wood and stone spear in a leather sheath and wrap, very rarely seen without this. Accompanied the majority of the time by Valla, her saber-tooth companion.
