Aranea was quite talkative, it was nice. Cosette was usually one to listen rather than speak, and she listened to Aranea with a small smile on her face.
"Traveling along the roofs seems more fun than taking the bus, or at least it does to me. I like high places."
Cosette chuckled a bit.
"And surprisingly flying is sometimes more bothersome than using public transportation. Swans aren't so aerodynamic, it's a hassle to take off and land, as you saw. We are built for long flights."
Cosette explained, and then covered her mouth, bit embarrassed by her blabbing.
"I'm sorry, I'm sure you're not interested in such technicalities."

So far. Cosette didn't want to let her opinion of the island itself be so negative even if she had mostly seen the bad sides.
"It's very, um, colourful, for sure. I never saw such lively places in France, I've enjoyed it very much."
Cosette explained, she was smiling but it didn't quite reach her eyes. She wasn't exactly lying, but that wasn't her whole opinion.

"No, please, feel free to tell me about the technicalities," Aranea said. "I find them interesting. There are so many interesting little things about living as a shapeshifter."

Aranea understood what Cosette was doing, or at least thought she understood. She was just being polite about the island, but there were terrifying things here. Things that made one question their own sanity. Aranea knew how this could be.

"It can be pretty overwhelming though, if you're new. But how about this..." Aranea pulled a business card out of her pocket and wrote her personal number on the back. "It helps a lot to know people who've lived here for a while. And if you want, I'd love to hang out with you sometime."

She knew she would probably be rejected, in that quiet way where Cosette wouldn't ever use that number. But hey, nothing ventured nothing gained.

"R-really? Please don't encourage me, I'll talk way too much."
Cosette said and swiped some hair off her face and behind her ear. Now that she took time to notice it was quite cold up here, her robe blocked off the wind but Cosette's ears and cheeks were cold and getting red from something else besides embarrassment.

Overwhelming was right, but Cosette was used to feeling overwhelmed. Almost everything felt overwhelming to her. But she was also good at bearing and hiding it.
Cosette was surprised, when Aranea offered her her number. Cosette opened her mouth to decline, she couldn't enter personal numbers on-
Oh, that's right, Cosette had her own private phone now. No one couldn't look at it if she didn't want them to. That thought made Cosette incredibly happy, so happy she smiled joyfully and took the business card Aranea offered.
"Thank you very much. That sounds nice."
This would be the first new number on Cosette's very own phone. She was so excited to enter it.

Cosette suddenly realized something. She looked around, and down on the street, and for a second she had a panicked face. Oh no, she had not thought this through, had she?
"This is, um, really embarrassing, but...I'm not sure where I am. Do you know what this neighbourhood is called?"
Cosette asked, and looked at Aranea apologetically. And then there was the problem of taking flight...
Cosette glanced at the roof, it wasn't that long, or at least not long enough to take off. Swans had trouble taking off on land in the first place. Guess Cosette would have to find a fire escape and get down that way.

Aranea saw the panic, and she met it with a calming smile.

She pulled out her phone and showed where they were on the map. "So, I don't think the neighborhood really has a name, but... we're right here, and you see Main street over here?" She pointed at the map, and then pointed a few blocks over. "The trick to knowing where you are around here is..."

She would go on, mentioning a couple of landmarks.

"Do you have a phone?" If Cosette had it with her, Aranea would show her how to get that map on it. It wasn't as easy as using the app store; there was a site on the Manta Carlos web.

Cosette had heard you could use maps on your phone, but hadn't actually ever did that herself. The Strip was small so she hadn't gotten lost and when Cosette had left the Strip she hadn't gone far enough to get lost.
Cosette went closer and looked with fascination as Aranea explained to her how to find her way around. Cosette nodded along, making note of everything she said.

"My phone? I think so..."
Cosette felt around and pulled out her phone, it wasn't that new of a model since it was a donation but it was a smartphone and had internet. And it was pastel pink, which was Cosette's favourite colour, and it was hers, so Cosette liked her phone quite a lot.

With the explanation done, she smiled at Cosette. Then something occurred to her. She looked around the roof, noting all the ice and snow underfoot. It was slippery, hard to walk on or jump off of.

"Since you said it's a hassle to take off... can you do that up here? I could take you down to the street if you like," she offered. She had carried a few people up and down buildings through the course of her work, often in the context of a rescue.

As Aranea looked around on the roof Cosette did the same, searching for any fire escapes or other ways of getting down. She did see what looked like a ladder on the other side of the roof, it looked rusty. But Cosette didn't really have much choice, and she turned to smile at Aranea and say her goodbyes. But the woman opened her mouth faster than Cosette, and offered to take her down.

"I couldn't possibly bother-"
Cosette began, lifting her hands, but then glanced behind her towards the ladder. She was wearing uggs, and they weren't that good for climbing ladders. Cosette was bit afraid of climbing down that ladder. So she interrupted herself and looked back at Aranea, slight embarrassed blush on her face.
"I-if it's not too much trouble...I'd appreciate it immensely."

"It's no trouble at all." Aranea smiled. "Don't want to make you have to climb down an icy ladder. Or break in." There was a door for accessing the roof, but it was certainly locked. So many people could reach it so easily; it was well known here by now that leaving those doors unlocked was irresponsible.

"So... It's probably best if I carry you." Aranea would scoop her up bridal style. "Hold on tight to me, ok?"

Now, the spider woman was carrying her to the edge of the roof. There was a moment that many people would find unsettling - as Aranea skittered over the edge and began walking straight down. The spider kept a firm hold on Cosette; her arms were stronger than they looked.

Aranea made Cosette chuckle a bit at the thought of her breaking in, just the thought was so bizarre it made Cosette amused. And she was just amused at herself for being so short-sighted and landing on such a difficult location. Thank goodness Aranea was kind enough to help her.

Carry me? Oh, of co-"
And just then Aranea picked Cosette up bridal style, and she blushed yet again. When Aranea said carry for some reason Cosette had imagined piggy back carry. But this...this was embarrassing and worked too, and like Aranea instructed Cosette wrapped her arms around Aranea's neck and held on firmly.

Cosette wasn't afraid of heights, she was part bird after all, but even she felt bit dizzy at seeing the ground approach at such a slow pace. She pressed bit closer to Aranea, tightening the grip she had around the woman's neck. It was comforting how strong Aranea's arms were whilst carrying her.
Cosette didn't even realize her tight grip until they were safely on the ground and Cosette found her face inches from Aranea's.
"O-oh, I'm so sorry."
Cosette muttered, her face growing pink, and loosened her grip.
"T-thank you so much. I'm so grateful for this, truly."

Aranea smiled and chuckled. The way Cosette was acting was just adorable to her.

"It's no trouble at all. I was heading down here anyway."

Soon, she would be setting Cosette back down on her feet on solid ground. And Aranea just looked down, appreciating her for a moment.

"... Well, you have my number. Message me sometime, ok?"

If Cosette didn't have anything else to say, Aranea would skitter away. She wasn't really expecting Cosette to message her. Surely, Cosette was far out of her league. Cosette might even be straight. But a spider-girl could dream, you know?
