François looked up at the clock. 3:35, it read. His classes were done for the day, and he was ready to simply relax in his room, perhaps draw something or read up on recent events back home. Whatever he was doing, he at least wasn't going to do it in his human form.

He took a deep breath, and closed the door gently behind him, but didn't lock it. François wasn't too worried that some was going to walk in on him while he was shapeshifting, at least, not enough to lock the door. With a deep breath, he focused on his true self. His whole body started changing; his stance became more and more feral, his face started to look almost like a bird. Paws and talons replaced his feet and hands, and pretty soon, wings followed. A few moments later, François's transformation was complete; he was now a gryphon where once there was a human.

His eyes darted between his laptop and his sketch pad as he sat down at the desk that took up the southern corner of the room. Both seemed appealing, but the gryphon couldn't make up his mind.... Then he heard the knock at the door....

<div align=center>Evan was exhausted. It had been a long day and his classes had given him a headache and a half. He shifted a little, bringing his satchel up on his shoulder a little more. He remembered vaguely being told that he had a new room mate moving in today, Evan had previously been without one for a long time. He supposed it would be a little strange having to adapt to it, if they didn't get in his way he'd be alright. He ran a hand through his hair, his fingers brushing the ivory bone of one of his antlers as he did. He paused as he got to his door, rummaging around in his pockets briefly for his keys. A frown crossed the antlered-boy's face, did I leave my keys in there? He hoped he hadn't dropped them. He knocked lightly on the door, before trying the handle.

The door swung open as he pushed, good. Being locked out was something he didn't want right now. The boy's eyes flickered up, and he froze. What on earth is that? The colour drained from his face, this can't be my new room mate. Instead of finding a person in the room, he found what he could only describe as a gryphon? But it didn't look like the ones he read about in books and fairy tales, instead of the body of a lion, the creature had the body of a fox, and a pair of eyes that the deer boy was just a little afraid to meet. "I.. I... I... Oh my God."</div>

François stared curiously for a moment at the guy who just entered. Antlers weren't normal, but, then again, neither was a Vulpegryph sitting at a desk! With a sigh and quick roll of his eyes, he started talking, hoping that it would put his scared roommate at ease.

"Bonjour, Monsieur. Nous sommes habiter ensemble maintenant, non? Je m'appelle François Lafayette. Et toi? Comment t'appelles tu?" he asked, wondering in earnest if the poor guy even spoke French. Regardless, he extended his talons in a gesture that one could assume was like offering a handshake.

<div align=center>Evan had never been so terrified in his life, was this thing hostile? He had no idea. He backed off a few inches, eyes wide. The colour had drained from his face, and he wasn't entirely sure what to do. Surely they should have discussed with him before putting someone like this in his dorm? Was it a student? His eyes flickered to the window. It was closed. He must be a student. The most likely explanation was that the creature was a shape shifter, Evan had met them in the past, though, they'd been human at the time. "I... Uh.."

What made the whole situation worse was when he started to speak. Evan couldn't believe it. He tried to keep the surprise away from his face. That was rude. Evan couldn't speak French, but he understood it part way, the creature was named François and he had asked Evan's name. "E... E... Evan." He stammered, "my name is.. Is Evan..." He didn't know if he wanted a room mate, especially not this one. Why can't I just have a normal person? He took a breath, and stared at the creature, he'd never, ever seen anything like you. "What... What are you?"</div>

François rolled his eyes. Being in gryphon form wasn't the most conducive way to meet new people, and certainly wasn't a good first impression with new roommates. He sighed and idly flipped his sketchbook to a blank page. He pondered for a moment on what he wanted to say, then picked up his pencil and started drawing.

Add a few lines here, erase a few there, and shade a few things over there. The only sounds in the room for the next few minutes were the scratching of pencil on paper and François's idle humming, When he felt confident that his 'rough sketch' would get his message across, he turned the chair to face his new, albeit terrified, roommate and presented the page.

"Voilá! Parce que je ne parle pas l'anglais, je dessine de façon que tu puisses comprendre moi." he said, handing the sketchbook over to Evan. Hopefully, the picture would clarify a few things.

<div align=center>Evan relaxed when he realized his new room mate probably wasn't going to hurt him. If he was going to eat him, he was absolutely sure that it would have happened by now. I could fight him off. He told himself, these antlers aren't just for show. Evan wasn't in the habit of attacking people, though, and by the looks of it, neither was François. Evan was surprised when the creature started to draw. He couldn't even draw, and he had hands. He supposed talons were similar to hands though, they bent in similar ways, and they could grab things. Like baby deer and rabbits. A voice whispered in his head, and cute little deer boys that like fairy tales.

The drawing clarified a few things, he'd already determined that his new room mate was unable to speak English. He'd drawn him a message, used pictures to get his point across. That was a good idea. Perhaps they could both understand each other that way. Not that I can draw anything. He could try though, at least François was attempting to make an effort to communicate with him. Evan smiled softly, and rubbed the back of his neck. Perhaps he'd end up picking a little bit of French off of him, and perhaps François would pick up bits of English from him over time. "I've never had a room mate before."</div>

François smiled slightly when he saw that his drawing had worked. It wasn't the most efficient or effective form of communication, but it worked. With a slight chuckle, he gently took the sketch book back and put it away in the drawer.

"Eh bien...Pour amuser, j'adore dessiner, et écouter de la musique québécois. De temps en temps, je aussi joue à des jeuxs sur mon ordinateur" he said, opening up his laptop, "Je aussi fais du tir à l'arc quand il fait bon. Quand il pleut, ou il fait mauvais, je regarde la télévision ou dessiner... Et tu? Qu'est-ce que tu fais t'amuser?"

<div align=center>Whatever Francios had just said went right over Evan's head, he stood there, a look of sheer confusion upon his features. "Okay." Was all he said after a moment, more or less completely confused of what to do. Maybe they should have put this kid in with someone that actually spoke the same language as him, or even someone that could translate. All Evan had wanted was a quiet room mate he could talk to when he was lonely, or even better, no one at all. Instead they had given him this strange boy who couldn't speak a word of English. Evan could have sworn they spoke a little bit of English in France, didn't they?

"Do... You... Speak... Any... English?" Evan asked slowly, clearly, in the hope that on the fluke chance of this boy knowing a little bit of English, he might be able to translate points across. All he knew in French was how to ask for ice-cream, and he didn't think that was going to be very useful for their relationship. All he had heard in the other boy's stream of speech was television. He blinked, "I don't.... Have.... A TV...." He returned carefully, Ev had never really been one for watching television, anyhow. He preferred books.

He sat himself down on the corner of the bed, a hand drifting up to untie a piece of string dangling from his antlers with a blackbird's feather hanging from it. He had a drawer of feathers somewhere, and the shelf above his bed was lined with all kinds of different pinecones, something else the deer-boy was in the habit of collecting.</div>

François sighed. Clearly, he'd need more than a picture to get his point across this time. Without saying a word, he flipped open the lid of his laptop, and booted up Call of Duty from his toolbar.

"Désolé, je ne parle que français," he muttered. The only English he ever managed to pick up and remember was the very question Evan had asked him. Without even taking his talons off of the mouse and keyboard, he looked at his roommate.

"Mon ordinateur," he stated, nodding towards the open laptop. If his point wasn't any clearer, François was at a loss.

<div align=center>Evan had absolutely no clue what was going on. But he most certainly knew things were not staying this way. "No." He stated, shaking his head. "Mistake. There has been mistake." He spoke slowly, the way you might speak to a small child. The boy would have to go and sort this out straight away, he was supposed to be on his own, or at least someone that he could actually communicate with. He had never cared about learning another language, and he wasn't about to start. "Wait... Here..." Or leave, that wouldn't be all that sad. He glanced around, picking up his key again and tucking it into his back pocket.

Evan wasn't about to give up his room. He'd made a home in here and he wasn't about to be driven out of it. "I... Will... Be right back..." He slowly edged toward the door, frowning a little, before swinging it open and quickly ducking out of it. It slammed, and the sound of someone running away came shortly afterwards.</div>
