Chloe had double-checked, and everything was in its proper place. Not just in here, but out in government offices too. She had appointments set up to get Izziel registered with the city and with the school, she had paperwork together saying she would take some degree of responsibility for him and all sorts of other promises that didn't necessarily apply here. Everything was copacetic, she was sure.

It was a complex ritual, but not a risky one. Complex because of how far down the totem pole she had to reach, how specific she had to be, and the way she needed to navigate and overcome his master's claims on his time. But hey - nobody was going to try killing her or digging their claws into her mind. So that was nice.

When it was all done, and the candles blew out, and the smoke started to clear, Izziel would hear his first words in this world:

"Lights, Ozzy."

Dim lights filled the room, and Chloe and Izziel would get to see each other in person for the first time. And Chloe was smiling, high on the rush of having pulled this off. "Hey Izzy," She said, looking down at him, pleased with herself.

His appearance surprised her. She broke the ice: "You know, you look... a lot younger and cuter than I was expecting." When they spoke before he came here, Izziel sounded like a jaded office worker. She was expecting him to look 30 or older.

It absolutely went without saying that Izziel was nervous for a not insignificant number of reasons. Item number one: He was soon going to be leaving work, the grueling and miserable existence that he had long ago resigned himself to, possibly for good. Not only that, but he was being taken out of that environment by a woman he had only ever communicated with vocally. Despite how nice she had consistently seemed in their conversations, he naturally couldn't help being paranoid about any number of potential ulterior motives she might have.

Item number two: The other higher up demons he 'associated' with had caught wind of him leaving, and upset that their collective favorite punching bag was going off to the island, they had made his last several days an utter nightmare. He'd gone through eight bodies in those short days alone, and the one he was inhabiting as he finally was summoned was more than a little worse for wear. The sensation of being flung at such an incomprehensibly rapid pace between two places so far apart that it probably couldn't be measured was an overwhelming one to say the least, and the moment the young imp arrived at his destination and got half a good look at Chloe, his first reaction was to expel his (hopefully last ever) ramen cup from an hour earlier straight onto the floor.

Chloe just stood back and stared for a second.

Not only did he look kind of like a kid, he looked like a sick and battered kid. Chloe's maternal instincts were starting to kick in - but something was suppressing them. He had thrown up all over her floor, and she would have to clean that up now, and she was just fed up. She wanted to smack him.

And she knew that was wrong. She didn't think like this, she didn't have feelings like this. He had warned her about his aura.

"I thought you said you were getting something to deal with that aura of yours. I want to be nice to you and make you feel better, and you're making it real hard for me. Ya little shit."

They needed to deal with that first, so she could act normally around him. Then she could properly take care of him. Maybe she still had that pair of fuzzy power nullifying handcuffs somewhere? The idea almost made her laugh.

Wait, no. Damn it. Why did she want to torment him so much? This was his fault. Maybe she should spank him for... No, she shouldn't. Damn it, this was infuriating.

Even after the relatively meager contents of his stomach were empty, the unfortunate imp was left heaving for a moment due to the heavy vertigo. Despite reeling like he was, Chloe's words got through to him quite easily, and he couldn't help but weakly laugh at his own mistake. ". . .I just snagged it on the way...out. Don't know how the fucking thing works.." It took him a good thirty more seconds to finally collect himself before standing on shaky legs, nearly drooping over again and stumbling over to lean his weight on the wall.

"...Summoning sucks. I don't want to do that again...but thank you." He winced, wiping some neon pink blood away from a cut above his eye, slipping the bracelet off and holding it out for Chloe to inspect. "I know the aura is...rough. I'm sorry. And I'm sorry about the floor...I'll clean it up myself if you give me a minute." Izzy coughed hard into his arm, eventually having to slide down the wall to sit back down. Without a doubt, the other demons' 'going away part' had been incredibly rough, the kid shivering the smallest hint.

"What? I'm not going to make you clean it up," Chloe told him. She sounded supremely annoyed - the little shithead must have thought she was a terrible host. Making her sick guest clean up after himself. Ridiculous.

She snatched the bracelet out of his hands to inspect it. Looking over it with a frown, she noted the slider and the rune next to it. Did he really not think to operate the slider?

"Let me try something," Chloe told him. Izziel had not even gotten comfortable yet when Chloe grabbed him by the arm, roughly pulling his entire body up a little bit, just so she could slip the bracelet back on him without needing to kneel down to his level. She pushed the slider into what she assumed would be the 'fully on' position, and...

The effects of the aura started to fade. She could think clearly again.

Very gently, she set him back down. "Shoot. I'm really sorry. It's just, the aura, and... you know already." She took a breath. All those maternal instincts were coming back to the front. Izziel was a hurt child. She didn't know he would be a kid, and it filled her with horror, and she needed to take care of him. "Why do you look so beat up? Do I need to take you to the doctor?" She could probably rush him into a doctor's office if she had to.

Izziel could practically see the change in her eyes, definitely in her face as a whole when the aura faded. It was a look he was entirely unaccustomed to, apologetic and actually worried about him, as her words confirmed. Brushing it off and wincing again from the pull to his already tender arm, he just rolled his shoulders back with a loudly popping shrug. "It's fine...I'm fine. I'm used to this. My supervisors weren't very thrilled to have one of their favorite outlets leaving."

Izzy sighed softly, looking down at his torn up and dirty clothes before giving a disdainful snort. "...Fuckers ruined my one good shirt. I wanted to look presentable for this, but I kind of...yeah. I'm sorry I'm so grungy, and about the floor. I know you're probably stressed out enough having to deal with me in the first place." Rubbing his temple, the imp groaned softly and finally got a look around the room, and the elaborate setup. And the rhino man. "...You know, all things considered, I'm not as freaked out as I figured I might be when I got here. This looks just about normal."

Chloe grimaced. He was definitely not in good shape. He was getting abused, and he just... accepted it. Because it was what he was made for, and what he was accustomed to.

"It's not alright. I'm going to make sure you get cleaned up. Starting with those injuries." Chloe held out her arm and muttered something almost incomprehensible - but Izziel might have been able to realize she was addressing someone. Water poured from the tattoos, and it seemed to move with a mind of its own, like a living thing. When it had all come out, it was waist-high with Chloe.

"Nona, can you heal Izziel for me?"

Though expressionless, the watery blob seemed to ponder its options for a moment, becoming a still, round lump on the floor "Alright," it decided. It had a woman's voice.

Nona would get closer and inspect izziel, pouring bits of herself onto him. The wounds would close, and it would feel soothing, relief. "Hold still, girl," Nona would say.

Izzy couldn't quite hold back a small, breathless laugh at the concern Chloe was showing for him. He looked down at the watery being, a brow quirked, but not moving so that the healing could work properly. "Sorry, it's not exactly funny. Just...an odd feeling. Somebody giving a shit." The kid knew it sounded plenty edgy, but he figured it didn't really matter. It was true that up until this point, he was convinced that never in his life would he get to experience this kind of genuine care.

The surface level damage, mostly to his face and arms, was fast enough to get taken care of. Looking briefly around at the room's inhabitants, he shrugged, moving to peel off the ruined shirt and set it aside to let Nona get at the bruises along his chest and ribs. "Gonna need to get rid of that anyway...also. I'm not a girl." He blinked at Nona, squinting slightly, then peering up to Chloe. "Do I look like a girl by this place's standards?"

They really did a number on him. Chloe felt... angry, all of a sudden. She was thinking about the scale at which Izziel's master was enabling this kind of abuse. It wasn't the worst thing she'd heard about, of course, but it was here. Right in front of her. If only she had the power to do something about it...

Nona answered Izziel's question: "More effeminate than she is." A hand formed on Nona's body, with a thumb aimed at Ozerchabal. Ozzy chuckled.

"Izziel might care more about his pronouns, though." Chloe said. "He's still one of us."

Nona went back to work with a formless shrug.

"You look young, though," Chloe said. "Like I said, younger than I expected. How old are you, Izziel?" It might have just been the fact that he was an imp, making him look all small and young like this.

Whatever healing magic Nona was using on him was definitely helping with the pain, looking better bit by bit. He blinked over at Ozzy momentarily before giving a shrug. "Yeah, I guess that's fair. I'm not exactly the macho type." It wasn't exactly the first time he'd been mistaken for a girl, so it's not like he was that bothered. Chloe's question drew more of his attention, though.

Izzy gave a weak smile, shrugging once more and leaning back while he let Nona finish up the healing. "Fourteen. The whole sounding tired and fed up with the world thing isn't really, uh...yeah. It happens a bit differently there. I started my job when I turned five and left the daycare tower, and haven't stopped until right now." He could see why she probably thought he was older based on what he'd heard about work practices on earth, so it wasn't all that surprising. "Supposed to get one day off a year, but I was only ever able to make good on four of those."
