Madeline was more excited about going to the beach than she had let on. This became abundantly clear during the bus ride over here with Jii; she was almost vibrating with excitement in her two-piece swimsuit. She had never been swimming or sunbathing at a beach before. Plus, it was cool that she was hanging out with an upperclassman. Today was shaping up to be a good day.
The bus finally reached their destination. Once Madeline had flip-flopped her way onto the beach, she needed a moment to pause and appreciate the sight of it all: the way the sunlight bounced off the sand, the pristine clear blue water, the waves. "Gosh, I can't believe I'm living so close to a place like this now. It's so pretty!" She turned to Jii. "Let's go find a place to set up."
She always turned up her southern accent around Jii. Coming to the city, she had felt ashamed of her voice until Jii called it "fancy." It didn't make her sound like a hick or a redneck to Jii, it made her seem fancy! Who would've thought?
