The boy's tail wagged; Qing smiled despite himself. He was normally harsher on his students, but he felt a little bit of him soften at the kid's antics. Besides, he could relax his standards for his dorm kids... his students and his kidlets were two different groups. Something akin to paternal instinct took flight in his chest and fluttered about his being.

"I'm sure they'll be delighted to learn," he said, knowing that Ye Wen in particular had a quiet, but distinct, appreciation for the arts. He didn't know exactly what type she liked, but Sumi's brush and scroll reminded him of olden painting styles; of mountains drawn from watery ink, and characters inscribed into the lengths of the parchment. Qing had a feeling that Wen would like this boy, however loud and exciteable he was.

"..." The teacher paused, given to recollection and memory. "I enjoy music," he said, voice soft, demeanour gentle. His vision blurred as he stared off at a distant point. Wistfulness glimmered in Qing's dark brown eyes. A slow smile spread across his face. "Kid, I don't think you can paint music into a picture."

Because how could mere ink capture the feeling of sweet notes hanging in the air? A picture could speak a thousand words, but no picture moved the god as much as music did.

"But," he said, not unkindly, "You're welcome to try." Perhaps Sumi would take it as a challenge.

Can't paint Music? Well... Qing had a point, but still Sumi stood, took a deep breath and unfurled part of his scroll. Creepily enough, there were a lot of content in there... And the more recent ones were the exposed part, the pictures in classic Sumi-e style and Japanese made it clear it was their conversation, their meeting, all was... Recorded?!

Taking a brush out and licking its tip, he began painting in the empty space in the scroll. The ink would change colors before penetrating the paper's fibers as he desired, and slowly but surely a scene would be imprinted there: A woman with oni horns, and a boy who vaguely looked like Sumi, playing an odaiko together, and above it a Japanese music notation, an old one at that.

"I remember my mother playing this song in my past life. It was called "Eight Rhythms Of Life"."

Qing watched with a languid gaze as Sumi did his painting. He leant back in his chair, chin resting against a hand. He didn't recognise the instrument Sumi had painted -- or perhaps he did, just didn't remember. It had been a long time since he'd seen an instrument like that. The thing about being a Chinese dragon god was that in the mishmash of cultures that followed, dragons had been adopted as gods by the other Asian nations surrounding his original land. And so, he knew a little of those cultures; just not as much as an actual Japanese god.

He read the wording, but glossed over the boy's musical notation. That he couldn't understand; he had a feeling Wen might. Nevertheless, Qing smiled genially at Sumi. "That sounds like a nice piece."

He gently tore the painting off from the scroll, making sure it would have the most clean cut on the edge he could with his hands, giving it to Qing shortly after. "Here, Mr Jiang. You can keep it. One day we might hear this song again and we will know when we do.", why did Sumi sound so certain? He was willing to make an effort to play it by heart.

"Thanks, kid" Qing sighed, taking the scroll from the boy. He stared at it a little longer, then carefully rolled it up with gentle movements. He didn't want to rip or tear the image, and it was basically a gift from one of his kids. He'd never gotten a gift from any of his kids before; this was his first, and while it was in essence a painting of Sumi himself, it was still something he'd treasure.

"You'll know, I suppose," mused the god, setting the scroll onto the coffee table beside him. "Well. If that's all, and you don't want any more food..." Qing's voice trailed off as he gestured to the plate on the table, which still had a few pieces left. "Then I do believe we're done here. I won't hold you back, kiddo. Don't you have homework to do, or something? Or talking to friends?" He wasn't very sure what kids Sumi's age did outside of lessons, and it showed.

"Thanks for the food, Mr Jiang, I am already full. I've done my homework already, but I have a few plans for the day: Practice taiko, paint some scenery, make a call to my brother and experiment some more with magic scroll creation.", making a bow to Qing, he said "Thank you so much, Mr Jiang. This was a pleasant meeting we had.", and if nothing much else were to be talked, he was ready to make his leave.

"Nice to meet you too, Sumi." Said Qing, for formality's sake, "You can go now." Not one to really hang around after his business was completed, Qing got up, stretched, and took his leave.
