If she was being honest, Aswan really did have a lot on her mind these days. A minute to review them.
There was the situation of, of course keeping her grades up, because May had always been something of a sluggish month to her, one better spent thirsting after the comfort of a good book in the summer shade than spent studying yellowed pages of her many textbooks. If she wanted valedictorian in a few years, she had to start now.
Then there was the matter of improving her friendships. Right now, Aswan had perhaps Roland and Raphael to count on if ever she shut herself down into a hermit, only wanting the company of books. Which, if she were again to be honest, she was very close to doing.
Moreover, the issue of her powers... and research to control them. How was she to research an entire species's history without any knowledge, or at the very least, assistance?
Here in the library, she decided, was the best place to think about these things.... after all, with it's soothing smell of old books and comfort, it almost felt like a second home.
It was a bad idea coming here alone, though - alone with her thoughts, with her worries...
Sighing in frustration, Aswan picked up her phone (how she could touch a phone was even up to her best guess, but, she digressed) and deliberated a bit, before finally jabbing the texting app and shooting one to her as-of-now-closest friend Raph.

"helllo. am at library if you want to come study? will be kind of short. will reward with refreshments if necessary."

... Should she invite Roland as well? He never failed to cheer her up... But she had a feeling if she texted him he would get it in about a hundred years, give or take a few. She chuckled at the thought. Besides, her boyfriend always seemed to find her at the best of times, when she really needed it. She had no doubt it would happen again.
In her satisfaction, she forgot to tell Raph Roland would be there.

Roland had been on his way to the library anyways, he'd been sorta off today, a little nervous. He'd gotten news, Tholm, his distant cousin and a ghost would be coming to the island soon to act as his legal guardian.

He slipped into the library, his soft gray eyes looked over the area and found who he was seeking. Aswan, his girlfriend, who he loved dearly.

Smiling he slipped over to her, "hello love," he set his hand beside hers, letting the tips of his fingers touch hers, just enough so she can adjust to the sensation. "I hope I'm not late."

Raphael was uh... in the middle of taking a break. He was at the courtyard on the grassier part; just lying on his back under the cool shade of trees, the dry grass under him and a clutter of hand-outs, notebooks, and a couple of books surrounding him. He liked to think he had a funny study station during exam season (he hated May with a passion for that) but to each their own.

Now where was he? Right! Taking a break from all the studying, his eyes firmly glued to his handheld while he was trying to clear this master-level song for the Nth time. He only vaguely heard his phone ring next to him with it's familiar ping. A text message. He barely got a moment to wonder who could have sent him a message at a time like this before he managed to break his combo from getting distracted.

There was an angry huff when he picked up his phone, but the furrow in his brow lifted when he saw Aswan's name flashing on the screen. He typed a quick response to her: ":O! sure thing. gimme a minute". After hitting send, he didn't waste another moment more to gather his books. Somehow the Horseman still managed to create some semblance of organization when he stuffed them all into his bag. Well, most of them.

He made a bee-line to the library, almost running with his pace. In record time, he found his way to the entrance and already looking for his very adorable, er.. intelligent friend. He walked inside, scanning the study areas with the familiar brightness in his expression, as if all the frustration he had built up from his game was gone. It didn't take him very long to find her but the scene he arrived to had his head titling with some amount of confusion.

Raphael wasn't really that dense not to notice... whatever there was here, so he decided to approach carefully. "Hey, Aswan!" he called, announcing his presence with a leveled voice. He turned his gaze to the other guy for a moment -- not anyone he's met -- before adressing the ghost girl again. "I take it he's with us?"

Roland, as she had predicted, showed first - a sign that at once really contented and puzzled Aswan - how did he find her that easily, that conveniently? But she brushed it off, and nodded, the familiar tingle of contact with the living spreading across her hand. Gently she greeted him. "How did you find me so quickly, love," with a chuckle. "I did not even text you or any measures of the like." Her hand fidgeted with her hair, tugging at it a bit. It was supposed to be just friendly... But she digressed, she supposed.
Across the hall, it took her a bit to see the friend she HAD texted, looking at her with a bright expression - as expected from her friend. Raising her hand delicately, she waved the guy over, grinning a sharp little grin. "Raph! It's good to see you again." Moving her other hand out from under Roland's own, she made a fee gestures with them - namely, pointing to a small stack of books on paranormal occurrences. Then she noticed Raph's head tilt, and her expression became tinged with sheepishness.
"I apologize for the impromptu meeting. I had planned for an individual study session with you, Raph, for assistance in finding a suitable reference point to which to refer in study of my abilities, and I had meant to text you sooner - but a certain mage -" here she turned back around and glared at Roland playfully "- has the tendency to find me in even the library. Again, I apologize. But yes, I suppose he will have to be with us."

Smiling, he gently kissed her, "I was on my way to the library already, wanted to get a few books, so it works out well."

He turned his head as Raph appeared, "hello," he smiled and gave a small bow, "I'm Roland Knightkin, I hope you don't mind. When my lovely girlfriend told me about her study groups, I hoped to join." The young mage was very friendly, he liked people.

He set his bag on a chair, "she's done wonders tutoring me," he gave Aswan one of his charming smiles, he knew shr loved them. "With her in charge, all our grades are likely to improve."

The blond's smile didn't seem to fade away in that moment but anyone with a sharp eye could have noticed that single twitch at the corner of his lip before he spoke. "Oh, psh, no worries, Aswan!" he cheered, as if it hadn't bothered him in the slightest. If he had to be honest, it was... disappointing. He wasn't mad or anything but he did enjoy her presence--and getting to hang around with only her was something he would have preferred.

The Horseman wasn't the sharpest tool in the shed no, but something about the cues they were giving each other clued him in already. If it hadn't, the mage willing provided him the answer of a question he didn't actually ask. Something at the back of his mind was alarming to just leave them alone, but the larger part of him reminded him of the fact that Aswan had called for him. This other guy was just here by coincidence.

Nonetheless, he only smiled, but it didn't quite reach his eyes as they usually do. "Raphael Niccolo.; you might have heard of me during the StuCo elections. I'd guess you were here for that," the words tumbled out of his mouth. He knew he didn't have to say it, but the urge to do so was very strong. "And don't worry about it! I don't mind at all," he lied, "More the merrier, pops always said."

Raphael set his bag down on the chair closest to him. "Oh yeah, Aswan's been a great help. Having council work next to academics kinda messed up my pacing, but she's been really great." He flashed greatful smile towards Aswan before turning back to the mage as he took his seat across from Roland. "So I mean, I'd love to go straight to the studying but I don't think I've heard much about you, mystery boy."

A hand flew to her mouth as she chuckled at the mage's and her friend's kind words. "Well, someone has to make sure you two focus on schoolwork," she laughed in a mock-haughty tone, which instantly lightened some into an approximation of a friendly grin. "Roland... you need to explain to me at some point how you manage to ind me everywhere I go - it really could prove very intriguing." She cleared her throat, silently enjoying the little peck she received, and then looked back at Raph, tilting her head quizzically. "Oh! I did not know you won the Student Council elections - congratulations on your newfound position!" Aswan nodded, her glasses sliding slightly on the bridge of her nose. tracing them back up again, she continued. "Again, I apologize for the impromptu guest. I will allow you two to introduce yourselves- just know that I will be reading until you are done." With that, she knelt down, unzipped her bag, and pulled out what appeared to be a thick.... graphic novel?

He chuckled a little at his girlfriend and gave her a loving smile, he loved her. They worked well together, she had a confidence in her intelligence that he found attractive, and had seen a softer side to her that few had, a side that he also adored.

"Yes congratulations," he said with a smile, "it was interesting watching the elections, they never had such things among the apprentice mages of my home." Home, Avalon had stopped being home some time ago, but he occasionally still referred to it as such.

"Well there's not much to tell, I arrived from Avalon not long ago," he said cheerfully, "came from a family of magic users, so we knew about Manta Carlos." There was more to that, much more, he'd seen war and death, but that wasn't a good subject to talk about at a study session, "heard the academy was an amazing place, so I enrolled."

Roland glanced at his girlfriend's reading material and chuckled a little, "interesting choice love." He leaned in to take a look, "another thing Avalon didn't have, afraid we still relied on plays and books for entertainment."

Raphael gave them a smile at the words of congratulations, but it was just the same as the earlier one that hadn't seemed as bright as before. "Thank you," he said, "Though I wouldn't be in position if the student body hadn't trusted me enough -- after all, I'm just another fresh face. For them to really place their expectations on a newbie is an honor," he added, almost scriptedly, though it didn't occur even to Raphael himself.

Despite what seems to be a subconscious distaste for the extra company, he didn't deny the other boy an ear. He had an equal amount of curiosity for him which had nothing to do with Aswan as much as it actually did.

"Avalon?" he echoed, genuine surprise at the mention of the place. He'd heard of it, many times in fact, and he was on the belief it was nothing but a legend. Then again, all the things he was seeing in Manta Carlos only used to be myth -- himself included. The motion of Aswan pulling a thick book distracted him for a moment, smiling at the simple thought of the ghost girl reading on the side.

Raphael managed to pull himself back into the present before he zoned out. "So. Never thought I'd hear someone call Avalon 'home' my whole life -- then again, I wouldn't have imagine myself in a school like this! It's still hard for me to imagine people just... living this life of magic so casually while there's us who wouldn't have imagined any of this as reality." he mused aloud. "So is Avalon just really kind of... medieval ish? Like currently?"

"Hmm hmm," nodded Aswan distractedly, as she skimmed through the pages of her book. The page she landed on depicted a bookish-looking dark-haired girl (though looking nothing like her). Well-made, but by no means informational. By any usual means,, she would not let anyone see that she read these books, but seeing as it was a meeting with two of her closest peers, she could allow to let it slide.
As far as she could tell from her listen of the conversation, there seemed to be nothing wrong - but then she noticed how robotic, almost scripted, Raphael's speech was, although it was masked well. And while she loved her boyfriend as well, she did feel as if he was being a bit... clingier... than usual. "From what I've heard from Roland, it is quite medieval... and quite interesting. Magical, even. Although, if they do not have visual novels.... well, that's a shame."
She didn't look up from her book.
"As for the Student Council.. they would be quite obtuse not to pick a friendly icon, as they are trying to promote themselves positively, right?"
If she were to be honest.... she needed to have studied a lot more. Her constant extra classes took up much of her time, leaving a little to be desired in the study department. That would be fixed, though, by this meeting.
"If you two are finished with the niceties, I want to thank you for coming as per my request, Raph. I know studying is a bit boring for you, so I am prepared to reward you - both of you - with refreshments afterwards. Perhaps a hot tea, or a muffin? I am prepared to offer chocolate items as well."
