The courtyard has been set up for elections, although the seats are only half full. Any interested candidate is free to book a time to make a speech on the afternoon of the 15th, explaining their position to interested students. While not mandatory for those running, a clear place to state your platform is a huge boon, and the majority of candidates are taking advantage of it.

The small stage has a podium and a few decorations for those wishing to give their speech and tell the school where they stand on academic issues plaguing the island.

(Please only post once in this thread with a character giving a speech. Do not roleplay in this thread outside of speeches. Mind you that a speech doesn't have to be a short post at all. Go wild!)

Elisa took a deep breath. She had to say a speech in front of quite a few students. Nervously, she checked herself in her phone reflection. No one was going to recognise her, right?
As Eli, she didn't have the courage to do it, so if someone told the rest of the school she was actually a boy, Elisa didn't know if she could continue campaigning. At least Tomo didn't tell anyone, and Yukirabelle promised to keep it a secret.

Looking over to the sidelines, she saw a familiar, jovial face. Nigel was waving at her, his regular tie-dye swapped out for a baggy green top. Forcing a smile, she waved back. Elisa hadn’t asked them to be there, but when he saw her trying to write a speech, he helped the only way he could and followed her to the event.

Despite their distance, she could see his lips move, giving a single word. Showtime.

Stepping onto the platform, she cleared her throat and prepared her notes. "Hello, fellow Students of Starlight Academy." She didn't like that opening, it reminded her too much of that Steve Buscemi picture that she had seen on the internet. "My name is, is Elisa Pelham. Some of you know me from your classes. Some of you know me personally." Her eyes darted through the crowd, seeing a few familiar faces.

"I'm here today, running for the privilege of being on the council for everyone here. I will be a voice for the unheard, and a helping hand for those that need it." She took another deep breath. "I have not been here as long as some students, not have I experienced what others may have. I actually woke up a while back without memories of any kind." That was possibly way too much information. Those that had met her last year had a stronger chance of recognising her now.

Hesitating, a tremble in her voice beginning to show, she continued. "Now, that might make me weird and or even unstable, but I like to think that means that I see all of Manta Carlos, and especially Starlight Academy, as my only home. I will do what it takes to make sure it remains the best it could be, and yeah." Her voice trailed off at the end. Elisa had finished her notes a while back, it is only a single page of Motivational quotes Nigel liked. The rest was just for show, to make it seem like she was prepared, another one of Nigel’s ideas. This was all completely improv, so when she ran out of ideas, she just stopped.

Looking around again, this time not at individual faces, but the entire crowd. These were her peers. Her Seniors, Juniors, and her Classmates. Each one of them was freaky in their own way, and it was nice to know that in this big open world, she always had a place here, with them.

"Vote Elisa." She said finally. Her courage had returned, and she smiled brightly, extending a small fist to the air. “I won’t let any of you down. I promise.”

It was a small effort, but she tried her best. Elisa knew she wasn’t as popular as many of the others, and she knew out of those trying for the role, she had the least chance. After all, she was “the new girl”. Eli himself wasn’t that popular, but starting again made it much harder for them. Well, not that much. She seemed to be more outgoing as a female, and had been out with friends many times. People seemed to excuse her social eccentricity more than they did when she was Eli.

Alma was wired as she stepped onto tge stage. This was what she'd been preparing for. And at first, she'd been gunning for president. But if she were being honest? She didn't need thst position to make a difference. And that change in mindset had done wonders for her mental health so far. That, plus the mental health day she was taking halfway though (at Jude's suggestion), would hopefully keep her from having a case of post-elections

She stood behind the podium, wearing her 'Consent is Sexy' t-shirt with her tail wrapped as tightly as was comfortable around her waist. She had her hair tied back into a ponytail and out of her face at the moment, a pencil stuck unceremoniously in the hair tie. She grinned, flashing her fangs to the crowd. "GOOD MORNING, STARLIGHT ACADEMY!" she bellowed, far enough away from the microphone that she didn't blow people's ears out. That had been a mistake she'd seen other candidates make in years prior.

A pause, and then she started into her speech. "You all know me at this point. Alma Malivani, your current student council president. I think we've had a great year so far, on you?" She paused, her ears twitching as she listened for the crowd's response. Positive, great.

"You're probably not surprised in the least, but I'm back and I've got big plans for the future!"

She was getting excited now, her tail uncurling and lashing around her wildly. The energy of the crowd was infectious, and the static in her head urged her ever onward.
"I've been on the warpath ever since I took office last term, organizing and leading the student body of Starlight Academy to a better, more egalitarian future!"
Another pause to let the crowd reflect on the things that had gotten done in the past election cycle. Let them murmur and talk about the things the student council had accomplished in the past few months.

"But I'm not satisfied with what we've done. I'm a Lust Demon, and I want more! We have so much more work to do, and frankly we need the steam to keep rolling." A cheer rose up. Not a unanimous one, but good nonetheless. Her grin widened.

"I've already been working with Chloe Black and the DSU on a series of seminars to help with the perilous and confusing world of online dating and hookup apps. So be on the lookout for that. No matter what, I'm going to keep pressing ahead to make this island as close to a Utopia as we can get! This is the only home we've got on this Earth, so we owe it to ourselves and to future generations to make it the best we possibly can!"

Another pause, another cheer. Alma leaned hard against the podium, raising her clenched fist high into the air above her head. She was feeling it. The energy of the crowd. It made her head swim and she took a step back from the podium, raising her voice so the mic could still pick her up.

"If you'll have me, I'll do my utmost to fight for each of you. Vote for the one who will fight fang and claw! Vote Alma Malivani for student council!"

Taking a long, slow breath, Alma raised both hands above her head as the applause started. She felt good. No, she felt great. This was her element, and her teeth were sharpened. Alma stepped off of the stage to let someone else go. She'd stick around for a little bit and listen to the other speeches, but she had work to do.

Watching Alma give her speech from behind the stage, Liliana clapped along with everyone in the school auditorium. It had, in fact, been a very good and quite inspiring speech. Walking out when it was her turn, almost gliding out, to the podium with quiet air of confidence, the very pretty redheaded pyschopomp, stood back and just let the crowd calm down naturally, until the audience, with open curiosity, watched her standing there watching them - just waiting.

Once she had everyone’s attention, Liliana finally stepped forward calmly to the podium, “Good afternoon, students and staff members. My name is Liliana, and as you can easily guess, I'm running for student council president.” she said calmly and very deliberately meeting the gazes of those in front of her with a friendly and welcoming smile.

“I'll try to keep this as short as I possibly can.” she began, adjusting the microphone a little as she looked out over the crowd, recognising a good number of the people, and grinning when somebody, her friend Lial maybe, called out her name loudly from the back row, telling her to go for it.

“Most of you know me or have at least seen me around the school at one time or another. I have been at Starlight Academy for a long time, almost ten years now, and I have seen what this amazingly special school needs and to how change things to fit those needs.” She stated rather passionately as she scanned the room, taking in everybody in front of her, smiling at a few friends from her class when they smiled up encouragingly at her.

“Are you tired of doing the same old things year after year? Are you ready to do something new, something different?” she asked the crowd, her friends, her fellow schoolmates.

“Did anyone ever ask you what you actually wanted to do for a fundraiser? Did anyone ever ask you what you really wanted to buy with the money that we raised? And more importantly - Who makes these decisions? The school, the teachers, the students, who?” she asked the room calmly, hearing students twitter and whisper among themselves.

“Those types of decisions are often, if not entirely, left up to the student council, its members and its president. Those are the people that you will choose to represent you, your classmates, and the school. Do you want to elect someone who will make those decisions for you, without knowing what you want?” she asked seriously, lowering her voice. “Or do you want to elect somebody who actually cares, somebody who listens, respects your opinions, and somebody who wants the best for you and this amazing school?” Liliana stated, her voice now stronger, more impassioned.

“If you vote for me as student council president, I will promise to always ask for your opinions before making any decisions. You should and will have a say in the actions that will affect you.”

“Every single one of you can come to me with your ideas, and I promise to listen and speak for you.” Liliana said as her gaze landed on student after student, “You matter. Your opinion matters. Don't choose someone who will make all of the important decisions for you. Don't vote for the someone who will choose whatever their friends want them to choose. Choose someone who wants to be your spokesperson. Choose someone who cares about what you want. Choose me, Liliana, for your student council president.” she declared, finishing her speech, her heart racing, and taking a tiny step back from the podium as the whole room erupted in applause.

Jude wasn't sure if he was ready. Really, he wasn't sure if he wanted to be on the council. The last week--the last two weeks, if he was being honest with himself--had been a lot. Everything that happened at Woodland Imports. Everything with Gil. Everything with Rory. It was a lot, and if he was being honest with himself, he was running on fumes.

He'd gone from wanting to be on council, to not wanting to be on council, to not wanting to be on council again.

He still didn't know, even as he waited for Liliana to come off the stage. Even as the organizer waved him up, Jude didn't know. Not really. He had his speech ready--he'd written it out and memorized it by virtue of his powers--but he didn't know.

Instead, he winged it, getting up on stage and simply speaking what came to mind.

"I think you've all probably seen enough speeches to know what to expect," Jude said. "That I'll get up here and tell you a platform, and give you a bunch of catchy phrases to remind you to vote for me. But I think I'm going to do something a bit different, because I'm kind of a different candidate. My name is Jude Genovese. I don't want to be the president, or the vice president. What I'm looking for is a chance to use my skills to contribute to the student council. I have a perfect memory. I no longer require sleep. I have time to spare, and I'm hoping to use that time to help the school."

He paused there, his brain trying to process. His brain trying to come up with anything.

And then he decided that was enough. He didn't have the energy for the rest. So instead he gave a small bow of his head and signed off.

"Thanks for listening to my speech, and I hope the rest of your day was good."

And then he was off, back into the wings to let the next person go.

Yasmin changed her mind at the last minute. That wasn't her way of doing things at all, and yet, repeatedly she showed herself to be indecisive. At least, that's how she viewed herself. Her group of friends who encouraged her to participate disagreed. And considering her desire to become a politician, she wanted to show herself to be strong and capable from a young age. This had to be the right thing to do.

And so that's how she was up here. Looking down at a crowd awaiting her speech. And she felt amazing. She could do this. No one was going to stop her, and even if she failed, she was going to come back again and again.

"My name is Yasmin Naaji, and I hope to be part of your the student council. I've been a student here for my entire life. I've been on this island my entire life. And since I could remember, I've always dreamed big for some kind of change. You most likely know me as the girl, or snake, who interns at Theia, regularly helps people at school and in the city, or most recently, the one who is loud about wanting to bring down the Veil. I won't hide my opinion on that stance, and I won't hide that most of what I do is to give the inhuman here more exposure. Starlight Academy has shown great dedication at accommodating students of all species, but when it comes to those without a humanoid shape, there is still a great stigma. I hope to give a voice to the inhuman students here and lessen that stigma. No one should feel alone in their struggles, and while we may be a minority, we still deserve to be heard. I hope my place in this council will be that voice."

Somehow, during maybe the second or third sentence of her speech, Yasmin had blacked out. And when she finished, she came back to see the crowd staring up at her expectantly as her heart tried to leave her chest. She wished she was truly there for most of what she said, but it must have been good, because she had a big goofy smile as she said, "I appreciate you all for listening to my speech, and I hope I earned your votes with my speech."

Then, she slithered off stage, hoping she didn't fall over from the dizzying adrenaline rush she was experiencing.
