Elisa took a deep breath. She had to say a speech in front of quite a few students. Nervously, she checked herself in her phone reflection. No one was going to recognise her, right?
As Eli, she didn't have the courage to do it, so if someone told the rest of the school she was actually a boy, Elisa didn't know if she could continue campaigning. At least Tomo didn't tell anyone, and Yukirabelle promised to keep it a secret.
Looking over to the sidelines, she saw a familiar, jovial face. Nigel was waving at her, his regular tie-dye swapped out for a baggy green top. Forcing a smile, she waved back. Elisa hadn’t asked them to be there, but when he saw her trying to write a speech, he helped the only way he could and followed her to the event.
Despite their distance, she could see his lips move, giving a single word.
Showtime.
Stepping onto the platform, she cleared her throat and prepared her notes.
"Hello, fellow Students of Starlight Academy." She didn't like that opening, it reminded her too much of that Steve Buscemi picture that she had seen on the internet.
"My name is, is Elisa Pelham. Some of you know me from your classes. Some of you know me personally." Her eyes darted through the crowd, seeing a few familiar faces.
"I'm here today, running for the privilege of being on the council for everyone here. I will be a voice for the unheard, and a helping hand for those that need it." She took another deep breath.
"I have not been here as long as some students, not have I experienced what others may have. I actually woke up a while back without memories of any kind." That was possibly way too much information. Those that had met her last year had a stronger chance of recognising her now.
Hesitating, a tremble in her voice beginning to show, she continued.
"Now, that might make me weird and or even unstable, but I like to think that means that I see all of Manta Carlos, and especially Starlight Academy, as my only home. I will do what it takes to make sure it remains the best it could be, and yeah." Her voice trailed off at the end. Elisa had finished her notes a while back, it is only a single page of Motivational quotes Nigel liked. The rest was just for show, to make it seem like she was prepared, another one of Nigel’s ideas. This was all completely improv, so when she ran out of ideas, she just stopped.
Looking around again, this time not at individual faces, but the entire crowd. These were her peers. Her Seniors, Juniors, and her Classmates. Each one of them was freaky in their own way, and it was nice to know that in this big open world, she always had a place here, with them.
"Vote Elisa." She said finally. Her courage had returned, and she smiled brightly, extending a small fist to the air.
“I won’t let any of you down. I promise.”
It was a small effort, but she tried her best. Elisa knew she wasn’t as popular as many of the others, and she knew out of those trying for the role, she had the least chance. After all, she was “the new girl”. Eli himself wasn’t that popular, but starting again made it much harder for them. Well, not that much. She seemed to be more outgoing as a female, and had been out with friends many times. People seemed to excuse her social eccentricity more than they did when she was Eli.
