Struggling

Iain was at the table, brow furrowed, books everywhere. He was doing English homework, and was stuck. Pulling yet another book out of his back, he began looking through this one. He had been reading, and had come across a new word. He had looked it up, but it did not explain it for him. As he looked through this book, no-one else would have been able to read it. It was written in Solon, the language of his planet.

Checking back on the word, he puzzled at its meaning. The only definition he had found was thus: Orange: the color orange. This was not sufficient for him, however, as Iain had no idea what orange would look like. Flipping the page of his book, he found nothing. Continuing to look through the book, he sighed as his search yielded no results.

Elva walked over to a table where a guy was doing homework and and sat down. She wasn't in a talking mood, which wasn't saying much because she usually wasn't. But she was kind of bored, and there weren't many other people in the lounge, or anywhere else, for that matter. Starlight Academy had made her want people to talk to her, or have someone to talk to. She hadn't been like this at home. She kept to herself and rarely left her room.

The boy across from her seemed to be stuck on something. Elva was pretty smart, she could probably help. She pulled a book out of her backpack and started reading it, but didn't say anything, not even a greeting of "hello."

Iain looked up as someone sat at his table. She looked like a normal human, so maybe he should ask her. Then he could program it into his computer. His computer! What an idiot he'd been. Why didn't he just type it into his computer? Oh well. Might as well ask her now. He thought, pulling it out of his bag.
"Hello!" Exclaimed Iain, in his usual happy voice. At first all that was heard was an odd noise, the language of his planet. But then the translator kicked in, and the message was replayed in English. "I am Iain White! Might you help me with this word?" He asked, showing her the word.

Elva blinked a few times and set her book down. "I'm Elva." She leaned over to see the word, and tried hard not to laugh. "That's orange," she said. She pointed to the orange cover of her book. "This color. It can be lighter, or darker, too." She'd never met someone who didn't know what orange was. "Er... I guess you're not from... around here?" she said, but it came out more like a question.

Iain nodded. He wrote down the color and what it meant in his book. He also drew a little orange patch. When she asked a question he looked up once more. Smiling, he gave his answer.
"No, I am not." He said, his translator kicking in after a few seconds. "I come from Solo. Solo is a planet in the galaxy of Polk."

"Hmm." Elva said, wondering where Polk was. "I'm from... here, I guess." She picked up her book, and kept reading. Iain was pretty friendly, even if he was from Solo... wherever that was.

((ooc: Sorry so short, I couldn't think of anything!!!!))
