Shujinko had the day off from work. But not for a particularly good reason. As he limped into the police station, nursing a swollen eye and scratched elbows, he sighed as he remembered the incident. He had been riding his bike from his apartment to the Flying Saucer Express where he worked, like he did nearly every day. It was a pretty uneventful bike ride, until he stopped at a crosswalk while the light was red.

There, some girl had taken a liking to Shuji and started flirting with him. This wouldn't have been too strange or terrible of an event, at least not for Shuji, except that her boyfriend happened to be standing beside her. Shuji was trapped at the street corner, because he couldn't afford to take another route and be late to work. So the girl just kept it up, and the next thing Shuji knew, he was lying on the pavement, his head spinning from the sucker punch to the face he had taken.

He had made it to the store late and with a dirty uniform and a bruised face. The manager, who usually didn't seem to like him all that much, took pit on poor Shuji and gave him the day off as an early vacation day, but only on the condition that he go to the police and report the incident. So here Shuji was, standing in the main lobby of the police station looking rather lost. Everyone seemed pretty busy, and he didn't want to interrupt any important work.

Slowly, as he stood there several people, police officers and civilians alike, began to stop and stare at him as if transfixed. Shuji stood awkwardly, trying to make himself shrink as he worried that the same thing was about to happen again.

After SpaceCon, it was the same old, same old for Felix. He slept early Monday and clocked in Tuesday morning, only a little bit groggy. He got himself a coffee and got to work on sorting out the load above his desk. A few reports here, a few cases there. He'd take a better look of the cases after he finished his reports. He spent a few grueling hours typing them out on his computer before his stomach started rumbling, and he left his desk to go to the vending machine at the main lobby.

It didn't take him long to notice there was a sort of hold-up at the hall. Felix gave a few funny looks before he saw the epicenter of the attraction. He remembered telling Tabby about what happened with the guy at flying saucer. If I tell the weebs back in America that anime is real in Manta Carlos, they'd lose their shit.

Felix was familiar with magic. But just because he was familiar, didn't mean he could control it. He stood there, transfixed like the rest of them, heart racing and palms just a little bit sweaty. It's fake! It's fake! He reminded himself, over and over. Sure, he knew it was fake. But it felt real. There was a part in his stomach, a dreaded, uncomfortable thought, that told him that he didn't care if it was fake, that he needed to feel like this. Real things hurt, but fake things were always sweet. The glow of Akiila's pink love potion hovered above his mind.

Unlike the others, he stepped forward and approached Shuji with a smile. His fingers were twitching, nervous, but he was still being pulled in. It felt so good.

"Mr. Nishimura," he greeted him, a smile on his face. "I have the strangest suspicion that you didn't come here for me. Maybe it's the black eye? Hm. Are you here to file a police report?"

Shuji shuffled in place uncomfortably as so many eyes fell upon him. He didn't know who to talk to really, or what he was even supposed to do when he talked to someone. He had never been to a police station, let alone ever filed an official complaint against someone. Maybe I should just leave. I mean, it was just a bike. It was then that movement caught his attention, and he turned to see Felix approaching, a warm smile on the police officer's face. Shuji felt his tension ease up somewhat, and he returned with his own halfhearted smile.
He took a quick look at the nameplate that Felix was wearing, seeing the name Verma on it, and nodded. "A-ah, Verma-san. It's so good to see you again, all things considered."

He fidgeted slightly as Felix asked him if he was here to file a report, rubbing the scraped skin on his arm. "Well, yes. I mean, my manager told me to come and file a report. But I came here because I figured that you might be here, Verma-san. You were so nice at the convention, I figured I might be more comfortable talking to you. Ah, but I understand if you're too busy. You're a detective, right? I'm sure you've got a lot more important cases to deal with than my simple problems." Shuji felt bad for coming already, wasting someone else's time with what, to him, wasn't a really big issue. He could probably find a new bike for cheap, and it wasn't like he was seriously injured.

Oh. He remembered. He was surprised! He felt fuzzy about that. "It's good to see you too. Unfortunate I keep seeing you in a bad state, huh?"

Him in particular? Well, that was really sweet. He blushed, laughing a bit nervously. Felix really didn't think of anything after their initial meeting, and he certainly wouldn't think anything of this as soon as Shuji was gone, but it was hard to ignore the fluttering in his stomach right then.

"Ah... really?" He blushed and look away, coughing into his hand and clearing his throat. "Oh, that was nothing. Everyone deserves a little kindness. And, you know, it's my job to take reports. Even if you think your problem is simple now, simple problems can often escalate to bigger things later on. I believe it's everyone's civic duty to help maintain peace in the city. You're just doing your job as a citizen."

He smiled and gestured for Shuji to follow him back to his desk. It wasn't a long walk. He made a gesture for Shuji to sit down on the chair across his table before sitting down himself, taking his pen and a police report file from one of his folders. He wrote down Shuji's name. "Age, Civil Status, and Occupation first, please. And then tell me everything you remember of the incident. Be as thorough as possible."

Shuji smiled at Felix's comment about them meeting under bad circumstances. That was pretty much the story of his life; bad or awkward meetings and ludicrous situations.

Shuji gave an awkward chuckle and shuffled his feet along behind Felix, his hesitation about reporting the incident quelled by the detective's insistence that he was doing a good thing. But his worry only grew as he considered what Felix said about a situation escalating. He wasn't worried about himself so much; he had always been good at getting out of tough spots. Well, usually. But what if that guy took his anger out on the girlfriend? Shuji wouldn't be able to forgive himself in that case.

So lost in his own worry, Shuji barely registered that he was sitting across from Felix at a desk until the detective addressed him again. Blinking out of his introspection, he rubbed the back of his neck and offered a small, embarrassed smile.
"Ah, sorry Verma-san. I was just thinking about what you said about a situation escalating. Oh, but yes. Ah. Shujinkō Nishimura, age twenty-seven. I work front of house and deliveries for Flying Saucer Express."

He hesitated at the question he had skipped, his face turning a bit red. "Ah... Civil status? I'm, um, single." Why are you blushing, idiot? Plenty of people are single. It's not that special of a thing.

Felix wrote down the information he gave him. Name, age, civil status, and job. It was all important just in case they needed patterns. He tapped his pen on the page, looking up at Shujinko's blushing face. He felt his own face flush. He smiled softly, tucking strands of hair behind his ear.

"Single, hm? That's surprising. One would think a man as sweet and handsome as you would be taken already." He looked around, wondering if anyone was listening, and winked. "That's my professional opinion, of course. If you wanted my personal one, that comes after work. Now, then..."

Felix straightened his back. "Can you give me the time, date and place of the incident? What exactly happened?" He gestured to the bruises, eyebrows furrowed.

Shuji felt his face turn bright red as Felix winked and made the comments about Shuji's single status. He squirmed in his seat and looked at the floor. Was it happening again?
"A-ah, you think so? I mean, I don't think I'm anything special..."

When Felix asked for the incident, Shuji took a long, slow breath and started relating the story. He barely remembered what the man looked like, but he couldn't forget the girl's face. She had been up in his face pretty close, after all. The sucker punch and falling over, the bike being stolen and the couple running away, and the slow trudge to his place of work. All that Shuji could recall, he mentioned.
"... and my manager said that I could have a couple of days' paid time off early if I came and filed a police report. So... here I am." He rubbed the back of his neck, his face pressed into an apologetic smile. He still felt like he was wasting the police's time, and now he was even wasting Felix's time with something so trivial.

Felix cocked an eyebrow, leaning forward and resting his chin on the back of his hand. "Too much? I'll tone it down, I apologize. I am at work, after all."

As soon as Shujinko started explaining what happened, Felix wrote it all down but still paid close attention to him — the way his lips moved, how his voice sounded so nice in his ears.Felix was stiff, feeling like his whole body was exposed somehow, face flushing and tucking a lock of hair behind his ear coyly. Thank god for his dark skin.

"Ah." Felix nodded. He filled up the rest of the form. "I think... you're the sort of person that thinks you just wasted my time. But this is, in fact, very helpful. Thank you for the report, Mr. Nishimura. Too many incidents go unreported. I'll file this in later, look over with what we have." He tapped his pen on his lips, looking him over. He nibbled at the end a bit. "If you don't mind, I'd like to escort you out. I have... a question I wanted to ask you."

Shuji blinked and offered am awkward, apologetic smile to Felix when the officer mentioned his feelings about wasting other's time. "I guess I'm an open book, huh, Verma-san? You must be a really great detective.
But, thank you for listening anyway. I do feel a bit better about the whole situation after talking about it."

"Oh, and you can call me Shuji. No need to be so formal with me. I'm just a delivery guy."

When Felix mentioned a question that he had for him, Shuji nodded enthusiastically. He might not know the answer, but Shuji definitely wanted to try and do something to repay Felix for helping him. He stood up, holding the door open so that the two of them could leave.
"Of course, Verma-san. Ask whatever you like."

"Shuji... Alright, Shuji." Felix nodded. "Then you can call me Felix. Ah... call me Officer in the Station, of course."

Felix was quiet as they exited the Station, not awkward, but just contemplative. His stomach was raging, turning, and churning. Was he really going to do this? Yes, yes, he supposed he was. With the man's powers, it was normal to be turned off by him as soon as they stopped being exposed, but not Felix. He wasn't his type, no. But there was a part of him that yearned for something simple. In this way, he'd never fall out of love. Maybe that was a selfish reason to be with someone. Who knew?

He just didn't want to be alone.

As soon as sunshine hit his face, Felix did a quick scan of the surroundings before turning back to Shuji. He smiled at him. "Shuji... The reason I wanted to talk to you outside was because I didn't want to be unprofessional inside the station." He bit his lip, looking away, face flushed. "I... You said you were single. Would you like to go out? ...On a date, I mean. I-it's kind of a forward request, and I know I'm not really anyone special, but... It would make me very happy if you will. I'll make sure to treat you right." He gave him a quick bow.
