He'd known that at some point, one of the kitties would notice him. There was no hiding it without hiding himself, and he had no intention of doing that. He was on the island with every intention of being himself, and he wasn't going to let a stray cat ruin it.

So he'd planned for that.

Tieragoran lead the pair out of the community center, keeping his pace brisk as he headed out in front. Sprinkles had never met him, but Natsuki certainly had, and it was really a matter of time before they figured it out.

"I got the impression you had something to say that you didn't want to in the center?" He called out, finally coming to a stop as he turned to look at the pair. It was mostly to Sprinkles, but who knew? Maybe the defect would surprise him.

Sprinkles didn't find the large man weird at first, but it seemed the more they spoke, the weirder things got. It was like he knew Sprinkles when they most certainly never met. And then, Natsuki acted like he was familiar. That's when Sprinkles knew for sure something suspicious was up.

"About my purpose? People don't take the idea of me wanting to be a servant or go back to 'slavery' kindly. It's better for me to keep that to myself. You could see that with Chloe and Garrett." He gave a sharp glance at Natsuki, waiting to be told he was wrong or something like that. Sprinkles could accept Natsuki going against her purpose, but he wouldn't accept being criticized for trying to return to the path chosen for him.

Natsuki had followed rather close behind Sprinkles after they had left, her tail swishing in moderate agitation while they walked. She wasn't entirely sure who this person was, or why she felt like she recognized some kind of demon, but that sinking feeling of dread in the pit of her stomach was unmistakable. There was no two ways about it, she had an extremely bad feeling about this.

Natsuki payed very close attention to Tieragoran's mannerisms and body language while he spoke, as well as his tone of voice. Maybe more than anything else it was his voice that had called her attention to him. Then, when Sprinkles spoke, she tensed up even more than she already had been, meeting his glance and furrowing her brow. Sprinkles hadn't been too subtle thus far about how he had enjoyed his former life, and while she had plenty to say from her perspective, she chose not to speak yet and see how this continued to play out.

"No, people don't," Tier said, very much, in that moment, the picture of support. Because wasn't that what he was here to do? To support? To offer help? No one was letting the nek0 fulfill their purpose. Everyone was just trying to cram them into a human mindset. They weren't human. They'd never be human. They'd been made with a purpose, and denying it was only going to hurt them in the long run.

"I meant it when I said that people on the island are judgmental. They see only one way to live--as a human. Everyone else gets crammed into that mold and told to conform." He was keeping his focus on sprinkles. "They'll talk about choice, but when they say choice, what they mean is 'choose to behave like a human'."

Having someone understand felt amazing. It was hard to put into words. A weight was lifted from Sprinkles' chest. He felt light. Any moment now he could float off, simply because someone, for once, supported him while knowing most of his story.

"That's how I feel, more or less. I know I'm not really human, but I'm more human than a lot of people here. I belong with humans. I'm just... a type of human who was made to serve humans. Something like that. That's why I want to leave and return to my owner."

Sprinkles ended up letting himself get carried away with his words and failed to consider how Natsuki felt. He gave an apologetic glance to her, hoping he didn't bring up any bad memories for her.. "Um, didn't you have some stuff you wanted to ask him, Natsuki?"

Natsuki felt lost in this moment. In normal circumstances, she tried as hard as she could to mask her negative emotions to avoid upsetting anybody. In this case it was especially hard, because Sprinkles was essentially the closest friend she'd made here, and he clearly had vastly different feelings on their entire situation. The way that Tier spoke, however, felt...off, his readiness to side with what Sprinkles wanted to hear all too convenient. She made eye contact with Sprinkles when he looked back, pausing and shaking her head. Holding in her feelings on this just wasn't going to happen.

"...That's just such bullshit." Natsuki was scowling now, staring up at the demon. "You talk about the opportunities we're being given like it's a prison sentence. You think our lives before were all sunshine and fucking rainbows?" Relaxing only slightly after her initial, angry retort, she looked briefly back to Sprinkles, and then to Tieragoran. "Some of us may have had really nice lives, and I respect that. A lot of us, maybe even most of us, lived in our own personal hells. You don't have the right to talk about any of this like you know how it was."

The two sides, weren't they? The opposite ends. Some NEK0s embraced what they were. Some... less so.

Tieragoran shook his head just the same, the picture of a disappointed parent.

"Everyone has their own circumstances. Why should you be happier here, surrounded by things that would devour you? This island is an island of predators. Of people who eat flesh and break souls. Even the most friendly are just dangerous things in the guise of a human. Dragons and fae and who knows what. But I can hardly hold it against them, can I? Everyone was made for a reason. Everyone has a purpose. Humans live human lives. Dragons live dragon lives. And it's the same for the two of you."

Sprinkles' moment of feeling floaty came crashing down to see that Natsuki had a much stronger opinion on all of this than he thought. It took him a bit to figure out what to stay. He felt hurt... and a bit disgusted. Natsuki didn't say anything particularly wrong, but it was like she threw him under the bus.

"He... has a point. You're free to do what you want here, but the island is still dangerous. I've heard about things going awfully wrong here. The ice spire, monsters coming from a portal, a maze that trapped people to be used as sacrifices. And almost everyone here seems to be a fighter or are bloodthirsty. This place isn't good for us."

Natsuki stood in shock as Tier went on about the dangers of the island, but all that barely registered in comparison to the way he framed their lives as being one with a specific purpose. His words rang dully in her ears, and hearing Sprinkles agree almost made her feel sick to her stomach. She couldn't help feeling that her friend had been deluded, that he genuinely didn't understand just how bad it really was for so many of the others, but it wasn't exactly like she could judge him for that. Before Azuma let her get taken away, she may have felt the same.

No. What Tier was saying was just so horribly, blatantly wrong. What she had seen, heard, had to do...that couldn't be anyone's purpose. Steeling herself despite her terror at speaking out this way, she moved closer to Tier, looking defiantly up at him even while she was trembling. "I would rather fucking die than go back to that life. I'd sooner let any one of the crazy fairy tale things running around here do their worst to me, and I'm willing to bet I'm not alone in feeling that way. If you can call that a purpose, what those of us who weren't treated like people had to live through, then frankly I think you're out of your mind."

Tier would have said he had Sprinkles eating out of the palm of his hand, but the truth was that he'd always had Sprinkles eating out of the palm of his hand. Sprinkles was a happy NEK0, compliant and willing to oblige. They'd had a single owner, and that owner had spoiled them, and now they had a particularly rosy view of things.

Not so much with the defect. Really, they'd been lucky to get an owner at all, let alone one who spoiled them.

"That's what you were made for," Tieragoran pointed out, as casual as could be. "But if you reject it, so be it. But it's why you are everything you are. It's why you're omnilingual. It's why you don't need sleep. It's why you're easy to feed. Why you have higher endurance. All these things are so you can be good at your purpose, and you're rejecting it outright."

Had he tipped his hand too much? Maybe. But he'd always planned to tell them the truth.

"Right now you're here and happy because you're getting to play at being human, but you aren't. You're intended to be preyed upon. That's why you're so weak. And while people are happy with you now, it's only a matter of time before they start getting angry with you."

Ah, crap. Wasn't there something the defect liked to do? Not that they'd been allowed to keep hobbies while in the trading post being rented out, but there had been something, hadn't there?

"You think you're good at something, don't you?" Tier said, lowering himself slightly to be more on Natsuki's level. "You think you're amazing at it. You think it gives you value."
