Staring at the sea.

Noah's eyes locked with hers, but he could only keep them there for a few seconds before he broke his gaze, turned away. "A year ago.. My sister got hit by a car." He leaned against the rocky cliff, remembering. "I didn't know what was happening.. I didn't know what would happen if i didn't stop." He fell silent, glancing back at her quickly before looking away again, acting as if it wasn't a big deal. "Hear there's a dance coming up. The tenth, yeah?" He grinned weakly, playing with his cane. "Doesn't sound like it happens often, seeing how excited everyone's getting."

"I'm sorry. About your sister." A weak grin crossed her face and all of a sudden she regretted asking the question. It hadn't been her business, but she couldn't help but open her large mouth. "Hear there's a dance coming up. The tenth, yeah?" She chuckled and sighed. "It does seem to be exciting, doesn't it. A bit exaggerated on the part of the female sex." She rolled her eyes and laughed. "It'll be a good time to social, though..." Her voice wavered off. She hadn't been planning to go, since dances were never her type of event. She had always found it to be too bright and happy. Overrated. "Are you going?"

Noah laughed. "I don't know which i find more annoying - all the girls running around, squeaking and buying dresses, or all the guys going 'I don't care 'bout no stupid dance!' while secretly plotting ways to ask their crush.." He paused for a second, thinking about it.
"Are you going?"
Another laugh, and he nodded. "Oh, of course i'm going! I wouldn't miss it for the world!" He picked up his cane, twirling it pointedly. "I'm sure my dancing capabilities will astound and amaze everyone there." He rolled his eyes, dropping the bright-eyed teenager voice. "Honestly, the only reason i'd go was to play the pity card - which actually works pretty well, surprisingly enough - so i doubt i'll be there." He looked over at her, raising his eyebrows suggestively. "What of you? I'm somehow guessing you're not exactly one of the giggling, dress-buying masses, but it's hard to imagine you haven't already been asked."

She threw her head back and laughed. There had never been one person who could make her laugh this much. Until now. And it wasn't until now she knew how good it felt to laugh, to have her shoulders shake and tears well up at the corners of her eyes. "They're all pathetic, really. Nothing better on their hands to do." Shrugging her shoulders she laughed again as he twirled his cane. "You could be a hotshot at the dance. You never know." She kept a straight face but her eyes danced with laughter.

"What of you? I'm somehow guessing you're not exactly one of the giggling, dress-buying masses, but it's hard to imagine you haven't already been asked." She shook her head and chuckled. "I guess your imagination isn't that great then." Standing tall and setting her hand palm down on the side of her abdomen, as if playing the role of Napolean, she said, "No horendously idiotic guy who spends hours comparing his muscles with others has invited me to the dance." She relaxed and dropped her arm at her side. "Thankfully."

Noah laughed at her little speech, tying his hair back so it would stop blowing in front of his face. "Well, that's 'cause they know that all girls love the intelligent, shy, and half crippled guys." He raised his eyebrows suggestively, looking around as if he expected a couple dozen girls to come swarming in along with his announcement. After a few minutes, he rolled his eyes, turning his attention back to Solace. "In a perfect world, that would have worked. So what, did you ask them all first?"

She smiled and winked at his comment. "Of course. They're just downright handsome." She chuckled, her fingers fiddling with the hem of her shirt. Shaking her head with an almost dejected look on her face she added, "I had plans from the start to not go. It's just too..." In the haste to find the right word she stumbled over a few letters and finally spit out a "fluffy". Too fluffy? What was she thinking?

Shrugging her shoulders she looked back to him. "We all wish we could live in that perfect world, huh."
