Ossa was the smallest of her siblings, that was certain. And that only made it scarier when someone bigger than them tried to talk to her. Mama had brought her to visit Amber's other mom, and hadn't let her stay in the little silk web hammock she usually made beneath mama's abdomen to hide. So naturally, at the first opportunity, Ossa ran off into the house and hid in the first dark empty room she could find.

Eventually Chloe had to go looking for her. She had other people to help with the food preparation - the 'family dinner' they had going on was catered. The food was all ready. Chloe's plan was for all of them to hang out and chat while they waited for everyone to show up, so Ossa's decision to run and hide was... tolerated, if a little upsetting for Chloe.

Now the time for their meal was drawing near, and Ossa was still hiding. Chloe decided that she should be the one to retrieve her. She knew the layout of the house better, and she could sense other demons, so it would be trivial to find her.

She felt Ossa's presence near the home theater room. She opened the door and poked her head in, finding the lights off.

"...Ossa?" Chloe said. "Why are you hiding from us? We all just want to visit with you."

Six purple eyes peeked out at Chloe from the darkness, quickly covered up by a white blanket. Ossa skittered up against the wall next to the door, staring up at her aunt with the fearful wide eyes of a shy child. Her arms were tightly wrapped around the little plastic scythe she always had with her.

Chloe was a very tall person, with a very strange appearance. Mama and Amber always said that she could be safe with Chloe and Malara and all of mama's other friends but they were all so scary. The tiny spiderling couldn't even work up the courage to talk to them.

Chloe smirked when she saw Ossa hiding under a blanket. Did she come in with that blanket? She tried to hold back her giggles.

"Why are you under a blanket? You're such a cutie!" She remembered that Ossa was part-reaper. "Are you cosplaying as a ghost and haunting my house now?"

Ossa tilted her head at Chloe. What was she talking about? Of course she came with the blanket... The blanket kept her safe from the scary people. And what was cosplay? Amber, your mama is weird..

Ossa peered around Chloe. Mama wasn't there. it wasn't time to leave yet.

"[sub]Hiding.[/sub]" The tiny spiderling pointed to Chloe with her scythe. "[sub]scary... [/sub]"

Chloe was scary, now? It made sense in principle.

"I... suppose that's fair. But everyone here is pretty scary in their own way. Your mom is terrifying to most people. You're a demon spider and the daughter of a death being too, you know. That's pretty spooky."

At least she got Ossa to talk to her.

Mama was only scary to the scary people. Mama was a safe. Chloe... was Chloe a safe? She was scary, but she wasn't as scary as other scaries so maybe if someone scarier was being mean Chloe would be a safe. For now though, Ossa was gonna go hide agian. The tiny spider skittered backwards, away from Chloe.

"[sub]mommy needs me? I on't wanna talk to the scaries...[/sub]"

Chloe wondered if this behavior had something to do with Ossa's life as a recent hatchling, the eat-or-be-eaten frenzy. Was she even sentient, at that point? Living through something like that and remembering it would probably come with scars.

She walked a few steps in, struggling to think of a way to reach out to Ossa.

"I... promise that nobody here will try to hurt you. In fact, I spend a lot of my time trying to convince everyone not to be mean to demons like you and me."

Amber's mommy was trying really hard. She really really wanted Ossa to like her. Maybe she wasn't a scary? Maybe if Mama could trust her, Ossa could too. She was still family, right? Ossa lifted the blanket, peeking out from underneath it.

"Auntie safe? No scary demons?"
