I brought Kalvin into what I call the Sleepless arc. It's basically him losing sleep over an encounter with the 'ghost' at the dorms (from the Rumors). The plan is that the sleeplessness is not childhood trauma or a deep-seated fear of the supernatural (or is it?), but rather a curse/hex placed onto him.
I thought he'd make enough interactions with people on the island by the time I began this arc. (He didn't, sadly).
So... I'm looking for a mage/sorcerer/witch/wizard/warlock of some kind who can cast spells on people.
The character doesn't necessarily have to be evil or mean-spirited. The character doesn't even need to have met Kalvin ever before.
It can be a wrong number type of scenario, AKA spell gone wrong (set on the wrong guy). It can be a prank spell that somehow is cast to be heavier/worse than it's meant to be. It can be a bad spell cast by mistake and Kal happened to be walking into the caster's line of sight at the time. An apprentice mage practicing magic in what seemed to be an abandoned stretch of road when Kal happened to be in the area. OR it can be intentional, after Kalvin beat up someone's brother or lover at the underground arena. Maybe it's not even a spell--it could've been someone's magical invention or pet that stuck to Kal and is causing him sleeplessness ( idk, let me know if you have a more logical explanation for this).
