Hue was very, very excited. Though she had started working at SA at the beginning of the school year, she hadn't had many opportunities to teach. She spent most of her time with mentors and observing other classrooms.

However, today was her day. She was going to lead a class! It was a special event and one of her mentors sat in the back of the classroom to observe. She was giddy and ready to get going.

The class was more or less an implementation of what Hue had done at the Institution, her societies school. Whenever a school year was coming to an end, those in the level above would get together with those in the level below and pair up to discuss what their year had been like. This was so those below could feel prepared for what was to come and those above wouldn't forget where they had been.

She stood in front of a group of twenty students: ten first graders and ten second graders. She smiled broadly, her excitement visibility pouring out as she let a bit more of her Light out making her skin just a bit brighter for a moment before she calmed reigned it back in. She didn't want to affect any of these young students with her Clarifying Light quite yet. She did make sure though that the students who were brought in for this class didn't have negative reactions to light magic. The last thing she wanted was to fry a child vampire.

"Welcome kids! I am so excited to have you here for this special event class! My name is Hue of the Blue Clan. You may call me Miss Hue. Today we are going to pair up and share about how our school years have been so far. For some of you this probably sounds very exciting and others it might sound kind of scary. Both are fine! In fact, some of you might even feel both ways about this exercise."

Hue had been standing and at this time lowered her self down so she sat cross-legged in front of the students. She didn't like to spend too much time towering over everyone. She grabbed two cups from her desk and handed them to the students on her left and her right.

"First graders, pick a stick from the red cup and second graders, pick a stick from the green cup!" She waited until the students had all picked a stick before she continued "Now, on the ends of your sticks you will see a number. Find the student with the same number as you. They will be your partner!"

She would give the students a few minutes to find their partner and hopefully say hi before she finished with her instructions.

When Dee walked into the classroom she felt a little overwhelmed. Her first-grade class the previous year has not been nearly this large. Dee watched the teacher as she spoke and took a moment to look at her appearance. Dee noted the branches and the light that radiated off the woman. While looking, she felt much calmer, which was a feeling that Dee hadn't had in quite a while.
She followed her other second grade peers and got into the line of kids waiting for the blue cup. The line moved very quickly as students drew their numbers and went off to find their buddy. When it was Dee's turn she walked up to the table with the blue cup and picked out her stick quickly and walked off to the side before flipping her stick over and looking at the small handwritten number on the bottom of her stick, 7.

Junchi could barely contain his excitement. He was in his humanoid form as he hopped from one talon to the other. He kept fidgeting with his mask in the meantime while the teacher gave her lecture. He was only barely listening, too focused on the upperclassmen to see which one he wanted to be paired with the most. If he willed hard enough, he would get what he wanted. The only thing keeping his attention on the teacher was her dazzling appearance. There were so many colors, it was hard to focus on her as a whole.

When the time came to pick from the cup, Junchi nearly knocked the other kids over to get the first pick. That was until he bumped into his first kid and he saw the glare he got back. From then on, he was more gentle.

He was the fourth to pick from the red cup. There was no hesitation when Junchi flipped his stick around to see the number seven. Standing on the tip of his toes and waving his stick up, he shouted, "I got seven!" in hopes that his partner would shout back.

Dee heard someone shout the number seven and her eyes quickly scanned the room until she saw another student raising their stick and waving it around. She carefully picked her way through the students as to not come between a pair. She walked over to the other student and smiled at them softly. "Hi, I'm Dee." she said in a soft voice hoping that her partner would hear her.

Just as Junchi expected, finding his partner was easy after shouting his number. He rushed over to meet his partner midway through. When he found her, he continued his bouncy way of moving by somewhat circling her. "Hi! I'm Junchi! Nice to meet you, Dee." He stopped in front of her to give a clawed hand for her to shake. He was still very close to Dee. His parents and teachers had taught him about the importance of personal space here, but he still liked getting close to whoever he was speaking to.

"What do you wanna do first? Do we wait for the teacher? I have lots of questions to ask! Oh, and I like your eyes. They're really pretty."

Hue watched as the children found their partners. She loved watching children interact with each other. There was just something so sweet and innocent about it. She waited until everyone was in a pair and had at least given their names before speaking again.

"Good job everyone! I am going to give the rest of the instructions now so listen up." She smiled and stood back up, moving towards the white board.

"Today is what my society calls a Peer Mentorship Day. I am sure some of your teachers already explained it to you but I will do a quick refresher."

She picked up a red marker and drew a horizontal line on the board and then a little stick figure in the middle.

"This is the Path of Life and this is you on the Path of Life." She picked up an orange marker and drew two more stick figures, one in front and one behind the red stick figure.

"These are other the people on the Path of Life. It is important to have people in front of and behind you on the Path of Life so you can see where you are going and so you don't forget where you have been."

She sat down again in front of the students, "First graders, today is about talking to someone just a couple steps ahead. Second graders, today is about talking to someone just a couple steps behind you. Find somewhere in the classroom that looks like a fun and comfortable place to sit and talk. There are tables with paper and pens if you'd like to draw while you talk. There are some blocks in the back if you'd like to sit and build something. There are bean bag chairs up front and if you have a hard time sitting still, you can walk around the outside of the classroom." She motioned to each area as she talked; the tables, the blocks, the bean bags, and the carpet path that went around the edges of the room.

"The first ten minutes are going to spent with the first graders telling the second graders what their year has been like. Second graders, your task during these ten minutes is to ask the first graders questions. This is so you can remember how it felt to be a first grader before you tell the first graders how it feels to be a second grader. If you need help at any point, just raise your hand and I will come right to you!" She didn't mention that she would be paying attention to their conversations as well in case someone needed her to step in but was to shy to raise their hand.

"Now find a spot to talk and I will let you know when the first ten minutes is up!" She smiled again, her eyes closing as she did and her shoulders shrugging up a bit. A butterfly flew up and out of the branches on her back for a moment before it settled back into its place.

When the teacher began to talk Dee turned to her partner, who had introduced himself as Junchi. Dee was never really one to take charge in many situations so she turned to him to talk after the teacher had finished talking.
"Do you have a preference for what we do?" she asked the child next to her who was a few inches shorter than she was.

Junchi listened carefully to the teacher as she explained their next steps. This was so exciting! Junchi wanted to grab Dee's hand and jump around with her, but grabbing people without their permission was bad here. He was going to be on his best behavior for his new friend.

"I... wanna walk around!" He was already moving towards the carpet path as he spoke, though he had the decency to check behind himself to make sure Dee was following.

Dee followed Junchi to the path around the classroom. It was a multi-color path that was wide enough for two people to stand and walk next to each other comfortably. She began to walk with her partner around the path.

Junchi had a bounce to his stroll as he followed the path the carpet made and rambled about his school year.

"I'm new to the island, but I came with my friend Arjean, and we're in the same grade and same class, so it's okay! I made lots of friends too anyways! Lots! I'm friends with my whole class and outside my class. I'm really good at reading too! I like reading out loud more, but Teacher says I read out loud too much and distract the other kids. I was told I'm really good at talking. Really really good. I think I really like this school. There's a lot of different people to be friends with. Lots of people said I look different and cute, but some people are mean and said I look scary, so I wear a mask, but my nails and talons don't help a lot. Um... uh..."

Junchi continued to go on and explain much smaller details, ranging from specific people he met, bullies, and being called a bully. His ramble may as well have taken up the entire ten minutes because soon enough, he wore himself out on how much he said and looked expectedly at Dee for a response.
