A young looking woman was in the courtyard, it was around two hours past noon. She was in one of the training grounds, a large expense of terrain covered with something similar to japanese tatamis. She had gotten rid of her usual red leather jacket and dress shirt. Right now, she had an orange spaghetti strapped tank top with a pair of stretch blue jeans. Her pale white skin didn't seem to burn in the sun although many with such a pale complexion would easily suffer from sunburns. Her feet were bare although the weather was slightly chilly. Her long black hair was tied at her back in a braid. Her eyes were blindfolded by a thick black cloth. In both her hands were gleaming curved daggers as long as her forearms. Her body moved in the graceful movements of the training katas of her art. She started slow before increasing the pace until her strikes were just a blur.

Lyra walked down the paths in the courtyard, bored out of her mind. Her gold and silver streaked hair was tied in a ponytail to keep it out of her face. She had on a black short sleeved shirt, the pale scars running up and down her arms visible. Her dark blue jeans flared out over her combat boots. Valraven was wrapped around her neck and shoulders, his breathing even as he dozed.

Lyra paused, hearing something faint. She followed the sound to the source, watching in veiled awe as the person kept going faster. She stood quietly on the side lines, petting the viper absentmindedly. Val lifted his head and looked around, eyes landing on the daggers. "Those look dangerous," he hissed to Lyra. Lyra hummed in agreement, watching the blades as the glinted in the sunlight.

The black haired woman continued to train, going through more and more complex maneuvers with seeming ease. Her breaths were silent and her muscles trained into these combat maneuvers. She even did a back flip once, feet landing spread aprt and her body holding up and her not falling on hert bum. She had heard the younger woman arrive, but she didn't want to loose her concentration over it. She soon slowed down, her moves becoming the slower ones of warming down. Training did strain her a lot more than she let see. Finally, she placed both back in the sheaths strapped to her waist. The woman then pulled the blindfold off of her eyes. Rayana turned her eyes to the young woman holding a snake standing on the sidelines. Black eyes met hers.

-You like blades?- She asked.

Lyra clapped softly as the woman finished up. She shrugged in response to the question. "I think they're interesting," she said. "But , I've never used one. Had them used on me, though." The last part of her reply was muttered softly. Val hissed darkly, but silenced when Lyra tapped him softly on the head.

"I think I'm more of a hand-to-hand combat type of person, or hand-to-weapon," she said, thinking about it. "By the way, my name's Lyra. This is Valraven."

-You'd have the built for it though.- She replied, hearing the comment said under the other's breath but choosing to ignore it. -Speed and accuracy before overwhelming strength.-

She flexed her muscles while they talked, she might have been a vampire, but she did occasionally get sore muscles for a couple hours.

-Mine is Rayana. You practice martial arts?-

The older woman was curious, usually, people avoided her when they saw her practicing, especially if they were men, they didn't feel too happy about a woman being able to best them in combat. Given her stamina, she could outlast many people.

-I myself practices mostly with blades.-

Lyra looked thoughtful as she thought over what Rayana had said. "Do you really think I'd have the build for it?" she asked. "I think blades are really interesting. I'd love to learn how to use them."

In response to Rayana's question, she shook her head. "I've never actually practiced any sort of fighting arts really. It was mostly just street fights," Lyra said. "Fights that could either end up with me dead or the other person running or knocked out."

Lyra smiled faintly as she said, "You seem to really know what you're doing with those blades of yours."

-Of course, otherwise I wouldn't have told you that.- She replied.

She approached the bag on the ground next to her outer clothes and rummaged through it. Her hands soon closed unto old wooden training daggers that she had bought off the market that same day.

-You usually learn to survive that way, evasive moves, dirty tricks and that type of fighting.- Rayana continued while she placed her metallic blades in her bag.

If this was going where she thought it was going, she wouldn't need them anymore for now.

-I've had a lot of experience with these blades, they saved my life more than once.- The black haired woman replied standing up again holding both wooden daggers. -Do you want to learn?-

Lyra's eyes shone as she nodded. "I'd love to!" She walked over to the edge of the training area and carefully unwrapped Val from her body and set him down in a sunny patch that was out of the way.

After making sure that Val wouldn't get stepped on, she walked back to Rayana. "If you don't mind, could you tell me about some of your experiences later on?" she asked.

-I can, but you understand that there are things that I will keep secret.- She replied seriously.

She handed the younger woman one of the wooden daggers, these were plain, heavy blades of strong wood. They were perfect for training because once you went to getting a real blade, you found it a lot easier than training blades, but to her it didn't make much difference. Such was her strength.

-Now, I will show you how to hold a blade. You have either of two ways, the standard form.- She said holding the blade upwards. -And the fang form.-

This time, the point of the blade was pointing towards the ground.

-It depends on what type of slash you want to make.- Rayana continued. -Show me how you hold your blade.-

"That's okay," Lyra said, "Everyone has their secrets."

She took the blade from Rayana, running her hand across it softly. She hefted it, getting a feel for the weight. She watched as the older woman demonstrated the different ways to hold the blade.

Lyra held the training dagger with the point facing downwards, fang form. She gripped the handle firmly, but not too tightly. She looked up at Rayana to see if she had gotten it right.
