Sam was bored out of his mind. Since he was on a parole of sorts, he couldn't really stir up much trouble. There wasn't much for him to do here. He's not allowed to fight. He's not allowed to steal things. He's not allowed to stir up any trouble. Most of the time he just runs around the campus because he wasn't even allowed into town without supervision. He hated it. At least it was better than juvie. That was something he constantly had to remind himself of, whenever he felt like complaining about his current situation, whenever he felt compelled to just start a fight.

It was better to be here than anywhere else.

Right now, though, chaos was happening in all directions. He could hear everything. There were monsters here. The bonfire where you could see the dead became a monster invasion. Everybody was preoccupied with something - like surviving, for example. Nobody left to pay attention to him. Sure, maybe he'd get into trouble later, but he could just say it's in self-defense, right? And plus, it wasn't going to hurt anybody if he just went out to the forest, armed with his cane and one of those training weapons they had scattered around in the power classrooms. He was going to go hunt some monsters.

Now, in the middle of the forest, he wasn't very sure. The tinge of blood was in the air, blood, and smoke, but under that something more sinister than the usual dampness of the forest. Something that didn't belong there. Interdimensional alright. Nothing was near him, but maybe these monsters didn't make any sound, in which case he was royally screwed. He kept his right hand tight around the handle of his cane, his left hand against the bark of an elm tree. He sniffed the air. Nothing near him.

Then there was a series of footsteps, distinctly not human, and he was in trouble.

Leandro wasn't one to sit back as things around him fell apart, it just wasn't in his nature. When things fell apart then he had to help put things right, so with monsters invading the island he'd made sure his family was locked up safe in the mansion, then he headed out. His combat suit was light and strong and hid his face, he armed with a sword across his back, a few knives and if needed his claws, and if push came to shove he could summon shadow shards.

He moved through the forest quickly, his shadow teleportation and agility making the travel easy. Moving up a tree, he shut his sonar off and switched to his blood sense, he'd be able to see any creature's circulatory system. Leaning back he sniffed the air, picking up the scent of a person and what was very likely a creature in the same general direction, so he started moving again.

Moving from tree to tree, using his teleportation when needed, he halted in a tree as the scent of the person and creature grew strong, they were close. He'd need to get the person into safety, deal with the creature if he could, yes he was going to be busy tonight.

The creature was very, very green. It had eight legs spread out from its body, but its front was upright, an almost Centaurian body configuration. Its footsteps were light, but obvious to Samson simply for how many of them there were, the footfalls coming one after another as it moved along the ground towards him. It was maybe fifty feet away, but not speeding up - it was moving steadily, seemingly oblivious to Samson despite their proximity.

Leandro would be unable to see it within his sonar range, nor would he be able to see it's circulatory system.

[Leandro cannot see a circulatory system past ten feet. If this was not in error and you intended for your thread's visitor to be within ten feet of Leandro, please let me know.]

There was a faint rustling above him that ticked his senses off. He sniffed the air a couple times. Under that cloying mist of blood and dirt and trees, he could smell the salt that came in human sweat. There was somebody, then, somebody near him other than those light footsteps approaching closer every second. Sam debated, rapidly, what chances he had at running away from that thing. With the speed that it's moving at, not quite, and anyways he came out here to have fun.

For the first time in the evening, he started to doubt himself and his abilities.

The human could be an ally against that thing. Judging by the rustling noises, it was somebody who was pretty light, taller than himself, athletic. Most likely had a weapon with him, since the smell of metal, light but tangible, was moving with that person. It was an armed, athletic person. He could use some help. Maybe. Sort of.

Yeah, he probably could use some help.

"Hey. Hey, guy in the tree. You're like four feet away from me, so come down here and say hi because I can hear you," Sam said, quietly. "You're too loud to be stealthy."

The creature smelt odd, weird unlike anything he'd ever smelt before. These things were definitely coming in from other realms, portals and gateways and cracks in the barriers, quite the mess it seemed. He tilted his head in the direction of the voice, human by their scent, with enhanced senses if they'd managed to notice him.

Leandro gripped the tree branch with his claws, leaning forward and took a big sniff if the air, the scent didn't seem to be growing thicker, indicating the creature wasn't speeding up. Releasing the brach, he seemed to fall feet first, only to seemingly vanish into the trees shadow and pop out of one a bit closer to the person, giving him a vew of their circulatory system.

He sniffed the air again, "it doesn't seem to be moving fast," he told them, his voice calm, but a little gruffed over, just in case he ever bumped into this guy before. "I smell metal on you, armed I'm guessing," he tilted his head, "the thing will speed up it decides it wants to hunt, or if we happen to be in its chosen territory." He tilted his head, listening for any movements, "I can get you out of here if you want, but I'm guessing you don't. So, guess we'll just have to deal with that thing."

The creature was maybe forty feet away when it abruptly paused, its head - vaguely human, save for two sets of pure black almond shaped eyes - rotating towards where both Leandro and Samson were crouched. Perhaps it had heard their speaking, or perhaps it had some other senses, but it remained perfectly still, the limbs that were closest to arms hanging dead at its sides as it stared towards them.

Focusing, he switched to his sonar ability, he could see the creature in the distance. It was bizarre, partially centaur like but with many more limbs, a truly unusual entity, and it was headed right for them. The young vampire could have left, retreated via his shadow teleportation, but no, that wasn't what he was going to do.

Taking a breath, he steadied himself and stepped under a large tree, right in the shadow. He had no intention of fleeing, bit his shadow magic was definitely useful in fights. His hand rested calmly on the hilt of his sword, ready to attack if need be and read to shadow teleport if he needed to change positions.

The creature turned it's head ever so slightly as Leandro stepped forward. It had no obvious ears with which to hear with, but advanced enough sonar would be able to pick up small holes in the sides of its head that might have been ears. Even with Leandro's movement, it remained still, obviously listening - or perhaps waiting for something else.

(( Sir Catfish, if you come back while this thread is active, shoot me a reply to my PM and we should be able to work you back into it. Otherwise, I'm going to assume Samson is hanging back. ))

The creature staid still, as if waiting and listening for him to do something. Leandro sniffed the air, his sonar giving him an image of the truly unusual creature, all of the creatures appearing have been hostile animals, he had no reason to believe this one was any different. So, the young vampire thought about the best approach to this fight, he decided the best option was to keep it off balanced.

So, drawing his sword, he vanished into the shadow of the tree. Shadow teleportation is unusual, it's like temporarily entering a void, no light, no sounds, no noise, it's never bothered Leandro, shadow magic came naturally to him. From the tree's shadow he teleported appearing out of the creature's own shadow.

He knew he didn't have long until the creature noticed him, he had only a few precious moments until the thing retaliated. So he moved fast, slashing at the joints of its back leg, yes this was a good strategy, use the shadows, keep moving, keep the entity off balanced. He didn't wait to see, or in his case, smell, how much damage he'd done, as soon as the slashes landed he vanished back into the entity's shadow and appeared out of the one cast by another tree.

Up close, Leandro would have a better idea of what he was dealing with, his sonar sense giving him a clear idea. It was indeed a centaur shape, with eight legs on the lower half, much like a centipedes. The upper half was more humanoid, with a vaguely human torso with four arms. The arms, however, were distinctly not human, being identical in nature to the lower limbs and ending with fine points. While Leandro wouldn't be able to tell, the creature was extremely green, blending into the forest neatly. To someone with sight, it would have been considered well camouflaged, but to Leandros senses it was as clear as day.

The creatures face was obscured to Leandro, the finer details lost. There would be no metal tag to be sensed, but there was a small pouch made of leather tied around the figure's lower back, nestled where its torso met its body.

Leandro's sword would find its mark, slashing into the joints of the creature's rearmost leg. It did not let out a scream of pain, but instead let out a scream of energy. The creature was a telepath, and the howl of pain and terror would be obvious enough from the moment Leandro's sword found it mark.

But it didn't stop there. The entire creature writhed, turning to try and follow Leandro before he abruptly vanished into a shadow, and the creature continued its howl of pain and terror, although at a distance Leandro would only be able to feel it faintly.

With Leandro out of range, the creature twisted away, its injured leg lifted up and its weight supported by the other legs. Even then it was off balance, not nearly as fast as it might have been as it lunged away from the direction Leandro had attacked it from, obviously unclear where Leandro was located.
