Ganymede got up from his seat and practically fell into the taller NEK0's waiting arms. For a second, he squeezed Rhys about as tight as he could manage, which wasn't very tight at all. Then he relaxed. He scooted over a little so they were basically snuggling, side by side on the shared beanbag chair.

He would enjoy this moment without saying anything for a little while.

"By the way..." He said, "Do you prefer male or female pronouns?" It was starting to bother him that he didn't know how best to address Rhys. He didn't want to get it wrong and make them sad.

Neither one of them were strong enough for a true bear hug, but that was perfectly fine. It was almost more reassuring to have someone more or less matching Rhys' own limitations hug them. For their part Rhys hugged Ganymede back, closing their eyes and letting their long tail flick slightly.

Rhys sighed and the tears stopped, but they stiffened back up slightly at the question on pronouns. "I... hmm." They hesitated while they tried to think things through. It wasn't as easy a question for them as it could have been. Especially after living most of their life as both male and female. "I don't... know. Neither one bothers me really, but it feels weird to pick one or the other. They told me I didn't have to pick one."

Ganymede considered this for a second. It seemed like that was a more difficult question than he was expecting.

"That's okay," he said. "Maybe I'll just... use whatever pronoun seems right at the time, and you can tell me what to do differently if you want me to change that. If that's okay?" He had heard about 'genderfluid' people before - this was the best approach he could think up.

"As for me, I'm a boy. But I won't get upset when I'm wearing a dress or the girl's uniform at school and someone talks about me as though I'm a girl."

Rhys' tense stiffness relaxed as Ganymede seemed to either understand or at least accept that Rhys didn't have a great answer for the question. "I don't think using one or the other will really bother me. My counselor uses 'they' when they aren't sure but that kind of sounds like there's two of me." Rhys smiled slightly at the odd notion.

They listened attentively and nodded as Gany explained his own pronoun preferences. "I won't make that mistake now that you've told me. I wear dresses sometimes too, but it's harder now that no one picks out my clothes for me. I have both school uniforms and sometimes I can't pick which one to use."
