Why was red thread so hard to find?
Through the crowds of the hot summer streets Lilian wove, a hand to her forehead blocking the sun. The buildings here reflected a lot of the light, and though the redheaded woman had to admit that the rays made for a nice array, the heat they gave was sweltering.
Really, all it should have been was a short trip to her friend Beatrice's store and buy some red thread from them, maybe chat a bit, see what the kids'd been up to. But - when she'd knocked at the door, they'd been out, no one in sight.
So, here she was, out of her zone, out of inspiration, and out of red thread, sweltering in the Manta Carlos sun to search for a store that might have it.
Not the garish red, either - she was looking for good, strong red. Maybe even a shade of cherry. After all - red was the most visible in this type of job - where everything was black, red really stood out.
She ducked into one of the many stores that lined the sidewalks. Tiny little store, really - she was glad her own store, Stitch in Time Tailors, wasn't nearly this small. Although, she reasoned with herself, that may have been the reason she'd run out of thread so quickly.
Maybe saffron would work. Or perhaps a bright vermillion. Oh, but scarlet would work so well...
