So far away...

Xhaiden walked to the computer lab, a little dejectedly. His laptop wasn't working, and he was having trouble fixing it. He sat down at one of the computers and logged on, not paying attention to anyone who might be around.

He put in a c.d and plugged his earphones in, turning the volume on the speakers up. He started typing away at the keyboard. He hummed along to a Crossfade song as he checked his email.

Caitlin groaned. She was busy working on an assignment, listening to her quiet Phantom of the Opera soundtrack. And then this guy walks in, sits down right next to her, and starts blaring his music through his headphones.

Trying not to let herself be annoyed, Caitlin just turned her music up a little more and tried to concentrate on the task at hand.

But she couldn't do it. FInally, she turned to the newcomer and pulled out her own earphones, then his.

"Look," Caitlin said, trying not to seem mean, "Could you tone it down a little? You'll be deaf before your 30th birthday if you keep on like that, and I won't finish my homework on time."

She almost yanked his ear off too. "Ow..." Xhaiden muttered. "Yeah, sure." He turned the volume down. But he couldn't concentrate because of her music. He cleared his throat, hoping she'd get the hint.

"I prefer you asking kindly, not clearing your thorat." Caitlin said, not lowering the volume.

Xhaiden sighed inaudibly. He reached over and gently pulled off her head phones. "Could you please turn down your music?" He asked. "I have never been able to stand show tunes..."

"Sure I will, even though you insulting one of the best musicals of all time doesn't put you high up on my list..." Caitlin said, putting in one earphone, then the other, after turning it down quite a bit.

"I didn't insult it. I just commented on the fact that I had never been fond of show tunes. He glanced back at the computer screen, then back at her. "What are you working on anyway?"

"Its just a stupid report to the headmistress about a class I'd like to have opened." Caitlin said.

"Sounds like a ton of fun." Xhaiden said. It didn't actually sound fun, but he understood if she wanted to do extra homework. That was always fun. "I'm Xhaiden."

"Ha, well, its not." Caitlin said, smiling. "I just really want the class to be offered, but I don't want to teach it. As you can tell, I'm only 15. Anyways, I'm Caitlin."
