Smoke through these tears

The evanescent smoke floated up to the ceiling. The old moldy tiles crumbled in their metal skeletal frames. Everything about this room smelled of old, decay, forgotten, it was the perfect spot. The tiles were no longer white, their color moving towards a much dingier brown. Dust clung to everything. Particles of it danced in the light coming from a half covered window. A few of the tiles had fallen and their broken pieces littered the equally dusty floor.

A pair of footprints could be seen in the dust, revealing the browning tiles beneath the thin layer. They led to a pair of black sneakers. She leaned back against one of the old desks. It was one of the few that was still able to stand. The skeletal remains of old desks littered the room. Names scratched onto broken up wooden surfaces. Ben + Lacy 4ever. Gag.

Eclaire leaned back against the desk. She had on a dark purple tube top and a pair of jean shorts that barely qualified as clothing. The top of her cell phone peeked out of one pocket, the top of a pack of smokes out the other. She pulled another drag and blew the smoke back up to the ceiling, watching it disappear.

Eclaire had long wavy hair, dyed a dark black color, and her skin was lightly tanned. She had light green eyes, dark green streaked throughout, giving them a multi-dimensional look. Her nails were painted a dark purple, each other with a black dot in the center. Only one hand though. Her other lacked nail polish completely. It wasn’t that she thought it was stylish… no… she had just gotten bored of painting them and so stopped.

Eclaire pulled on the remainder of her cigarette and tossed the butt onto the floor, grinding it into the cement tiling and sending up another cloud of dust. She waved it away with her hand and went to the half-covered window. She pulled at the sheet and in a sudden release the whole thing came tumbling down in a billow of fabric and dust.

Elcaire blinked the dust out of her eye and suppressed a coughing spree that was rising up in her throat.

“Damn curtains. Think they’d clean this place up a bit.”

She leaned against the wall and looked out the window as she opened her pack and pulled out another smoke.

Halloween walked up the stairs leading to the third floor which was supposed to be not used at all, and she heard was old and dusty, and a rather disgusting place. But she also heard it was a place to go if you wanted to be alone, well, she didn't really hear that, she just figured it would be, hopefully.

Her high heeled boots clicked against the floor as she stepped onto the third floor, hesitating when she saw how it looked. The floor and any flat surfaces coated with dust and a cobweb here and there. She wrinkled her nose in disgust before moving on.

Her light eyes noticing footprints imprinted on the dusty floor that looked rather fresh. Great, someone must be here. And though she figured that, she still walked on even if there were two reasons she should leave this floor.

Hallow reached a door that was open somewhat, the hinges on it didn't look really stable, she noted to herself to never move it in case it would try falling on her. Last thing she wanted was dust to get all over her black clothes to have it show.

She peeked into the room, and noticed a woman there, a frown on Hallow's face immediately as she smelled something disgusting, and noticed the woman was smoking.

"I knew I smelled something foul." Hallow said. But she wasn't judging, those things were just disgusting, the smell was never pleasant for her, they always sent her head reeling.

"I knew I smelled something foul."

Eclaire’s eyes moved from the outside view of the school grounds towards the woman who had just intruded upon her escape. As she looked the woman up and down a bird alighted on the window ledge and started belting out a cheerful song. She slammed her fist into the window and the brightly colored bird took off to find a more restful roost. Eclaire took the cig from between her lips.

“Foul to you maybe,”

Eclaire tapped the ash off the end of her smoke and let it scattered across the floor. She drew another long drag, finishing off half the cig. She let it drop from between her lips and onto the floor. It still burned slowly, a trickle of smoke moving up towards the ceiling. Eclaire expelled the rest of the smoke from her mouth and ground out the still burning butt.

“And if you’re going to be all whiney about it.”

Eclaire moved her hand in the air with a flick of her wrist and the smoke disappeared from the room completely. She raised her eyebrow at the person who had so rudely come in on her time.

“Happy?”
She rolled her eyes. “Delicate thing aren’t you? Can’t stand a little smoke.”

Eclaire really didn’t care if she came off as rude, or a bitch. She didn’t even want to be at this stupid school. She didn’t want to meet the stupid students, or teachers or anything. She scowled at the newcomer before she pulled out another cigarette. She didn’t light this one. Instead she rolled it between her finger tips.

“What brings you up here?”

Hallow didn't think she was really being whiney about it. This girl seemed to overreact about things, it was slightly amusing to her as she listened to the girl and watched her put the smoke out. Hallow stepped further into the room, fingering one of the many silver rings that were around the top of her black skirt, two similar rings were on the bottom of her skirt too. Hallow wore nothing but black clothes (but silver jewelry) that matched the same black color as her hair. Her long sleeved that was black had two thin straps across each shoulder. Her skin paler then normal people, and eyes a light gray that looked close to white. Her fingernails were also black, and well cared for.

"Happy? Quite. Delicate?" Hallow snorted with laughter. She didn't mind the smoke it just gave her a headache. It had been interesting when the smoke had completely dissipated from the room. Some people had such different powers from her own, but Hallow still preferred her's, animating things like garden gnomes was just so much fun and not to mention very amusing.

“What brings you up here?”

"Just looking for somewhere that's away from all those people in the lower floors. This delicate flower needs some alone time from her nagging friends. Something I doubt you have." Hallow gave a smile.

“Tut tut,” Eclaire waved the cigarette at the girl. “I never said ‘flower’,” She made a point of looking the girl over again, a little more critically this time. “Maybe if you added ‘wilted’ in front it would be more accurate.”

Eclaire stared at the girl for a long moment. Brat. She didn’t feel right without a smoke though. Put here in this dingy old place, alone, well she used to be alone. She cast another critical eye at the girl.

“Don’t worry. No smoke,”

She snorted her distain before she pulled out a lighter a lit up. She pulled on the smoke with a sigh of relief. No smoke curled from the end this time, and when Eclaire expelled her breath the strangest thing happened. There was clearly smoke in her mouth but as she breathed it out it disappeared into air. Eclaire closed her eyes and smiled. There was no way this brat was ruining this for her. She opened one eye and settled it on the girl.

“Friends?”
Eclaire snorted a laugh. “Why would I ever want to be friends with freaks like you people?” She tapped off more ash onto the floor and took another drag. “Sorry but your all a little deranged.”

Eclaire rolled her eyes so that she was looking out over the school grounds again. Come to think of it she was supposed to be in one class or another right now. She had practically forgotten even the room numbers.

“Shouldn’t you be studying like a good little flower?”
