Rory wasn't sure what to make of that expression. Sadness? Anger? Maybe he was just tired. She knew better than to ask. Instead, she told him goodnight. Sleep well. And she meant that even if she wasn't about to apologize for bringing up the subject. Lorelai slept on the couch, woke up early. Early enough that it was still dark out. Early enough that she'd barely gotten any sleep at all. She wrote out a quick note, left it on the table near the couch, and went home to pick up her school uniform.
