This was… not good.
For the past few days, something was going wrong with Loralei’s form. Normally, she appeared just as a regular person, minus her silver skin. But lately her facade was cracking, revealing what she truly was- just a figure made of smoke.
Being a Djinn, her soul was extracted from her mortal body and tied to a lamp- or in this case, her teapot- and the being people associated with her was a feisty young woman. Last week however, that began to change. She’d be holding a cup and it would fall through her hand and, upon inspection, she could see right through it. She would be walking one place and all the sudden teleport a few feet ahead. Her entire body felt like that sensation when your foot falls asleep. And, since that’s not a normal occurrence, something was definitely up.
Though she was in school to be a nurse, she couldn’t say she was very fond of being on the receiving end of a hospital visit. She hadn’t needed to see a doctor here since… Well, her daughter was born. Luckily, she was able to keep herself together long enough to prevent her daughter from seeing that something was wrong. She didn’t want to concern anybody, so, contrary to her stubborn behavior, she almost immediately scheduled an appointment with a supernatural specialist.
She was sitting in the waiting room, the edges of her silhouette flickering in the wind of the ceiling fan. On her lap, just stable enough to provide a solid resting surface, was her little silver teapot. Her wavering fingers traced over the fine engravings and pretty aquamarine and diamond stones. She hadn’t honestly seen this thing in forever- there was no need to keep it on her, now that she had found someone to bind herself to. But looking at it, it was both a symbol of independence and a simple of her imprisonment. She was a genie. This was her vessel, her looming threat had she not found anyone to serve. She hated that word, but that’s what it was. She may be independent in her heart but her soul said otherwise. Perhaps then, this condition was her punishment for finding a loophole. She really, really hoped not.
Her eyes were fixated on her teapot as she waited in the room, only one other person present. Her name was to be called soon. Hopefully, she wouldn’t have to go back home shit out of luck, or, even worse, not go home at all.
