Smile upon a Tree

Isabelle walked into the forest and wandered around, she didn’t have any place in mind she just wanted to go for a walk. It was some time during the day. It was quite a windy day too. Isabelle looked up at the tall trees, wishing she could see the view from up there. Isabelle leaned against a tree, and smiled listening to the sounds of the deep forest. Should I climb? She found herself asking. She looked up at the tall tree again.

It didn't really matter, as Max had already beaten her to it.

He was sitting on a branch more or less directly over the path, long legs kicking idly back and forth and grayish wings fluttering every so often to help him keep his balance. The girl was standing by the trunk of his tree, and he was afraid she would climb it and make everything all uncomfortable.

Max slung his legs back up on the branch, easily lowering himself until his curly hair was swaying gently in the breeze and his head was the same height as the girls. He was a scarce foot away from her, now, and he crooked his fingers in a wave at her. "'Hello." He added after some thought, to make sure she got that he was greeting her.

Deciding against climbing up there. Isabelle looked up the tree again and she finally noticed the boy in the tree. How could she have missed him earlier? Isabelle waved back at him, "Hey." She said to him, she wondered how long he actually had been up there. Isabelle didn’t know what to say, she was slightly embarrassed he saw her first when she didn’t know someone was even up there.

Max nodded slightly, finding the motion to be slightly difficult when you're hanging upside down. Ah, conversation. He relaxed his legs, letting go of the branch and slowly flying down to earth on his wings.
He'd had to ruin his shirt to get them to poke out, cut huge slits in it and everything. But he supposed it was worth it... He'd never gotten a chance to exercise them back home.

He walked over to the girl, tilting his head and looking at her curiously. "I'm out, you can climb it now." He offered in what he hoped was a polite manner, turning the faintest shade of pink at the very real possibility that she'd simply been waiting for him to climb down so she could have a turn. Although, quite honestly, she didn't seem the type to be scrambling up trees, anyway...

He dropped down on a conveniently placed boulder, flashing a bright smile over at her. "Me name's Max. Are you new here?"

Isabelle shook her heard no. "No I’ve been here for some time now. Though I’ve stopped counting the days." Isabelle said honestly, she felt counting only reminded her that she wanted to be back home where she belonged. "I’m Isabelle. Most people call me Izzy." She said with a small smile on her face, "You don’t have to get off, it’s ok." She said.

Max raised an eyebrow, shrugging lightly. "I've only been here a few days meself. Seems I'm the only one new around here."

"Pleasure, Isabelle." Isabelle was his sister's name, and she hated the nickname so much he didn't even think before calling the girl by her full name.
"I'm already off, anyway," He glanced up at the tree for a few seconds, shoving his hands into the pockets of his too-big pants carelessly. It was cold out, at least by his standards, and he shivered lightly through his jacket. How he hated winter...

"Not really, there’s quite a few new students around here. I’ve met loads, mostly because they were lost." Isabelle said, "Couldn’t help them much since I don’t know this place to well anyway." She added. It was odd to hear someone actually calling her Isabelle. Most people really did call her Izzy, but she didn’t mind much anyway. She found it nice to hear it since she hadn‘t for so long.
