His tongue instinctively flicked in and out as he stepped outside, taking in the tastes that floated through the air. It was a simple but important instinctive action that he automatically did, his emerald reptilian eyes looked over everything as he walked past.

Then his eyes fell on someone, a girl, a bit younger than him. He was immediately curious, because she was not so different from him, she had scales, reptilian eyes, a snake being, though her lower half was completely serpent. Tilting his head, he approached her slowly, holding a large note in front of his chest: "hello, I am Joran. I hope I'm not interrupting."

When one saw Joran, there were a few things they usually notuced, one his age was difficult to tell, they usually guessed from thirteen to fifteen, the other, was his intelligent eyes. His eyes showed intelligence, curiosity and all the emotions his face often failed to show. @Pallas

Iesha was just trying to slither around her fellow students, trying to find a path within the crowd without bumping into anyone. While she likes to think that she has come out of her shell a little, she is still very much apprehensive when it comes to starting conversations with other people. Most people here are friendly but... every time she wants to talk to them she would always invent an excuse. She was hoping to maybe try to find her friends Dalia or Ravina or maybe Jax and Orsick. But as she tried to slide on by, she was approached by boy slightly older than her with a large note.

At first, she thought that it was a sign for... some advertisement but when she read them out she realized it was question... but it was directed to her? In disbelief, she points to herself as she stares at the boy in front of her.

"M-m-me?" she quietly ask... her shaky voice somehow coming off as both hopeful and terrified.

Joran nodded slowly and quickly wrote out another card, "I am new to the island and am trying to be more social." He flicked his tongue, "I hope the cards are not a bother, I am unable to speak," he motioned to his throat, deciding it was best to leave the details of his injury unsaid for now.

He tilted his head, his eyes shinning with friendliness though his face not showing much, "I hope I am not a bother," he didn't want to bother or scare people, he wanted friends, even if relationships confused him at times. "I've had difficulty communicating with people, somewhat for the obvious reasons," he gestured to the stack of note cards under his arms.

"I know sign, but not many do, so the notes are necessary," in truth he was frustrated with them, but he did what he had to do.

Iesha nods apprehensively to Joran, secretly wondering why he approached her out of all people. While she wasn't as much of a newcomer as Joran is, she still struggled to socially even if she has made some steps to changing that. While she does have a few close friends, she is too skittish and afraid of offending people to try to converse with people naturally. So for Joran to come to her to try to be more social was... ironic she thinks the word was?

"O-ohh! O-okay..." mummered Iesha as Joran explained his use of notes which now made a lot more sense. She was glad that he didn't go into details about why it was he lost his voice... she could only assume the worst after the horrors that she had witnessed.

"O-oh... ummm n-n-new? Ummm... welcome? I mean... w-welcome to ummm... school?" replied Iesha, she wanted to sound genuine in her greeting but she couldn't help but being a bit nervous as Joran was but a stranger to her still.

"I-its not a bother..." smile Iesha, though this this statement wasn't completely true. While she welcomed the opportunity to converse with other students... she herself never knew what quite to say to people and was always afraid that she would somehow mess things up.

"I... sort of under... under... u-understand. E-english not first l-langauge ssso... so sssomet-times I... I m-messsss up words wrong. B-but... ummm... I know... a f-few signs in ummm... sssign language." admitted Iesha, trying to empathize with the snake boy. It was only a handful of words and letters that she knew from a mermaid who lost had lost her voice back in her time in captivity. Well not from the mermaid directly, she only put together a few words with hand shapes when she asked her friend Arman to translated the mermaid int he cage across was saying. She sort of regretted it... most of what she said was depressing and heartbreaking.
