This outing was so close to a date that she had to emphatically remind herself that it was not a date. Just because Caius had taken her out to dinner didn't mean that it was a date, as much as she wanted it to be. She could never tell what he was thinking, or how he felt...and it drove her crazy. His face was always so mysteriously stoic, but sometimes when he softened a little around the eyes and the corners of his lips pulled up into a smile...the expression just made her heart melt into a big puddle of warm goo.

She realized that she was staring at him and broke her gaze elsewhere, looking instead at the wall behind him where various stuffed animal heads and horns were mounted. "Y-yeah. Me too," she replied.

The arrival of their food saved her from her own awkwardness and gave her something legitimate to focus on. Unfortunately, though, the presence of the food was short-lived. Sofia had been hungrier than she'd thought, and made quick work of both burgers and a plate of fries. Feeling full and satisfied, she leaned back in her chair and finally relaxed her shoulders.

She wasn't sure what she enjoyed more; the meal, or the walk home with Caius. She liked being close to him, with her fingers tucked into the crook of his arm and her hip occasionally brushing against his while they strolled through the cooling twilight. This must have been what pure happiness felt like...she hadn't felt this way before in her life, not even for the boyfriends she'd had in the past, back when she was human.

Once they returned home, Sofia wandered into the kitchen and quietly started unloading the dishwasher. She was full, happy, and a little sleepy...but it needed to be done, or else she would sit up all night thinking about how she needed to unload the dishwasher. She went up on her toes to push a glass into its place on a shelf and reached for another.

It had been a lovely evening, he'd dinner with a.....a friend? In truth Caius wasn't sure what to call her, friend seemed inadequate, she was like family in a way, but there was something more.

They'd walked, the cool summer air was pleasant and they walked and talked. He hadn't this much in years, it felt good spending time with her, having someone to talk to. In general he wasn't the most open person, but he was comfortable around her, more so than he'd been with anyone for a long time.

Arriving home, the slipped into the house, and she went to the kitchen. Normally he tried to be forward about things, maybe a bit blunt at times, but sometimes even he wasn't sure what to say, how to feel.

He tilted his head, his nose twitching as he picked up the scents of soap as Sofia unloaded the dishwasher. Humming quietly in thought, he slipped into the kitchen with her and silently started helping her put the dishes away.

She glanced over her shoulder at Caius as he joined her in the kitchen and offered a soft smile before returning to her work. He didn't have to help her, but with two, the work would certainly go faster. Sofia worked alongside him in amicable silence, occasionally picking up a dish towel in order to dry off a cup or a bowl before storing it.

Reaching for a glass, Sofia's hand landed on his and she froze. Her stormy blue-and-grey eyes rose slowly to meet his and the blood rushed to her cheeks as her face flushed. She felt her pulse pick up, her stomach doing little flips as a rush of tingles shot down her spine. "Sorry," she bit her lip and pulled her hand away, going for another glass instead.

Action speaks louder than words, it was an old saying, one that Caius had lived by most of his life. He'd never been much of talker, he showed what he thought, what he felt through the things he did as words often failed him.

His eyes never left her, his thoughts seemed to fade away, as if his mind didn't quite understand what he was feeling. Emotions were said to come from the mind but so often they came in conflict, causing confusion. In this case, the brain was letting the emotions take charge.

Reaching out, he gently took her hand in his, "Sofia," he said her name in a soft voice. Words were failing him again, like they had so often in the past, so he acted, he leaned in and gently kissed her.

His large hand closed over hers and she looked up at him again. Her insides shook a little as he said her name and she tilted her head at him quizzically before his lips landed on hers. The world came to a screeching halt for a few seconds as her heart fluttered wildly in her chest. Her mouth softened against his. She waited to wake up from her delusion, but it just kept on going.

She slipped around the dishwasher without breaking contact to get closer to him, bringing the hand that held hers to her waist while her free hand landed gently on his shoulder. How many times had she dreamed of something like this happening? Did he know that she pined for him when he was away? His scent filled her lungs as she breathed him in, a familiar musk of wolf and man.

Sofia wasn't sure how much time had passed when she finally pried herself away from his kiss to look at him, her expression a mixture of bewilderment and desire. "I love you," she blurted out suddenly, and blushed with the realization that the words had come from her lips. Sofia glanced away, clearly embarrassed with herself.

She loved him, she'd said the words that were expected in this situation, those three words. Caius didn't say them, again action spoke louder than words, they always had and they likely always would.

So, gently turn her back toward him, he looked into her eyes, his own were red, often sharp, but now they were soft, full of affection. And then he kissed her again. His arms wrapped around her small body and held her close.

Caius hadn't felt this way in a long time, it'd been years since someone had caught his eye like this, a very long time. He broke this kiss, his face still soft and full of affection. Yes, he was happy they'd found their way to each other.
