With the stock in the fridge running low, Sofia had made another trip to the grocery store. Caius had tagged along, a rare occurrence, since she was used to going alone while he was out of town. They'd chatted pleasantly about his latest mission while they made the walk out there - Sofia preferred to walk, and it wasn't ridiculously far, anyways. It was nice to have company, especially his. It wasn't much of a secret anymore that Sofia had a fondness for Caius - she only hoped that one day he would notice it.

"How long will you be staying this time?" Sofia asked as they entered the store. She hoped he would be around for a little while longer than usual, at least. Things could get a little lonely, being the only one in the house. She really needed to pick up some hobbies, maybe learn how to paint or play an instrument...knit, or something. Mostly she read books in her spare time when she wasn't playing house. It was a decent way to pass the time, she supposed. Sometimes she played on the computer in the study, too, but it wouldn't really ever hold her attention for more than an hour or so.

Caius wasn't completely sure why he'd come along, normally he'd have stayed home, rested from his trip. Yet, he decided to come for reason he didn't really understand. He'd had a desire to be around Sofia more.

He glanced at her, "hard to say, other scouts will likely step up for any missions that pop up until I'm rested," he said as he entered the store with her. "So, I shouldn't be needed unless its an emergency," his nose twitched as it picked up the scents of the store.

His eyes found their way back to her, "summer here, so a break would be nice," he hadn't had a real vacation in a long time. Caius followed her through the store, "I'm grateful.....for you doing all this."

Sofia hooked a basket in the crook of her arm and nodded quietly in response, taking in the various scents of the store. People, produce...it was a familiar mix to her, but probably mostly new to Caius - he didn't come here nearly as often as she did. Sofia made her way to the usual spots - the deli was first. The attendants there recognized her by name and order - it was always the same.

"It's the least I can do for all you do for me," Sofia responded as the attendants prepared the meat, slicing it with that big, dangerous-looking machine. Besides, it was his money that paid for all of the food...Sofia was just the one that went and got it. The lady at the counter handed her a few packages of paper-wrapped steaks and eyed Caius, then smiled brightly at Sofia as though she knew something, but said nothing and went about her own business. Sofia raised an eyebrow. That was weird.

"It'll be nice to have you around more," she added as they walked away from the deli counter and into the produce section. "It gets a little lonely sometimes, being in that big house all by myself." She fought back a light blush as she leaned over some apples and scented out the good ones.

Caius noticed the woman giving that unusual smile. In truth he didn't give much thought it, people were strange, especially on Manta Carlos. "Yeah, I'm looking forward to some time off," he glanced her, "well you won't have to worry about that for a while."

His eyes looked over the store as they walked. "Perhaps we can a do a few things, there's a lot to do in this city," he smiled briefly, "see a few sights..get dinner," he cared for Sofia, maybe more than he was ready to admit just yet.

He stayed close to Sofia as they walked, he was a rather large man so moving through the some of the store's areas were a little awkward. "I honestly haven't really explored the city since I was younger."

Sofia put a few apples in one of those plastic bags that were scattered around the produce section and moved on, examining a box of strawberries before adding that to the basket on her arm, too. Balance in a diet was healthy, and with all the meat that they usually ate, she tried to put fruits and vegetables in their meals as well. She collected a few more things from the produce section - potatoes, carrots, things that went well in stew...before moving on to the meat section to stock up on what they were mostly running low on.

She smiled as his suggestion, and felt a small tickle in her stomach that made her pulse pick up just a little bit. "That would be nice. I don't do much exploring myself, this is my most frequent stop away from the house," she admitted, a little sheepishly. Maybe she should really look into getting a job or something like that. She had so many skills that were going unused right now.

The young woman led the larger man around the store as she picked up this and that before finally heading to checkout. Most of the people here recognized her by now. The young man at the checkout counter who looked to be a few years younger than she gave Caius a strange look...her nose picked up the sharp scent of jealousy. Weird.

They made the walk back home and Sofia started to put the groceries away, flitting about the kitchen between the bags on the counter and the pantry and fridge. "Where would you like to go for dinner?" she asked as she put a few packages of steaks into the fridge's meat drawer and then reached blindly to the counter next to her to grab another fridge-related item.

Where should they go? As he had said, he hadn't explored the city in some time, he had always stuck around the house and the forest when not off island on missions. Then it hit him, he'd heard of a place, someone at the school had mentioned it.

"I have a place in mind Sofia," he said with a smile and a twinkle in his eye. He didn't know why, but he was really excited for this, he hadn't enjoyed a night out in ages.

So he lead her into the city, he even offered her his arm to hold. Such a thing could be done platonically right? They chatted as they walked, nothing of significance, but he enjoyed it.

Then they arrived, a nice place, popular among carnivorous shifters, The Big Bad Wolf. "Hope you don't mind, its a new place." Smiling he lead her in, they were quickly seated, "thank you for coming Sofia."

She'd finished storing groceries in their proper place and had time to change into a nicer shirt before they went out on the town, with her on his arm. She wondered if they looked like a couple, or if she looked too young for that. Despite their age difference, Sofia had developed a fondness for Caius, and she liked to think that he had a bit of a soft spot for her, too.

The name of the restaurant they ended up at was interesting, to say the least. Perhaps it was appropriate considering what they both were. "Of course," she replied as she sat across from him and glanced over the menu...which she also deemed appropriate for the restaurant name, since it seemed to consist of mostly meat. They sat quietly for a while before she spoke up, "I saw that there's an opening at the school for a guidance counselor. I've been thinking about applying. It might be nice to have something to do outside of the house. I miss working with kids."

"A counselor," he nodded thoughtfully, "that's good work, helping the children." He smiled, "we'd be coworkers then," chuckled slightly, he tapped his finger, "a lot of the kids I bring to the island need help....you'll be do going a great thing."

He took a sip of his water, "I'd probably have a few meetings with you, give you reports about the newcomers." Caius looked at her, "you're a good fit for it, caring and kind," she was special, even he had to admit it.

The waiter appeared and he quickly ordered his food, "living together, working together," he chuckled slightly, "can't seem to get rid of each other," he said with a smile that showed he was joking.

Sofia blushed a little at his assessment of her, glancing down at her menu to recover from the way her face flushed, though if he were paying attention, doubtless he would have seen it anyways. She ordered two burgers, cooked rare...the full moon was getting closer and it made her appetite more ravenous. Sofia smiled and gave a light laugh at his joke. "I certainly hope you don't want to get rid of me." She bit her lip and went quiet for a moment, glancing downwards.

His hand was sitting right there across the table from her. Within her reach. She wanted to reach out and grab it. Her pulse skipped a little. It was so hard for her to try and figure out how to tell Caius that she was quite possibly in love with him, mostly because she just didn't know how to put it. She wasn't good at this sort of thing, even if she was better at communicating than he was. Sofia put her hands in her lap in an attempt to get rid of the temptation of reaching out and taking his hand in hers, but the urge was still there.

Recovering, she tried to wipe the blush from her face, but to no avail. "How..." she swallowed and tried again, "How has work been going for you?"

He noticed the blush, it was hard to hide things from his sharp eyes. Caius wasn't really sure what could of caused it, he supposed his praised may have embarrassed her.

"Work has been good," he took a sip of his water, "no missions for me lately, few meetings at the school and that's about it." He'd enjoyed being home more, it was nice being around the house, being around her, "I enjoy my work, but its been nice having time off."

Caius tilted his head very slightly, "I'll be looking forward to working with you." He smiled softly, he enjoyed being around, she made simple things like dinner wonderful somehow.
