Delaney scrolled through her messages while waiting. With voice commands she opened her texts and listened to them at low volume as Ida went through the line and ordered. She lost track of the time listening to her friend's texts. It was when she ran out of new messages that she wondered where her "guardian angel" went.

She started to call out for Ida, only to realize that she didn't really have her angel's name and felt awkward shouting that out loud. "Maybe they went to the restroom." Dela said to Georgette. "I think I've been a little unfair to her, really." She continued, "All that walking around made me a little grumpy. I didn't even say please and thank you and my pa and ma raised me better than that."

Not long after that little talk she heard someone approach and smiled when she heard Ida's voice. "Aw, thanks!' Delaney manged to grab both her water cup and change with minimal blind flailing. The money was carefully set into her wallet and she finished the whole cup in three huge gulps. "So where'd the staff say the Overflow was?" She asked with no trace of her earlier frustration. "Hopefully not too far from here."

Ida was pleasantly surprised when Delaney seemed to be in a better mood than before. She didn’t even seem particularly bothered by how long all of that took it the missing change either, which was nice.

“Yeah, they said to go right, then we just wait three left turns until the fourth and we take that. Then the Overflow is just supposed to be along that street a little ways in I think.” Ida had actually paid attention well enough to remember all that. Even if it wasn’t that much, she was impressed with herself.

She sat down and took out a donut again, then looked at Delaney and let out a quiet sigh. “Here’s y’ur donut.” She held it out, waiting before grabbing her own and taking a bite.

It tasted pretty good actually .

Delaney nodded along, locking those directions into memory. "Awesome!" She paused when Ida offered a donut. It was. . . really sweet. "Aw shucks," Delaney said as she took the offered donut. "That was nice of you. And look, I'm sorry for getting mad earlier. It's been a long day and you've helped me out a lot. I'm really thankful for that so, thanks!"

She nibbled on her donut and offered a small piece to Georgette who gently ate from her hands. "I don't think I got your name yet. It's okay if you, like, don't want to share."

Ida wore a confused somewhat defensive expression as she was told it was nice of her to offer the donut? She was the one that paid for it, why the hell was she acting all thankful about it. Then the sorry about earlier and the thanks? This girl was crazy or something. Ida had practically ditched her alone at the store and made off with her money and she was none the wiser. This was exactly why she couldn't go through with it. Delaney was way too easy pickings for her taste. "It's whatever... Don't mention it."

The imp finished the last bite of her donut as Delaney mentioned her name, chewing it before answering. "It's... Ida." Sharing her name didn't come lightly. More than a handful of the island's residents knew her as a nuisance now so there was always a risk. Delaney wouldn't be able to pair the name with her appearance though so Ida figured it was probably fine.

She stretched and got up, placing the bag the donuts were in back on a table rather than throwing them out. "Alright, ready to go when you are."

Delaney finished her donut around the same time as Ida did her's and smiled at the name of her little angel. "Well, it's nice to meet you, Ida. I'm ready." Georgette guided her to the door where she felt around for the trash bin to toss out her empty cup. "Go right then pass the next three lefts." Delaney said, more to remind herself. She headed off the the right, but only when she was sure Ida was following. Blind or not, she didn't want to be rude and leave her behind.

"Been on the island long?" Delaney asked while they walked. "I've only been around a few months myself and I love it here. There's so much cool stuff to see and do. Not to mention all the parks and public spaces." The city was easy to walk and navigate. . . well, in the main areas it was easy to navigate.

Ida followed Delaney out, eyeing a donut with a bite taken out that was now getting pecked at by a pigeon. Ida turned right with her and then looked towards the first left instead, listening to what she was asking.

“Time is weird here, but I think that’s about how long I’ve been here too. I think... I dunno about there being a lot here. You need money for a lot of stuff so there ain’t really a whole lot unless you’re rich.” Ida certainly couldn’t say she loved it here, though she wasn’t about to explain everything she didn’t like about the place. She restrained herself to complaining about money.

Delaney hummed in agreement to the money part. "Yeah, some stuff takes a lot of cash. But-" She grinned, "It's all about working the system. I grew up dirt poor." She began to explain. "Like, we couldn't afford anything nice, so me and my siblings learned how to get the most out of our money. Like, buy your stuff from second-hand stores, wait for sales or discount days. Do quick and easy jobs for quick cash.

"Like, I would add embroidery to backpacks or cloth purses for some extra cash. Which, I should totally start doing again. But, like, the school gives me an allowance to, like, buy a burger or something in town. I can get a shirt for two dollars at the thrift store, use two dollars worth of embroidery floss on it then sell it for, I don't know, seven or eight dollars. That's a three to four dollar profit. So, like, I can ten dollars into twenty."

Delaney walked past the first left, "And if I can master sewing again I could really turn old clothes around into more money. People love handcrafted stuff and they love recylced stuff. Brand the shirts as both and people will eat it up." This was clearly something Dela has put thought into. Not to mention the fact that who wouldn't want to buy stuff from the blind girl?

Delaney was optimistic, maybe a bit too much so as far as Ida was concerned but it was a nice thought. Perhaps one day she could learn to play the system.

“Embroidery is like sewing right?” The word was one she recognized from an old friend having used it but hadn’t heard in ages. “Don’t you need to like... see for that. anytime I’ve watched someone sew they’ve been watchin’ what they’re doin’ pretty close like.” She couldn’t imagine anyone doing it without their eyes.

they passed the second left without Ida really mentioning it but she did notice.

Delaney really had to resist the urge to go in-depth on how she relearned to embroider. She was really proud of how she figured it all out but not exactly the thing to go into when she needed to pay attention to her surroundings. "I had to relearn." Delaney said, "I make designs with a 3D pen, so like, it draws with plastic string, and then I use a grid system so I can feel where I'm at.

"Sewing I need to get into again. I was pretty good at it before, not to brag or anything." She said with a grin, so, totally bragging. "If you're interested in this kind of stuff I could totally teach you. I learned from all my older siblings so I got, like, the wisdom of all whose gone before me." Delaney noted the third left and was ready to make the turn at the next intersection.

Ida squinted for most of the explanation, trying to picture how any of that would work. The 3D pen thing sounded bizarre until a not so correct realization popped into her head. Delaney meant a magic wand, she must’ve used magic somehow. It was likely the same with whatever the grid system thing was.

Ida would’ve never accepted the offer to have Delaney teach her to sew, not in a million years. At least, she wouldn’t have if it didn’t strike a weak spot in her armor. So many times, that other person from forever ago had offered the same thing, and Ida had always refused. She said sewing was stupid but mostly just knew she didn’t have the patience or effort for something like that.

“Yeah, whatever, maybe-Oh, there, we turn there!” She pointed again to the path they needed to take, turning to head down the street and making sure Delaney followed. “We just gotta stay on here now and eventually we hit it I think.”
