Name: Shika Tsa'vi
Age: 17 (approximately 12 and a half mentally)
Birthday: September 8th
Gender: Female
Species: Sugar Dragon (Mint)
Category: Student
Class: High School
Grade: Remedial
Sexuality: Asexual
Appearance Description:
(Art by Stitchy-Face, used with permission)
Dragon Form: Shika's proportions and general build are quite similar to many other dragons one might see on the island, with one very particular difference: She's no larger than an average labrador retriever. Her scales follow a typical candy cane striped pattern in some areas, with others having larger patches of red or white. Her underbelly is a bright white and speckled with tiny black dots reminiscent of vanilla bean flecks in ice cream. Shika's horns are reasonably short and peppermint striped, jutting up and back from her brow with only a slight curve. Her eyes are a glittery, saturated candy-apple red tone; patches of pure white sit above them and look vaguely like eyebrows. Shika's tongue is striped with the same pattern that's found many other places on her body. Her teeth are quite sharp, and reminiscent in appearance to crystallized sugar, very similarly to her claws. A small number of stubby sugar spines (different from the ones that pop out of her skin when threatened, and not venomous) sprout out behind her horns and trail down along her spine, stopping around her hind legs.
Human Form: Shika is reasonably easy to identify in her human form. Her eyes remain largely the same, though they have a slightly more copper hue to them. Her hair is a sparkly, sugary silver-white, reaching down about a foot below her waist, and is usually adorned with red and white bows of varying sizes. She stands at about 4'10", and is of a generally petite build. Her skin is pale, though not to the point of looking unhealthy, and is flecked with what looks like clear glitter, but this is in fact due to the presence of tiny sugar crystals. Her typical outfits consist of of neutral colored, long sleeved button shirts, and loose, baggy pants held up by suspenders. Naturally, her favorite color combination is white and red, though she delves into different color territory on occasion. Shika isn't overly fond of accessorizing in general, and any jewelry or other items she wears are spare, minus her typical bows. She seems to be fond of floppy high-top shoes, a pair of bows matching those in her hair stuck onto their fronts.
Personality Description: Shika is, for better or for worse, an eternal optimist. She's easily able to pick out the silver lining in even the least appealing of situations, assuming she hasn't convinced herself the entire cloud isn't silver. She's amicable to most people as long as they aren't directly threatening to her, and though her pride is somewhat easily bruised, she does her best to hide this and appear courageous and strong. Shika is incredibly inquisitive and eager to explore, the pursuit of new knowledge and experiences is one of her greatest driving forces. Shika is quite loyal to the people she befriends, in some cases her attachment could even be called clingy. She sticks close to the people she puts her trust in, and very little can be done to change her mind about somebody once she's made it up the first time. Perhaps worth mention is that once she establishes a friendship with somebody, her trust in them tends to run deep, and as a result she's liable to be taken advantage of, to a certain extent. Also, she's able to be bribed very effectively with any and all kinds of chocolate.
Species Abilities: Shika is a sugar dragon, specifically a peppermint dragon. As such, she is of course capable of flight, with her slender and aerodynamic body structure lending itself wonderfully to this. She typically flies at a cruising speed between 70-80 miles per hour, but can briefly reach up to 180 miles per hour while in a sharp dive. Her scales are tough, but are more comparable to very strong leather than the armored hides many other dragons boast. Her belly in particular is very soft and vulnerable to damage. Shika's scales/skin are sweet, and her blood is essentially liquid sugar, crystallizing into sharp clumps similar in effect to caltrops when exposed to air for a few seconds. Shika's dragon form is her default, her transformation is facilitated by her coating herself in an opaque sugar shell reminiscent of an egg, taking about three minutes to complete as well as her entire sugar reserve. Her breath, passively, is perpetually minty fresh.
As an automatic response to strong fear or danger, sharp spines of hardened, crystallized sugar extend from her body along her the back half of her body. These spines are roughly three inches in her human form, and just short of six inches each in her dragon form, and inject a powerfully concentrated sugar venom if they pierce skin. This substance produces symptoms similar to hyperglycemia, the main difference being that it's almost immediate: dizziness, jitters, blurred vision, dehydration, headaches, and shortness of breath in lower doses, and at its highest is capable of putting somebody into a literal sugar coma, possibly being fatal after approximately an hour if they don't receive proper medical attention to. Of course, this has no effect on those that don't rely on blood circulation to regulate their bodies.
Powers: Sugar Breath - It should could as no surprise that in addition to many of her other traits being sugar related, so too is her natural breath ability. Shika's most common application of this is in expelling a cone of crystalline sugar mist, up to a maximum range of thirty feet wide and fifty feet long. On making contact with most any solid surfaces, usually the floor or a person, it begins to form into a smooth, solid crystal state, similar in durability to industrial glass, but she is capable of making it either extremely slick or sticky. It takes roughly fifteen seconds for the mist to fully harden at room temperature, though it's almost instantaneous at freezing temperatures. Depending on the heat, it can take up to a minute and a half for the mist to harden. If it's hotter than 200 degrees fahrenheit, the mist won't be able to take shape at all, and instead disperses entirely. Instead of spraying an area with mist, Shika can opt to condense her breath ahead of time into dense, eight-inch long icicle-esque spikes; she can create up to five of them at once and she is accurate in launching them up to one hundred yards at a speed roughly two-thirds that of an arrow. These suffer the same ill effects regarding heat as her mist, and though they won't melt entirely right away they can be reduced to sticky goop if it's hot enough. In all forms, her sugar breath is entirely edible, and it has difficulty forming a complete seal around exceedingly rough surfaces. Additionally, Shika needs to consume sugar as a sort of fuel for this, and can store enough for seven uses at maximum range before needing to recharge. She's able to use her sugar breath in human form, but it's far less efficient, and she's only able to use it four times before recharging; she also needs to eat twice as much sugar to get back to full capacity.
Biography: Shika hails from a world known as Phiros, where essentially anything and everything is related to some sort of food in terms of both appearance and function. Divided up into provinces based on its flora, fauna, and inhabitants, even the landscape itself reflects the nature of the creatures that make their home there. Territories of dairy, vegetables, grains, fruits, and much more dot the world, with the borders of each province determined by how large the variety of each respective food is in our world. Shika was born in the province of sugar, inhabited by all manner of sweet creatures, both sentient and non-sentient.
The Tsa'vi clan is the largest group of dragons in Phiros' sugar territory, and among the largest throughout all other territories as well. They are not, however, the same sort of apex predators they might be seen as in many other contexts. The largest of sugar dragons barely surpass the size of a St. Bernard, and as such they have adapted to a cautionary way of life, scavenging most of the time and only hunting when strictly necessary, and never far beyond the edges of their nesting ground. Shika, however, was never keen to follow this way of life, causing trouble and setting out on potentially dangerous adventures from a very young age. As time wore on, her clan's elders grew increasingly impatient with her antics, though there was little they could do to punish her with any lasting effect.
Not very long before now, Shika finally went too far in the eyes of her clan's elders, and went off alone on by far her most dangerous expedition. Shika had always been immensely curious about this forbidden place, this adventure that would surely be worthy of song: Meat Country. A reasonably small but incredibly hostile province, teeming with hulking behemoths of muscle who could think of nothing but ravenously attacking and eating anything that crossed their path, typically each other. She was well aware of the danger but her inquisitive spirit could not be swayed. After nearly a month missing from her clan without a word, she finally returned, starving, terrified, and wholly ashamed. She had nearly been trampled or eaten more times than she could count on all her claws, and as expected, the elders were furious.
Knowing fully well that they could no longer trust her to be on her own, but not wishing to simply chain her in place at the nesting grounds, the elder council decided the best course of action was to consult the clan's chief mystic. Using her scrying orb to peer across many worlds, the mystic set her gaze on Manta Carlos after a week of searching. She and the elders all agreed that this would be an excellent learning opportunity for her, somewhere safe to put her while maintaining some modicum of freedom, as well as saving all of them a significant number of headaches. Affixing a time-sensitive rune on her heart-scale that wouldn't allow her to return back home by any means for two years, she was cast through a one way portal to the island, tumbling and warping through countless realities on her way to her new home. As she fell, the young dragon could only consider one thing: Would she be able to cause mischief here, too?
