There was something wrong with Avery's room.

She sensed it as soon as she stepped inside. Carelessly, she let her backpack slip off her shoulder so that it fell to the carpet with a whumph. There it lay forgotten, along with her luggage, which she left just outside the doorway in a good position to get in the way of anyone trying to pass by. Maybe someone would get stopped in the hall by her bags, and poke their head in to see what was going on. Maybe that's exactly what she wanted to happen.

But not consciously. No, in her own rational mind she was on the hunt. There was something off about the room, and she wasn't liking the dark feeling coming off from the room connected to hers either. Dark things with dark secrets had been in these rooms, she was sure of it.

Wasting no time, Avery switched her normal glasses for her 'special' glasses, the ones with a tiny recording lens hidden on the bridge. She always wore them on her investigations, since she never knew when she would stumble on some amazing evidence and need to get it on film. No one could ever accuse her of making stuff up if she had video proof of it all.

With her investigator glasses ready to go, Avery began a sweep of the room. She ran her hands over every object of furniture, drawing in little gasps of shock whenever she got a particularly evil feeling off of something. The bed was full of memories of horrible nightmares; the desk a cloud of torturous exhaustion from students who had wasted away working on homework through the night, the bookshelf had seen horrific tomes of tainted knowledge.

After she had scanned each of the objects in the room with her psychometry, she stood in the center of the room and did a slow turn, looking at it all. They had been here. Maybe they were even still using her room as a secret meeting spot. The thought of evil, robed psychic cultist alien demons using her room for their dark rituals made her skin crawl. But how could they come and go here? Surely they wouldn't walk openly through the halls of the dormitory. No... she felt something... different.

"The walls... they come through the walls!" Avery exclaimed, hitting her fist against the palm of her hand. She hadn't checked whether anyone was watching her, but deep inside she hoped someone was. The words were more for a bystander's benefit, than her own.

She pushed her bed, the desk and the bookshelf away from the walls so she could run her hands over the wallpaper. Closing her eyes, she focused on the dark energies she felt. No, not here. Maybe the connected room?

Without so much as knocking, she opened the connecting door and went in. Her new room-mate didn't appear to be there yet, which gave Avery an odd feeling of disappointment. Still, she had to find the secret entrance they were using to enter these rooms. Just like she had in her own room, she pushed the bed, desk and bookshelves away from the walls so she could run her hands over every inch of the wallpaper, looking for telltale signs of a secret entrance.

She was so caught up in her inspection, she certainly wouldn't have heard or sensed anyone coming into the room behind her turned back...
