Ria was eternally grateful for the academy for offering free food for it's students. Ria's body required her to consume an unsual amount of calories or she would lose muscle mass and energy. Just the snacks that kept her body running cost Ria a good chunk of her allowance. She really needed to get a job...
Ria was in line getting food, her tray already full of food. If Ria looked around she could've seen some people making suspicious glances at her tray and then at her. Ria was in her human charm, very curvy but ahtletic looking pretty girl who was basically trying to collect enough food on her tray ro resolve the world hunger. Must've been a strange sight. But Ria didn't look, and if she had noticed people's gazes she wouldn't have cared in the slightest.

Ria had made the unfortunate notion, that she couldn't properly intake the calories in her human form without gaining a considerable amount of weight. In her human form Ria didn't have the muscles that absorbed all that extra load. So Ria had adopted the habit of eating in her normal form. Honestly, she preferred her human charm since everything was easier like that, more efficient. But at the same time it mafe Ria uncomfortable, like she was cheating somehow.
Ria stacked the last part of her meal onto the plate and separated herself from the lunch line. It was a busy hour and there were barely any seats. Actually, Ria could only see two empty seats, a table meang for two by the window. Ria didn't know how by some miracle such a good spot was still free but she didn't question it. During her short time here Ria had learned lunch time was war. And she always won. Ria sprinted and was able to secure the table. Just in time too, since Ria saw some other people had been trying to get the table as well. Ria sent them a smug smile and got some annoyed glares back. But Ria didn't care.

Ria slipped off her human charm before sitting down. In the blink of an eye she was her usual height again, covered in light blue fur and her big fluffy ears twitched a bit as the sounds and smells of the cafeteria hit her with their full force, as she got her normal senses back. Ria climbed onto the chair and stood on it, since she couldn't exactly sit down. If she did Ria would barely reach her tray.
Ria dug right in, and since she was famished the barely remembered to try to be civil. Ria got immersed in eating and she didn't pay much attention to her surroundings, concentrating on consuming the calories yo keep her going.

John lived on his own, had a job and an apartment, but doing all that plus school made getting groceries a bit difficult, so he always took up the chance to get food from the school. So he'd show up, gather his food, and start to look for a place to sit, not an easy goal given how many students were currently present.

Then he spotted a girl, she was attractive, and she had a empty seat beside her and then something even more interesting happened. The girl shifted, or more she removed her charm, turning into that fascinating girl he'd sparred with, he still wasn't sure what she was, he'd assumed some sort of goblin.

Humming in thought he slipped over to her as she started eating and took the empty seat, "hope you don't mind, looked like you could use some company." He'd flash a grin at her, "how you doing? Haven't seen you since we sparred."

Ria had to applaud that the quality of the food was as high as it was taking into accord that this was an educational institution. Ria had done some pop culture investigating and had went into some cultural classes so she was aware school cafeteria usually, well, sucked. Ria wasn't one to take all rumours seriously, she wasn't an idiot, but after so many people backed up a statement it should have some credibility.
She was wolfing down her food, her hair unusually in a high ponytail instead of twintails. Twintails could get in the way of eating. Ria had also put her bangs up with pins, since she was going to go on a run in her human form after this. She needed to build up muscle for her human form as well. Couldn't stay weak and measly forever. Although Ria was aware her strength level was quite high for a human female. But human females were weak.

Ria wasn't that surprised when someone sat opposite to her. It was one of the few seats left, after all. But when Ria looked up she was glad she didn't have any food in her mouth since she sputtered a bit before she could stop herself. Just her, excuse my language, fucking luck.
"Y-you? Why are you here? There?"
Ria blinked at John, not in control of her face for a second so her expression was that of confusion and slight, maybe little positive, surprise. His grin had some kind of flashback effect on her since she suddenly remembered their spar session. The slight blush was hidden under her fur.
But Ria soon got her face under control again and her brows furrowed in irritation.
"You are a student? Well, naturally you're a student, most of the people on this island are students."
Ria sighed a bit. She looked around, trying to find free seats. But there were none left, and as soon as some freed up new people took them. Another stroke of luck. Ria looked back at John and squinted slightly, suspicious.
"And what do you mean I looked like I could use company? I was just enjoying my food. Well, not anymore."
Ria humphed a bit and began eating again, accepting John's existence since it seemed he wasn't going anywhere. And trying to keep her thoughts on the present.

He'd chuckle just a bit, "good to see you too Ria," he's give her a smile and take a bite of his food. "Yup, college student, got a job and an apartment but don't always have time to go shopping," he'd take a sip of his drink, "besides, the food here is good and looks like I've found good company today."

John's smile never faded, even as Ria tried to be harsh with her words, she was definitely a feisty individual, something he liked. "Speaking of school," he'd tilt his head and looked at her curiously, "what do you think of it? Starlight Academy is an interesting place to say the least," he'd adapted rather quickly, he supposed being the physical incarnation of death prepped one for any future oddities he encountered.

The young man would eat a bit of his food, "I've bee here for a while now, seen dragons, gods," he'd look over at her, "and of course a certain feisty, fighty girl who seems rather fun," he'd say, giving her a small grin.

Ria raised a brow slightly at John, why did he share all this knowledge? Was it somehow relevant? Ria sure hoped he didn't expect her to share as much. She would rather not share personal knowledge of herself to someone who knew how she fought. But despite saying that Ria did not regret their spar, it had been a good experience.
"I'm doubting your judgement if you consider me good company. Certain types of people tolerate my company and you are clearly not included in that group."
Ria took a bite of her food too, considerably larger bite than John.
"But I do agree that the food here is good. Although I have nothing to compare it to."

Ria squinted at John again, she did not trust him. She did not trust anyone aside from her family and most of her people. Ria refused to let John's unfazed smile irritate or touch her in any way and ate some of her food, listening to John talk.
"Starlight academy has served my purposes well, for me. I don't regret coming here."
Ria chose her words carefully, she didn't want to reveal too much.
"But whereas you say interesting I'd best describe it as chaotic. Not necessarily disorganized, but chaotic."
Ria was bad with social situations from the beginning so when she came to this island filled with all kinds of characters and personalities it overwhelmed her. At least fights were simple.

Ria refused to blush but sometimes your body just doesn't listen to you, does it? So Ria blushed a bit when John threw that horribly incorrect praise at her and then added that blasted grin on top. Ria cleared her throat and chewed a mouthful of food before answering.
"I'd imagine you would do good to seek company of one of those creatures you just listed. Because I am not 'fun' in the traditional meaning of the word. I think you should try 'bitch'. Many other people prefer that."
Ria's tone was neutral but inside she was a bit bitter that people called her a bitch. But she brought it upon herself with her poor social skills.

"Traditional?" he'd chuckle and eat a bit more of his food, "I don't think I'm traditional by any means." He'd smile at her, "I'm an aspect of death, so I'm gonna be odd and weird no matter what really." Tilting his head he'd grin a bit, already enjoying the weird banter they had going on.

"For starters....meeting someone via a sparring match," he'd lean his head on his hand and look at her, "most wouldn't call that a 'normal' way of meeting someone, but I still enjoyed and wouldn't mind doing it again."

He'd return to his food for a brief moment, eating a bit, "what about you? Do you consider yourself odd?" John would tilt his head, "I'm certainly an oddball," he'd give her a playful smirk.
