Serenity & Danger?

Serenity was sitting. Just sitting there, not listening to the music or looking at anything. Of course, she was on one of the outer balconies, the ones outside. She was looking up at the stars. Or, at least, the moon. It was a crescent, hanging just above the mountains that were lining the eastern sky. She had her head propped on her arm. Her dress was spaghetti-strapped and it went down to her shins. Although it was a deep red, a light pink swirled across it, making intricate designs. She was alone, thankfully. If she had been asked to dance by someone she did not know, she would have blushed and stuttered them to sleep.
In any case, she was almost thankful for being alone.

Danger was getting tired of all the people in the ball room. They were so crowded that everywhere he turned, he was either getting elbowed in his broken ribs, hit against his shoulder, and while he could survive it, he didn't particularily want to. So he decided to duck out.

Since it was a 'formal but not formal' occaison, Danger was wearing some of his nicer clothes. A clean white dress shirt, a pair of dark brown pants, and over the shirt, a deep maroon coat. He slipped out of the ball room onto one of the balconys to find a girl there, sitting along. Her back was to him. "Oh, I'm sorry, I.." he apologized, hoping he hadn't interupted. While he was stumbling for an apology, it clicked who it was. Serenity. Danger turned his head away from her, cursing under his breath.

It wasn't that he didn't like her, she just knew a little too much about the true him. And when somebody got that close, it was in his nature to avoid them. He mentally berated himself for not checking to see if the balcony was empty before going onto it. Ah well, too late now. He couldn't undo it.

Serenity heard Danger curse, even though it was below his breath. She knew who it was before she saw him.
"I'll leave."
She stood up, keeping her eyes low, and brushed past him. She didn't tell him, but January 1st was the anniversery of her mothers death, ten years ago. She knew it wasn't Danger's fault, it's just she didn't want to bother him anymore. She would act like she never knew him, as soon as the new year began, because he acted like he didn't like her. Plus, he always cursed when he saw her, and he always tried to avoid her.
She wanted to ask how his shoulder was doing, and if his ribs were healing well, but she thought it would be best not to strike up a conversation. Or at least, she didn't want to talk to him, because she didn't want him to start hiding his emotions again.

As she brushed past him, he caught her arm. "Wait." he paused, not letting go, even though the motion had hurt his shoulder. He looked at her, compassion in his gaze. He knew what today was. He'd been there when her mother died. Not party to it, but he'd been on the ship. No, he knew what today was. "Serenity..." his voice was low, gentle and soothing. He didn't try to cover his regret that he couldn't have saved her mother, nor the fact that at the moment, he was very confused.

He was a pirate, with a miriad of differend alter egos, but some how, she always saw through them. A scary thought, but something he couldn't just ignore. "I'm so sorry." he apologized, maybe to himself, as well as to her. The hardest thing to do was pretend that everything was allright when it wasn't. He knew that. He'd been doing the same thing. She needed a friend, and he could be that friend.

Serenity didn't look at him. At least, she tried not to. But, when he said he was sorry, she turned her head to stare at him. Joy and love filled her eyes, though the love left after a few seconds.
"T-thank you..."
She said quietly, looking back down. The clock struck eleven. Serenity broke free of him and started down to the main ballroom. To get there, she had to go down a staircase and a long hallway. Though she did not mean for it to; the way she was going would give Danger much time to catch up with her. She started down the staircase, which was a spiral. She had to go slow so she would not trip. Although her heels were nice, they were hard to walk in.

He sighed, standing and watching her walk away. He was a bit confused at her reaction to him. He'd apologized, for more than just his hiding of emotions. He knew she needed a friend, but she'd walked away from him. He looked up at the sky and shook his head. "What'd I do now?" he asked it, not expecting an answer. He sat on a chair, resting his hand on his ribs. He took in a few slow breaths, closing his eyes.

Two dark figures landed on the roof above Danger, but both were looking in the other direction.
"You let her get away!"
One said.
"I didn't know she was out there, you were watching this side!"
The other complained. The first shook his head.
"That princess is a load of trouble. If she wants to keep running away, I say we let her! We could elect a new princess!"
The other nodded.
"But it is our job to get her, so we'll just nab her when she leaves the ballroom."
The second smirked evilly.
"And then she goes back home. Most likely, she'll never see the light of day again."
The first thought of something.
"Did you see the boy she's made friends with?"
The second looked at him.
"Yea. Why do you think she's made friends with a boy who tried to kill her?"
He asked. The first one shrugged, and they both took off.

Serenity, meanwhile, was making her way around the ballroom. She wondered why she had left Danger so soon. She shook her head. He probably wanted to be alone anyway. She was heading back to her dorm to spend New Years alone. The anniversary of her mother's death wasn't anything to be celebrated.

Danger had fallen asleep when the two strangers had landed on the roof, and for some odd reason, had slept through their entire conversation.

Fallon, however, was very far from sleep. With her jeans, and a very short dress over top of them, she was bored out of her skull watching everyone else have fun in the ball room. "Perfect time for arrival. Nobody around." she shrugged, turning on her heal and heading outside to enjoy the fresh, cool air, as opposed to the stuffy inside air, that mostly smelt like people. She pulled her hair into a ponytail, and leaned on the outside wall, just out of view of the door.
