What will it be? That was the thought running ablaze through her head. Usually a favour would be simply asking another for assistance when you most need it, in return you would then offer compensation to break even. However this was a different favour, one that you needn't worry about feeling guilty. As Zachary spoke, the favour became more like a undeniable order, one which you must follow through. Of course the risk of your morals were on the line, that was if the victor had such ill intention.

She smirked at the lad. "I'm offended that such a precaution had to be mentioned, I do not seek pleasure in the demise of others" She feinted a hurt expression, but the smell of her wine betrayed her. The glass tip up to take a sip, it was soothing.

The fox gazed at Zachary, he had given her an open floor to voice herself. She raised her free index finger to hover between the two. "The victim of this game are granted a single substitute should they deem their request out of line. Only one." She declared. It was a form of a safety net for both parties, however she called it more for her sake than his.

With a slight flick she raised her head up. "The favour can be called upon any given time, whether it be at the end of this game till the day one of us no longer breathes a breath." A counter to the safety net, it gives that sense of power of choosing when. Luckily for her time will not be an issue.

From her stool she leaned forward. "If there is no more to add I suggest you make the first move, as it was your idea to begin with." She added, hiding her lower face again with her wine glass.

He listened to Savannah's alterations to the original deal and wholly agreed with them. Though she had mentioned feeling offended at his suggestion she seemed to be crossing her "i's" and dotting her "t's". He happily agreed to it smiling and wondering what his favor would be. Now was the time though to be serious and he looked her in the eyes.
"On my honor I bind myself to this deal." He said, holding his long island iced tea in hand.

Now just to think of a riddle. He had a list but he wasn't sure which of them he was going to want to use in this case.
After a moment he finally came up with an answer and a smile crossed his face as he slid his drink across the bar.
"What always runs but never walks, often murmurs, never talks, has a bed but never sleeps, has a mouth but never eats?" He offered, smiling as he did. It was a simple riddle, but the contest was joined and he was having fun.

She had almost wanted to laugh at how silly this all was, but instead she held in her outburst and settled for a brisk nod. Her tails had shook furiously, this was enjoyable she thought.

Now it had began, no turning back! Her eye lids slowly shut as the words poured out from Zachary's mouth like a flowing stream. The kitsune sat upon her stool, almost zen looking from her crossed legs and all. She repeated the phrase to herself, then she repeated it in different orders. Savannah came to the conclusion it wasn't a living animal despite the description.

Her eyes shot open and locked in with Zachary's own. "Would it be a River?" She answered. She was sure of it, for sure.

He smiled, happy that she had gotten that one. It was probably one of his favorites, something he had been unable to share until recently.
"That's right, very good. You're turn." He said with a grin, holding his cup and gesturing to her.

Savannah bounced at Zachary's praise, it made her feel really young again. Pleased with herself she took another small mouth of her glass. She exhaled deeply feeling refreshed. The battle had began, the first blow had been struck and was thoroughly parried. Now it was her turn to fire upon Zachary.

Her eyes narrowed and smile turned sweet as she told her riddle.

"If you drop me, I am sure to crack. But if you give me a smile, I will always smile back." She said as her words trailed off. Savannah gave Zachary a longing look.

Zachary had the sense that there was a literal section to the riddle and he thought about the number of things he knew that would crack noticeably if one dropped it, then narrowed it down to the things that were reflective.
"A mirror." He said confidently making sure he had already thought of his next riddle when he answered. The show had to go on.

If the answer were correct he would continue with his next riddle.
"The person who makes it, sells it. The person who buys it never uses it and the person who uses it doesn't know they are. What is it? He would ask.

She nodded in praise. The mirror was such a creation from the humans. Their ability to experiment with their surroundings is second to none. Everything she had done had already been accomplished by the humans. If it were not for them she would not have been who she was today.

The next riddle was quite something, what was funny she swore she had heard of this riddle before. However she could not put her finger on it and it frustrated her. Where and when did she hear it before! The riddle was cynical by nature.

Savannah couldn't find a clear answer, the more he searched the further she got away from the topic. She bellowed an agitated sigh. It would be unsportsmanlike to hold up their game, so she took a stab in the dark.

"A grave!" She forced out, knowing too well that is probably the wrong answer.

He smiled, actually taking the time to consider her answer. Even though it wasn't exactly the right one he thought about whether or not it fit all of the parameters of the riddle. The first and last parts matched but people often bought their own funeral plots and he was happy about having actually beaten a Kitsune in riddles for the first time.
"Almost, the correct answer is 'a coffin'. I think this means that you lose our wager." He wasn't sure how she was going to react. Would she argue? Would she absolutely refuse his first few attempts to call it in?

He started thinking about what he was going to have as his favor. He briefly considered having her go to a local hotel with him, but thought it would cheapen the reward to ask for something so trivial from someone so sophisticated, besides any number of bar goers would be easier and this one was immune to his animal attraction anyway.
"So how would you like to proceed?" He asked.

For a second she thought she had hit the mark, she watch with unwilling eyes. The hold on her glass was a little more tense than usual and rightly so. As the first word came out his mouth she knew that she got it wrong. Was he stringing her along to give her false hope? Either way she exhaled through her nose briskly.

She glanced away from him for a moment, need he rub the salt in the wound? She wondered whether he was enjoying this too much, it was her fault anyway for agreeing. So he did not deserve any of the unnecessary blame. "A shame no doubt, well played." She commented flatly, then half smiling.

Savannah raised her glass to him. "I believe you should look into a mirror and repeat the question. But out of context I guess I shouldn't let good wine go to waste, even if it's from my victorious rival." She chimed in. Her head nodded to Zachary, the wine glass returned to her lips to allow the liquid to coarse down her throat once more. This time the taste was bitter, probably because of her loss of the game.

"You have till the day you breathe no more to ask me of a favour." She announced and then murmured some more staring at the empty glass in her hand. "I wonder what sort of man Zachary has yet to become." Savannah tittered lightly to herself.

At her words he smiled, but she seemed to have misunderstood his reasons for confirming what had just happened.
"I apologize, I didn't mean to make it seem like I was gloating. The Kitsune I learned my love of riddles from always beat me, I was just surprised to have actually won a contest for once." He explained, somewhat elated. He had created such great memories on the island and was having fun now too.

"I'll keep the favor in mind one day, you'll know I'm cashing it in when I say the words 'do me a favor'." He said with a wink. With that he finished his long island iced tea and stood up from the bar stool.
"It was fun, but I should probably be going before the alcohol robs me of my good sense." He said, reaching for her hand to kiss it before turning to head out.
"Until next we meet mademoiselle." He added with a wave as he continued to walk.
