Scott grinned playfully at her comment, but continued with the other half of their conversation. "I'm an only child. Though, I'm sure my parents are going to have another kid to replace me. That would be just like them." He sneered. "Your power is fire? That's cool. Mine's....well, slightly less normal....to say the least." He sort of laughed.

Sensing she was looking for a better explanation, he continued. "You see, I can change into a beagle. As in, the dog. My parents were both German Shepards, so natuarally, they were disappointed when I turned out to be a much smaller, less powerful breed. That's where our troubles originate."

"Did you wish you weren't an only child? Or did you prefer it like that? I felt like i was an only child, even though i wasn't, and i hated it. i had no one to talk to..."

Ember's face lit up, and huge grin growing across her face from cheek to cheek. "A beagle? Oh my GOD, I LOVE BEAGLES!! They're so adorable!" She screamed, forgetting about the library rule of keeping it quiet. She immediately quieted down and ducked her head down, almost touhing the table and spoke in a hushed voice, "Just because beagles aren't as fierce as German Shepards, doens't mean they aren't as tough, that's descrimination. Haven't you seen the movie Cats & Dogs? Well, I'm sorry about the whole thing with your parents and all..."

Scott thought for a moment. "To be perfectly honest, I never thought about it. I suppose it wouldn't matter either way."

He grinned. "I love beagles too. And, yeah, I have seen the movie. I think moving out of my parents' home was the best thing for me and my self-esteem."

"Oh, well, just asking." Ember shrugged.

"The movie's really funny, isn't?" She asked. "Well good for you Scott. Good for you!" Ember said, reaching out and giving Scott a congradulatory pat on the hand.

Scott smiled. He was feeling kind of bold, so he decided to press his luck. "Listen, I know we just met and all, but I was wondering if you had a date for the Dance. I know, it's really short notice and you probably already have someone....you don't have to say yes..."

Ember blushed with embarassment. Scott was asking to go with her for the dance? How was she to answer? She tried ot speak, but the words couldn't find their way out. "I-I..." She paused, trying to find the words. "Well, Scott...I do have a date...." Ember smiled, connecting her hands with his. "But not for the dance. So, yeah, I'd love to go to the dance with you."

Scott smiled. He could not believe he'd just done that. "Rock On," was just about the only thing he could say in reponce. "If it's going to be a problem between you and your other date, though, it's okay if you don't want to go with me."

"No, it's fine..." Ember said assuring Scott that everything was alright. "He hasn't even asked me anyway. But we'd be going as friends though, right?" She asked, wanting to make sure that Scott did see too far into it, especially since they had just met eachother..

"Oh, yeah, it goes without saying," he reassured her. She was a nioce girl, but he knew it was way too soon to get into anything like that....especially since she had a boyfriend.
