==> Strings.

What day was it again?

The thought just suddenly dawned on Strings as she looked away from the cupcake on the display window. One which had captured her attention in the past 5 minutes. She realized she had probably scared off customers from that shop again. How rude. She only wanted to look at the glaze and icing. She liked sweets but it was hard to eat in public without scaring even more people. It was very upsetting.

Ah, but yes, what day was it? She tried to remember as she pulled up her scarf, covering the lower-half of her face. Strings had lost track of the days again and she wasn't sure if it was a Tuesday or if that wasn't until tomorrow. Or was that the other day before yesterday? Time was so confusing. Why was time so unsteady? It keeps changing so much.

She couldn't even tell what the weather felt like. Was it nice? Cold? Humid? Comfortable? She always just wore what she liked, but people kept staring. What was so odd about wearing a long-sleeved turtleneck sweater with a scarf? What if it was the sunglasses? But she came across people wearing sunglasses too. Maybe the medical mask? But why? It wasn't like she had a contagious disease. People still stared.

How rude.

The boy's eyes blinked as he walked along the sidewalk. Downtown. The Big City. Of all the places on the island that he had seen so far, the city seemed to have the most potential for finding a story. In that essence, he probably wouldn't even have to do any work! He expected something to just happen, and be lucky enough to be in the vicinity. That way, the story would be able to write itself! But if only it were that easy. For the most part, his aimless wandering had not yielded any results. I know these streets like the back of my hand now...and they have the same amount of spunk too. he thought.

The student continued his exploration in the city, until he stumbled upon what he believed to be his story. For some reason, there was a gathering of people. Without hesitation, the boy extended his right arm into the air in front of him and blinked once more. His perception of reality changed, and he began to see the world in numerical digits. In front of him was a series of numbers, '00001' and '00002'. Damn, which one was it again? The '00002' item briefly shifted to the outline of a camera, then returned to its series of numbers. He grabbed this item, then blinked yet again, returning to reality.

His intuition was correct, and he had successfully removed his camera from the pocket space. The boy quickly leveled the camera with his eye and prepared to take a snapshot of the people.

"Damn, Imma need their permission first..."

Xel walked towards the people so that he could ask for their permission to take their photos. The closer he became to them however, the easier it was to see what they were focusing their attention on. Everyone was staring at a person wearing a sweater, scarf, and sunglasses! And people thought I was the weird one...

"Hey, you! What's with the get up?" he asked as he approached the person. When he was within its personal space, he assumed that it was a girl judging by the height and hairstyle.

"Um...is that a mask? Aren't you hot with all dat on? Can I take yo' picture?!"

[[ooc: sorry this took so long haghdjs my broadband wasnt connecting]]

Strings curiously turned to her head to the side where she had heard a voice very near her proximity. Ah, someone was talking to him. She pondered for a moment his question. What was with the get-up? What was wrong with it? Maybe the sunglasses and mask was uncommon but she thought it looks normal. Then again, it seems like no one wore clothes as heavy as she had right now.

Maybe that was it, she nodded to herself.

"I don't really know what you're talking about." she said, in response to his question. "I'm perfectly comfortable with this if you're asking. The weather is irrelevant. Is it that warm to be wearing this?" she asked, her head tilting to the side curiously. She was speaking normally that no one could probably tell she wasn't speaking through a mouth.

"Why would you need a picture of someone normal when you have a school of magicians over there?" she continued, almost not leaving the boy to sneak in a reply to her previous question. She was aware of why she could be a spectacle though. She didn't have a face, that was a sight to behold. But she can't really promise him a good photo either.

The girl's words flowed into his ears, and immediately the word normal had struck a chord with him. It stirred up the memory of when his parents showed him his acceptance letter to Starlight Academy. If you are reading this, then you are a very special person. Unique, gifted, different. The first line of the letter had indicated that he was there because of his ability. As such, it seemed likely that every student had received the same letter of acceptance.

"Normal? On this island? Dats what makes yo' picture so valuable! Magicians are a dime a dozen, but normal? Dats a story of the century! Has anyone ever tol' you dat you talk funny?"

The boy raised his camera and began to focus it so that he could acquire a picture of the girl. She didn't exactly give him permission, but she didn't explicitly refuse it when he asked. He took a deep breath as he waited for the girl to make a facial expression, but the presence of the mask had made it entirely indiscernible. Click.

He examined the image that he had just taken. It was a strange sight to behold. The picture was unreadable. When the boy squinted, he could tell that the girl was in the picture, but for some reason she was blurred together with the surroundings. The picture looked similar to a printer that had ran out of ink.

"Dam, looks like its busted. Looks like I wont be getting yo' picture today after all. But hey, look, Im Xelvior. Call me Xel. Can I get yo' lunch or something? I'd like to be able to contact you when I get my camera fixed. What's yo' name?

"Talk funny?" Strings echoed. As far as she knows, she talked really normally. If there was anyone who talked weird, it was this person right here. "I really just cant feel the weather. It's not a joke." She wasn't paying enough attention but she only noticed the boy taking a photo of her when she heard the sound of the shutter. She didn't say say didn't she. What is so wrong about waiting to be given permission first.

She was about to say something about it but when she saw the confused expression on the boy's face, she immediately knew what was going on. 'Looks like it's busted.' he muttered. Well, if he hadn't rushed in to take a picture, she could have told him that he can't, as in literally impossible to take a photo of her. Wasted energy.

"It's not your camera. It's really just impossible to take any photos with me around." she said. "Kids around here call me Strings. I'd like to take you up on that offer but I haven't figured out how to eat actual food. And why do you even want to contact me." she added. She never understood people here. "You are weird."
