Nessie had decided to take an early-morning swim. She'd arrived at the beach wrapped in a blue cover-up over her white bikini, and a large bag of art supplies for capturing the sunrise. The water was cool, since the sun wasn't quite up yet, and a few small fish skittered away from her as she started to wade into the shallows. As she got further out, she let her glamour drop, the large lake-monster rising from the sea before ducking her head under the water and wandering deeper. Salt water wasn't her favorite, but the creatures that lived here in the ocean were fascinating and full of color. Nessie danced in the water for a while before heading back to the shallows and donning her glamour once again to appear human before she finally emerged from the sea.

The sun was coming up by now. Nessie trotted across the sand, her wet hair hanging straight and dark red down her back. She shook off some water and settled onto her beach towel, legs stretched in front of her while she pulled a small canvas into her lap and started to mix some paints together on a pallet while the sun's rays stretched across the ocean and onto the sand, warming her pale skin.

He'd never seen the ocean before, his family didn't have enough money for such trips, especially after his parents vanished. So, given the chance he'd decided to take a look, so he'd wandered the sand a bit, relieved it seemed mostly empty.

His nose turned up as he smelt the sea salt filled air, it was all new, the whole island. A new home, a new start. He was relieved for his brother, terrified for himself, he wasn't sure he knew how to live a normal life anymore.

As he rounded a large rock, he spotted someone, a woman. Red hair, she appeared to be painting. Pushing aside his social anxiety, he slowly approached her, his head tilted in curiosity.

Nessie worked quickly to capture the fading beauty of the sunrise before the sun got too high in the sky and took away the lovely purple and orange hues that sunrises usually came with. Her brush moved with rapid precision across the small canvas. She held a couple of different sized brushes in her other hand, switching between them to use different colors or styles as she saw fit.

A movement out of the corner of her eye distracted her as she was working on the finishing touches, gentle purple and pink strokes in small places to capture the last of the details. Nessie turned her head and regarded the black cat that was slowly pacing towards her. With a smile, she reached her slender fingers out and offered her hand to the cat to let it scent her. She tended to be a cat person; she'd had quite a few pet cats during her lifetime. They were quiet yet loyal companions.

He took a step back as she offered her hand. Edward trusted very few people, he had to rely only on himself to take care of him and his brother. Despite his hesitation, his nose twitched as he took in her scent, she wasn't human.

The cat tilted his head curiously at her and took a seat in the sand. He hadn't met any other non humans before they'd arrived on the island. His distrust was toward all sentient beings, even if the ones who'd harmed him were human.

"Uh...hello?" he finally said, breaking the silence. He'd been told that sentient animals and cat shifters were common here, but he still hesitated to talk as a cat at times.

He wasn't a very friendly cat, Nessie assumed he was a stray or something because of how hesitant he was to get close to her. She withdrew her hand after letting him scent her, wondering if it was hungry or something. She didn't really have anything that a cat would be interested in, just a few protein bars and a bottle of water that she'd brought with her in her bag in case she'd gotten hungry.

She blinked as he suddenly spoke to her. Okay...so not a normal cat. Nessie scrambled a little. Sketchpad, sketchpad... she dug in her bag for it, finding it and a pencil to write with. Once she'd found what she was looking for, she wrote Hello, hoping that this talking cat could also read.

Stepping back more, he focused and quickly shifted into his human form. Needless to say, he didn't look healthy, he was thin and sickly looking, he had spent some time in the Manta Carlos hospital.

He tilted his head and looked at the sketchbook she was speaking through. It was odd, but he didn't care. "Uh..hi..," he cleared his throat, trying to push through his nervousness.

His tail started to sway, and his eyes looked down at the sand, "I...I'm sorry," he finally said. "I shouldn't of interrupted your drawing," his purple eyes looked back to her, unsure of what she'll say.

Nessie looked on with curiosity as he shifted into a more human-like form to speak with her. Okay, so definitely not a normal cat. With as old as she was, though, it didn't really surprise her to see cats turn into people or people turn into animals or....pretty much anything magical or unusual at all. She'd seen most of it, nothing surprised her anymore on this island.

Seems nervous, she thought to herself. He was thin, too. She supposed that she could share her food with him now that he had a human form and could digest things properly. She offered him a protein bar, taking it from her bag and holding it out for him to take. With her other hand, she wrote It's okay, I was almost done anyways. She then held up the painting to show him what she'd been working on.

He tilted his head again, his big purple eyes looking at her sign and nodding. "I...I'm Edward," he introduced himself with a shy voice. Looking over at her painting, he smiled just a little, "it's beautiful."

The young cat-shifter took a step forward, the woman hadn't thrown anything at him, so it seemed like she didn't mind. "I...I just got to the island," he looked from Nessie, to her painting and back again curiously.

"Y-youre really good," he loved art, always had. Though he could never really make, though he could play music, the piano to be exact.

She flipped to a new page as he introduced himself and wrote Nessie in blocky lettering. She'd been experimenting with calligraphy lately, so her style of writing was constantly changing to whatever she felt like at the time. She smiled and nodded gratefully at his compliments on her artwork...she took pride in what she could do with a brush, or any kind of art-making utensil.

So he'd just gotten to the island? Nessie had been here quite a long time...she could hardly remember the first time she came here and settled into her new home, it seemed like such a distant memory now. She wondered how his transition was going, or how much he knew already about the world around him. Under her name she wrote Like it? and drew a little island with a palm tree to indicate what she was talking about. Did he like the island?

His smile brightened, and his tail dropped to sway calmly, "Nessie is nice name, its pretty." The young cat-shifter's purple eyes seemed to glow a bit, his friendliness coming out.

Taking another step, he shrugged a little, "yeah its nice...just...a lot of adjusting for me and my brother." His head tilted in curiosity and Nessie, she seemed to be mute.

"Your art is amazing," he didn't have any friends, his few friends from back home stopped talking to him because of the work he had to take up. "Must be talented," well his first real attempt at social interaction on the island was going well so far.

A thought crossed his mind, "we...I could..help us..." His face flushed for a second, "I'm a telepath...if you don't mind I could form a link."
