Russo's Trick or Treat

Even before the city notice, the Russos have always been big on trick or treat, both participating and giving out treats. There was never a shortage of little Russos. Their family was big, so marriages and births happened every half a decade. Vito himself had several children and little cousins out there trick or treating (along with his lovely fiance, who was older than he was, but couldn't resist the temptation of free things). It was a fun occasion for a lot of them. Even Vito participated in the Holiday mirth, trading his trademark pinstripes for a Dracula costume.

All branches of Russo's were participating, but he was at their original branch at the Pier. The restaurant was decorated with fake cobwebs, ghosts, and masks. Even the waiters were suitably spooky. Of course, not too spooky — this was a family restaurant after all, and just because it was Halloween, it didn't mean that they should start being barbarians.

There were several bowls of candy on the counter. As a special Russo's restaurant signature, trick or treaters get to enjoy a cup of free gelato if they wanted, too. Vito had a clipboard doing inventory one last time before the kids started swarming the place.

One of the first "children" to swarm the place was Hattie, the professional space plant pirate, herself. She came skipping into the building, looking the part of a cute little child.

The plant peered around, trying to see if anyone was watching before she began to shovel the candy from the bowls into her very full bucket of candy. Yes! Alllll the candy was hers. She would consume it in one go and fall deep into a sugar coma. Glorious.

Naturally, the wait staff at Russo's were an observant bunch. They were quick to inform Vito that a child not-child was taking all the candy. She looked like an alien, they told him, and seemed like she was packing (for those not into gangster lingo, that meant she had a gun, yo).

One of the waitresses walked up to Vito and informed him of the situation, and he his mouth flat lined. He didn't know how to react to this situation other than being unable to comprehend how goddamn stupid of an idea it was. Stealing candy from a completely open area was one thing, stealing from Vito Rosales was just incomprehensible.

"Thank you, Bianca. Take this." He handed her a clipboard and stormed out of the supply room, catching the little thief in the act. He crept up to her, quiet and deadly like a python in the grass, then snapped forward and took Hattie by the arm, lifting her entire weight up in one move. "You're not a child, are you?"

Hattie gasped, and her mouth popped open as she wiggled around. As a (seemingly) natural reaction, Hattie's skin became adhesive and took on that sweet smell.

"I need an adult! I need an adult! Bad touch! Bad touch! FIRE!" she took the whistle she had gotten from Felix and began blowing in it enthusiastically.

All at once, the plant went limp and let her tongue fall out the side of her mouth to play dead. It was a terrible act, mostly because she kept peeking an eye open to stare at him.

Alright, she was starting to cause a scene, and it looked like the customers were staring at them as this went on. Annoying. The little thief seemed to have done something to his hand, too. Vito grabbed her pot with his free hand and placed it on the counter. These were now confiscated. To the strong goes the spoils.

Seeing that she only tried to steal his candy, he'd let her off easy this time. Much worse fates happened to people than simple jail time when they fuck with Vito Rosales. He went over to the door and rubbed her against the wall to get her off of him. When she dropped, he opened the door and tried to kick her out. "If I see you around here again, I'll plant you six feet under and see if a tree grows."

Hattie made a sound like some kind of DYING ANIMAL when her candy was taken. "No! No! My nourishment!"

Hattie dropped to the floor but attached herself to his legs, crying and mewling. "No, no, good sir, kind sir, don't put me on the street. I beg of you!" Then, Hattie began kissing his shoes at the two. "I love you! Please don't do this to me! have a heart!"

Oh, these types.

Vito sighed the sigh of a man that was completely and utterly sick of horse shit. He didn't want to resort to too much force, but she was giving him no choice. He raised his leg with Hattie still attached on it, gesturing for Ardos to come near. "Throw her out."

"Yessir," he said, yanking Hattie away from Vito's leg to take her outside like a bad stray cat that had wandered into the restaurant.

As Hattie was peeled off Vito's leg (quite a sight, it was kind of hilarious really), she yowled and clawed to remain where she was. It was all for naught. The poor little houseplant was torn away hung limply in Ardos' arms.

Once outside, she began to sob and cry and wail, flailing about. She truly looked the part of a tantrum child. Was Hattie a child? Or an adult? Maybe she was just insane, which was likely the most accurate answer.

"H-H-H-He took my candy!" she wailed, pawing gently at Ardos' face. Her crying was not a cute crying. It was ugly tears, with red blotchy cheeks and an equally red nose. With snot and spit and all that.

Aw, hell. Ardos was a soft spot, and this... plant (?) looked very much like a child. Ardos looked around, frantic, distressed that people would see the crying child-plant. He put her down and knelt in front of her. He offered her a handkerchief.

"Don't cry," he said, voice distressed, but gentle. "Look... the boss-man just doesn't like people stealing from him. That's fine. Night's young. There's still lots of stores open. I can walk you to one, if you like."

Hattie sniffled a few more times, face still oddly colored. She watched Ardos as she took his handkerchief and blew her nose messily into it. "C-Can I have a piggyback ride to one of the stores?" she asked, making grabby hands at him.

Once aboard the Ardos train (plane? Car? Something piggyback like) Hattie whipped her space gun from her belt, hidden beneath her large leafy dress, and pressed the nose of it to his temple. "Good! Now walk back in there and get your boss to give me my candy back AND all his candy, and nobody gets hurt, got it bub?!"
