Running in place

Roldan was having to change up his schedule. Take morning shifts, after he got Iesha to school. Do all his shopping on his days off. And work out at the gym whenever he had time. This was one of those times. He was in his favorite workout shirt, both because of the reference and the irony of it.

Finishing up his rather mild weight lifting (he wasn't looking to get huge and ruin the one advantage he had over his brothers), he grabbed a drink of water and set up on one of the treadmills. Fishing in his pocket, he cursed a bit. He'd forgotten his headphones. Oh well. He could handle a single run without his podcasts.

Ailbhe walked towards a treadmill, a bag slung over her shoulder. Ailbhe had been to some the other gyms on the island, but since she was actually living somewhere now, she figured she’d go to a gym actually pretty close. Nothing too fancy, she figured. Although she wouldn’t admit it, she hadn’t been sticking to her usual workout as much as she used to. She planned to swim later in the day anyway. Just a run for now.

As she walked, she slipped a hairband out from her shorts pocket and tied her hair up. She’d opted for a more amusing tank top for her workout. She didn’t really pay much mind to other people around her. She just saw that there was a guy on the treadmill next to the one she had gone for. She dumped her bag down and hopped on, starting off with a light jog.

Roldan was ten minutes into his run when he hit the button on the treadmill to increase the speed. His legs shifted slightly, growing bulkier and becoming covered in scales to let him handle the new speed more easily. He needed to get his partial shifting up to snuff.

Someone stepped onto the treadmill next to him and he cast his eyes over to look at them. Oh. The ex-pirate. Ailbhe? Was it Ailbhe? Fuck it.

"Hey," he said, maintaining his pace.

Ailbhe had practically just started running, her hand digging into her pocket to get her phone out, when someone next to her spoke. It made her jump a little, but luckily she didn’t fall off the treadmill. It felt directed towards her. She recognised the voice. Oh no.

She looked up and over to the person next to her, only to see Roldan. Great, now she’ll probably murder her own legs by unconsciously trying to outrun a dragon. “Oh, hey.” She was not basically a superhuman, so she did sound a bit breathless as she spoke and slowed down a little.
