Under his clothes, he wears a triangular eye of providence amulet.
When Ruben takes on a human form, he has fair skin, blonde hair, blue eyes, and a prominent chin.
Personality Description: Ruben has an air of casual charisma about him. He generally comes off as cool-headed and confident, dominating almost every conversation he’s a part of. He’s a contrarian at heart, habitually challenging people with opinions that seem “mainstream” to him. To Ruben, every position is worth debating, and everyone has a right to free speech and a platform to exercise it. He detests political correctness, seeing it as an enemy to free expression.
Ruben’s sense of humor tends to be a bit edgy. He chastises people who take offense for ‘not being able to take a joke.’ He also likes internet memes. For fun, he's just as likely to play a popular video game or do something outside. He’s always open to new experiences out on the town, too – Manta Carlos has a lot of exciting things to do. He has a particular fascination with humans, specifically.
He has goals and reasons for being here that extend well beyond his schooling. He’s good at hiding them.
Species Abilities: As a reptilian, Ruben can shapeshift. This is limited to humanoid forms within 2 inches of his true height, and it is purely cosmetic; he cannot give himself other supernatural abilities by shapeshifting and his physiology remains the same. This also only affects his body; shapeshifting cannot change his clothing.
Like reptiles, reptilians can’t regulate their body heat the way humans do. Cold climates are difficult for them to tolerate or even survive in. on even a moderately cold day, Rubin can only be outside for a couple of hours before the rechargeable batteries on his heated clothes run out, after which he has a serious risk of suffering hypothermia.
Powers:
Eye of Providence Amulet / Psychic Invisibility: Bearing a symbol commonly associated with the illuminati, his amulet has magical power. When activated (by uttering a magic phrase), it emits a psychic field which encourages anyone around him to either ignore his presence or rationalize it as normal. The effect works regardless of distance and will even affect video recordings or photographs. This makes it relatively easy for him to sneak into places where he isn’t supposed to be and do things that he isn’t supposed to do.
Although this makes him much harder to notice or pay attention to, it doesn’t make him invisible. The primary limitation of this power is others’ ability to rationalize his presence– he is only able to get away with going unnoticed if it seems as though he has a reason to be there. If he walked into your bedroom or your bathroom stall, you would always notice him, amulet powers or no. In a relatively crowded area full of humans, it’s much easier for him to go ignored as long as he looks human unless there are a lot of people in costume running around to help them rationalize his appearance. With the proper attire he could walk into areas meant for employees or certain officials only. He also needs to not draw attention to himself – doing something loud or outrageous could jolt people into shaking off the amulet’s spell.
Several things are known to consistently beat this power, even when Ruben does everything right. First, some non-human minds are either partially or wholly resistant to the amulet’s psychic field. This is wildly inconsistent, even within families: one fae might be resistant to its effects while her sister would not be, for example. Nobody knows how or why some nonhumans can resist the amulet while others can’t. Secondly, a person who would normally be affected by the amulet can overcome it if they know about its power – such people must be making an active effort to fight against its influence and remaining vigilant to see past it.

Before going to SA, Ruben went to a special boarding school for reptilians. Not much is known about this school or why it exists or what’s taught there. He claims he didn’t fit in very well at that school, and that going to SA is the only way for him to finish his education without hiding his true form all the time.
