Sarah gave a chuckle. She was pretty sure that if it came down to it, she could put up a pretty good fight, but considering she was mostly just skin and bone and very little muscle, going up against a bunch of burly guys wouldn't make her much of a challenge.

She handed over the game as he took it from her and shifted into a comfortable spot to watch him play. At least he seemed to figure out what he was doing without much trouble. It meant he wasn't a complete idiot when it came to video games.

"Hmm," she considered his question deeply; she'd never really attempted a Pokemon speedrun before. "I mean, this is a game I like to play casually for the story and stuff, but I guess if I tried hard enough I could beat it in a couple of hours or so. Usually I like to spread my game out over the course of a couple of days to give myself enough to do. Then, when I'm done, I move on to the next one. Keeps my depression and anxiety at bay, gives me something to focus on."

She'd revealed a little more about herself than she'd meant to and bit her lip, going silent. He didn't need to know her problems.

"A couple of hours hm? I did hear that the games were pretty short, but it's the collection and RNG that makes the time tick away." Ater said, half-focused on the game. And as he said that, he got into another scramble with a bug trainer. It wasn't something that helped his point since those battles were scripted and he couldn't catch anything from them, not like encounters in tall grass.

But as the screen transitioned at the end of the battle, he looked back to Sarah, pulling himself away from the game for a moment to address something she said. "Yeah, I've heard keeping yourself occupied helps with that. But you know... Well, this is a bit early to suggest this since we've just met and all, but if you need an ear to hear you out--" he pointed to his own ears, making them twitch a bit as he offered a friendly chuckle, "--I got two big ones ready to do so.

She wasn't likely to take up the offer, but he wouldn't be able to say he didn't try. It wasn't like he had anything else to do.

Sarah looked at him and a small blush blossomed onto her cheeks. She nodded gratefully, "I appreciate that, thank you." It wasn't often that she opened up to someone so much on a first meeting, but Ater was...friendly, and relaxed, the kind of personality that put her at ease upon interaction.

"Most of the time it just makes me tired. There's a lot of stuff that goes on up there," she pointed to her temple. "I sleep a lot because of it...I've seen therapists about it but haven't gotten much out of my sessions. There's just a lot of...deep-rooted trauma in there that's...hard to...work around."

Talking about it made it worse, too. Sarah suddenly gasped as her throat started to close up on her and she shot for her bag, rifling through it for a bottle of pills and some water. "Sorry," she muttered, embarrassed as she rushed to take some of the pills to keep her panic attack at bay. "I have this disorder. I get panic attacks." She was breathing heavily now, starting to hyperventilate. Her hands shook as she put a couple of pills into her hand and swallowed them with her water.

A deep-rooted trauma, she says? It got the kitsune to wonder what it was she had been through. He had not an inkling, nor the guts to ask right out in such a sensitive time, but he knew she was either making a big deal about something, or it was definitely a big deal, and when people spoke the way she did, with deep sadness with a lot of negativity weighing down her spirit, he knew it couldn't be the former.

The two sides of him wanted to know. One, so he could try and help her work through it, and the other, in order to see how that can be used, perhaps twisted to work for a long-term plan.

Ater was startled when she suddenly grasped her throat, and for a moment, he thought she was trying to act out what that trauma was, but this quickly proved to be wrong as she went for her bag and started digging through it. She told him about her condition with panic attacks, and he halting nodded.

"AA-ah, I see... Sorry, that caught me off-guard. Can I get you anything? Should I take you to the infirmary? Shoot, I don't know what to do in this situation." The last part was supposed to be an inner thought, but it escaped him.

Sarah shook her head quickly, "Just give me a minute. Stay calm. Everything's fine." She was half talking to herself in the last couple of statements. It took a long minute or two for her breathing to regulate again, and she relaxed, her pupils dilating a bit from the effects of the drugs that were now in her system, calming her down.

"Sorry about that," she repeated her apology once more now that she was out of her panicked state. "I'm okay now." She nodded. She was okay. Everything was okay.

"Jeez, that's embarrassing," she laughed a little, the medication making her relax even more. "I'm really sorry. They're probably just as frightening to watch as they are to experience."

Was there a word to describe this exact situation? Where the one who was having a panic attack was the one telling the other guy to calm down? Maybe, maybe not, but it got Ater to breathe and just observe. She might just be saying that, but he couldn't be sure. If things got worse, he'd have bolted her out of there straight to the nurse, despite what she said.

She apologized and said that she was feeling fine again, which he doubted a bit out of worry. He finally got his nerves in check when she laughed and mentioned how it might have been just as terrifying to witness the attack as it was to experience it. With a sigh as he leaned back, he said, "Woman, you have no idea. I was ready to pick you up and run you all the way to the nurse."

He looked at her for any signs that she was just hiding her panic attack. "So, you're really fine right now, right? Not just playing coy?"

Sarah chuckled, her shoulders shaking a bit with her laughter. "I'm good, I promise. Maybe a little on the tired side, but other than that, I'm completely fine. The docs gave me good drugs for these kinds of situations." She held up her prescription bottle and shook it once before returning it to her bag.

"That one wasn't even bad," she leaned back against the wall and stared up at the ceiling, shrugging. "Usually they're much worse. Sometimes they make me unable to move and I can't get to my meds. Those ones are the worst because I just have to wait it out while I feel like I'm freaking dying."

"Sorry, probably not the best thing to talk about," she smiled and rolled her head to the side to look at Ater. "So uh, how are you? Or something."

...Or something? She was terrible at changing subjects.

Hip-hip-hooray for drugs then? She seemed fine, but Ater elected not to let his guard down. Otherwise he'd start panicking if she ever starts going like that again, even just slightly. She just took everything is stride though. At least it seemed like it to him, which gave him more confidence that she knew what she was talking about.

Then he heard that things could get much worse. And that attack wasn't that bad according to her. Now that just made Ater want to keep an eye on her in case those happened. He couldn't imagine what it would feel like to be in that position, feeling like death has come for you and all you could do is tense up.

"How am I? A bit spooked, but otherwise doing fine." He wanted to say something else he was concerned with, but decided not to bring the topic back to that area. "So what class are you in?"
