Room #613

Hitome nudged the door open with her toe. Six-thirteen was her lucky number, and she couldn't believe no one else had taken it yet. The room was perfect, at least in her eyes. The corner of the building overlooking the forest and a bit of the lawns was about as close to perfect as a nature lover could get, as far as she could tell.

The room itself had two beds, two nightstands, and two desks. Obviously, she'd probably end up with a roommate. She shruged. All she hoped was that it was a girl she could like.

The walls were stark white, but she had the remedy for that, at least on her side of the room. She dropped her duffle onto the bed on the far wall, closer to the window, and swung her backpack onto the bed as well. Opening it, she pulled out a thick folder and a roll of masking tape. With a grin, she wielded her tape like an editor's red pen, and pitilessly slammed up poster after poster, picture after picture.

Moments later, she stepped back, and with a satisfied grin, nodded happily. 'Perfect,' she thought, and ran a hand through her hair to brush back the strands that escaped her purple-streaked ponytail.

Ember stumbled into the room, almost tripping over her own luggage. "Phew, that was a close one!" She said to herself. The door had already been opened, so Ember figured that someone else had already settled in.

She looked around the room, the walls were completely white, one of Ember's least favorite colors, so she'd end up changing that problem immediately. Hmm, nice view.. She thought, glancing out the window.

Ember then notcied the other girl, whowas busy putting up several posters and pictures with masking tape. She wondered how she hadn't seen ehr when she first got in but she ignored that part and said, "Hey, what's up?"

Startled, but not revealling her reaction, Hitome turned around at the sound of another girl's voice. "Hey! I'm Hitome. You new too?"

Without prompting from the other girl, she grabbed one of the pieces of luggage that the new girl seemed to be struggling with, dragging it over to the bed. "Where do you want this?"

She glanced to the stark white walls above the other half of the room and made a pinched face. "We've got to fix this lack of color. Do you have posters or anything? Artwork? Paint? I'm personally in favor of anything with color. Except pink." She laughed a bit.

Ember dropped her bags and went to go and greet Hitome. "Hey, I'm Ember. Ember Mars. Yeah, I'm new," She said with a welcoming smile.

Hitome stopped what she was doing and helped Ember with her bags. "You can just leave it by the bed, I'll get them later, but thanks." Embebr slide her backpack off of her shoulders as tossed it onto her new bed.

Ember had laid her head down on her pillow, exhausted. She welcomed the comfort on her back from lugging around her backpack all day. She looked at Hitome, who had made a face while looking at the wall, and mentioned the fact the they should change the color of the walls. "Oh, god, i have thousands of posters, pictures, cut outs ni don't even want to begin to tell you." Ember laughed. It was true, she had two binders filled with magazine articles and cut outs form her favorite bands, movies, etc. Hitome told her that she'd thought about changing the walls to anything with color that wasn't pink. Pink. "You hate the color Pink?" This girl is awsome! She thought. "I depsise the color! Finally. I was hoping you wouldn't be one of those girly-girls obsessed wiht the color Pink. So, what colors are you in favor of?"

Hitome laughed. "Yeah, I'm as far from a girly-girl as humanly possible. I prefer mountain climbing to 'long walks on the beach', if you know what I mean. Not that I have anything against the ocean." She chuckled a bit.

"I love the color purple, as you can probably tell from my hair and my contacts." She gave Ember a violet wink. "And I'd love to paint more shapes and colors onto the walls, if your amiable. I mean, I'm not the greatest artist in the world, but I'd love to try and make the room fun. Unless you just want to do a background color and leave the posters and stuff as a the decorations. Whichever you want, I'm cool with."

The tomboy-ish girl flopped onto her own bed, deftly avoiding her backpack, suitcase, and the leftover magazine cutouts and tape. "So, what do you like to do?"

"I love mountain climbing, and hiking through the forest, though i always have to be careful not to burn it all down.." Ember gave a light laugh. "I love the ocean, but I can't really go in, unless i know i'm perfectly safe."

Hitome told Ember that her favorite color was purple, which she figured was by her hair and eyes. "Your eyes are so cool! Mine are a mix," Ember said pointing a finger at her multi-colored eyes of red, orange and yellow. "And shockingly, it's my real eye color. Weird, right?" Well lets see...You like purple, and suggest squares around the room, i like black and a few designs, how about we mix? black walls with purple squares, or the other way around. What do you think?" Ember asked. Ember didn't care hows they colored the room, since she liked a bit of funk in her style.

Hmm, what did Ember like to do? "Well, i do love torching things...but for fun, i love watching movies and partying. What about you?"

With a grin, Hitome replied, "Well, I didn't really mean literally squares, just designs and stuff. Like...a mural or something on one of the walls? Of course, I'm not really much of an artist. Or do you want to write song lyrics or something on the walls? I think that'd be fun."

At Ember's comment about burning down the forest, Hitome laughed. "Yes, well, I have problems with going into water as well. I have to maintain absolutely perfect control over my powers in the water, or I'll electrocute everyone. I don't have as much of a problem in the forest, unless it's dry and I call a thunderstorm. But that's really hard to do, and I'd have to be pretty mad to call enough electricity to set the forest aflame."

She gestured to her eyes. "Ah, these aren't natural. That's really cool, though! I wish I had cooler eyes. Mine are just boring old brown under these contacts. At least the contacts aren't that expensive."

"Back to the wall issue, though. If you can't draw, either, or don't want lyrics or poetry, we could totally do a checkerboard thing, or something. I'm cool with pretty much anything, as long as we don't have to keep staring at this boring white for much longer."

"Oh, sorry..." ember said with an embarassed smile, her cheeks reddening. "Why don't we do this, split the room completely one side purple, the other black, and where both meet, in white we could write the lyrics of a song. But they've got to be like awsome, deep lyrics, you know? What do you think?" Back at home, Ember had one wall covered with posters, another with atricles and cutouts, the other with a giant painting she did and the final one black wich was where she kept her desk and computer, with school necessities, etc.

"Yes, well, I have problems with going into water as well. I have to maintain absolutely perfect control over my powers in the water, or I'll electrocute everyone."

"You have the power of electricity? Awsome. What can you do?" Ember didn't really think you could do so much with electricity except for shock people, but she didn't know, maybe there's mor ethings a person could do.

"I don't have as much of a problem in the forest, unless it's dry and I call a thunderstorm. But that's really hard to do, and I'd have to be pretty mad to call enough electricity to set the forest aflame."

Ember shrugged. "Yeah, well, for me, it's one light on a branch and POOF next thing you know, the entire forest is aflame. Though it is harder when the leaves and branches are wet...obviously.."

"I'm actually an artisit, sort of. See, my dad was a huge artisit and he had his own gallery and everything, and some of his talent rubbed off on me," Ember said with a big smile. But, i think the lyrics thing is really cool. I completely agree, do they seel paint here? I swear i'd run to the store right now and by loads of paint." Ember laughed.

Hitome grinned, glad the other girl seemed to agree. "Oh, that's an awesome idea. Do you have any lyric ideas? I sort of like punk, rock, and a bit of emo. Some of the lyrics are just so deep, you know? And then I can do whatever I want with the purple parts, and you can do whatever you want on top of the black."

"Oh, um," Hitome said sheepishly, "Well, my powers really don't drain a lot of my energy, so I can keep going and going. And if I'm just focusing on one person or thing, and they conduct electricity well, like a person, a few hundred volts can be extremely painful. I can also use my electricity kind of like a magnet. You know, magnetic fields? I can manipulate electrical fields. It's a surprisingly broad subject."

Hitome, excited at the prospect of an artist, began bouncing on the bed a bit. "You're an artist?? That's awesome! I always wished I could draw or paint, but the closest I've ever come is with prose." She blushed a bit. "Well, I have to express myself somehow."

"Oh my God, I love that kind of music too!!" Ember exclaimed. What a coincidence that they both wee into the same music. "I really like the lyrics to the song "Breathe No More" by Evanescence, have you heard the song? It's really good. That's a good idea, our room could be one big art project." Ember laughed.

"Oh, that's really cool. I can go on for a long time too, especially when I have a really strong emotion. How cool, magnetism...hehehe. That'd be very useful in jail...not that i've been to jail or anything," She gave a nervous laugh. The only time she was in jail was for 2 hours, and that was because she caught lighting part of her old school on fire. No one had gotten injured, but they still brought her to the big house for a couple of hours until her dad bailed her out.

Ember blushed at Hitome's excitement of her being an artist. "Yea, i've been able to draw ever since I could write. I remember my first drawing wasa mermaid...haha, pathetic. Well at least you can express yourself, which is better than nothing, right?"
